Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife - Chapter 281
Chapter 281: Why doesn’t she open her eyes?
Chapter 281: Why doesn’t she open her eyes?
The two fell into deafening stillness.
While Jonathan maintained his composure and showed no signs of anxiety, Kaden’s cool began to fade.
He was outraged by the person in front of him, and he wasn’t sure whether he should lower his guard and comprehend him.
But after seeing his sister, he realized there was more to it and this man had to answer everything.
As a young lad, Kaden had always adored Jonathan.
He was his older brother, but all changed when he took away his sister.
He was also alleged to have slain his parents since they refused to accept his love for his sister.
But he knew it wasn’t entirely accurate.
If it was, then wouldn’t have done charity under his parents name.
He wouldn’t have carried his surname.
He wouldn’t have cut ties with his brother.
There was so much about his departure that didn’t make sense.
It was all the details he heard from his parents; however, as he grew up, he got accustomed to believe it but not entirely after he learned Jedrick’s true color.
“Why did you lie?
Who was the one behind the attack?
Why all these years forbade a daughter to live in a lie that her mother was no more?
From whom you were protecting her?” Kaden’s heart was filled with terrible wrath.
He wanted to know why and what made Jonathan hide such a major secret.
Why would he keep them in the dark?
Why!…
“Why don’t you ask your father instead?” Jonathan’s soothing voice extinguished the fire in his heart, leaving his lips ajar.
“What do you mean?” He snapped, still unable to understand the despair behind his seething gaze.
“You should ask Blake Willow why everything happened.
Jonathan concluded, “And if that man comes clean, come talk to me.” Kaden’s emotions were conflicted.
He couldn’t understand his thoughts about Jonathan’s assertion.
If he knew why those eyes were filled with utter contempt, he could finally put an end to all of his problems.
They kept looking at each other, each with a distinct emotion in their eyes.
Their tight stare was interrupted by a phone call.

Kaden looked away and responded.
“Are you here?” he asked, prompting Jonathan to frown.
Jonathan was intrigued by Kaden’s calm demeanor as he ended the call.
“Who is coming?” Jonathan enquired without delay.
“Your daughter,” he added, taking Jonathan entirely by surprise.
“Eveline!
What’s she doing here?” Jonathan snapped, but instead of reacting to his enraged remark, Kaden moved towards the door, opened it, and there she was.
Eveline…
Her gaze shifted from Kaden to Jonathan, and she felt a sensation of hatred.
“Where is she?” Her comments made Jonathan choke, and it soon hit him.
They have communicated with each other, but how?
However, he was unable to ask a question since her coldness made him feel restrained.
This was the first time Eveline had ignored him, but he couldn’t blame her because it had always been his fault.
“Come with me,” Kaden said, as they proceeded to another room.
Jonathan remained rooted in his location, but he soon understood Eveline had not come alone but was accompanied by Gabriel.
They exchanged a quick look before he followed the two into the room.
Kaden unlocked the door and instructed Eveline to walk first.
When she forced his gesture, her gaze fell on the figure lying in the bed.
Her words stopped, and her heart began to rush.
Her palms were chilly, and her eyes blinked as she saw her mother in front of her.
Despite the passage of time, she was unable to forget her mother.
She was right in front of her, flesh and breath.
But why was she asleep?
Panic rose in her heart, and she dashed to her bed.
“Mom, wake up,” she pleaded, dropping to her knees next to her bed and grasping her hand.
“Uncle Kaden, what’s wrong with her?
Why doesn’t she open her eyes?” When Eveline observed her mother being buried, her thoughts returned to memories from her past.
She had wept her heart out not to have her mother taken away.
But nobody listened to her.
The identical picture began to play before her eyes, and the more Erna kept silent, the deeper her heart sank.
Gabriel, too, was astonished to find Erna alive and stayed glued to the ground, but Eveline’s urgent appeal for her mother shook him free.
His heart broke at the sight of her relentless sobs, and he couldn’t help but hurry to her side.
“Gabriel, what is wrong with her?
Why isn’t she talking to you?
Wake her up,” she cried, clutching his collar anxiously.
Eveline was afraid she was late and her mother was leaving her again.
She was desperate to see her open her eyes and hear her talk, but the longer she remained asleep, the more terrified she became.
As if her cries became more frantic and reached Erna’s ears, her sleeping mind gradually woke her up from her slumber, and she gently opened her eyes.
“Eve” Eveline stopped crying and looked at her mother with red eyes, as if everything had stopped.
A sense of astonishment washed over her, and her lips trembled at the sight of her blinking eyes.
‘She was awake,’ her subconscious murmured, and Eveline released go of Gabriel and rushed towards Erna, falling into her arms like a small child seeking solace in her mother’s arms.
The only safe spot when she felt so afraid.
Despite her muddled thoughts, Erna brought Eveline into her arms, her quivering hands stroking her back.
“Do not cry.
Mom is here with you.” Eveline didn’t know her sobbing had transformed into silent sobs as she continued to hug her mother, not letting go for a second.
She fears that if she makes the wrong move, her mother will be gone forever.
Kaden patted Gabriel, suggesting they be alone, and then walked out of the room.
**** Outside, Jonathan was still standing in the same spot, but his gaze was drawn to the door, which soon opened and Gabriel and Kaden emerged.
He heard his daughter scream, and every word she said broke his heart into a million pieces.
He realizes what he did was terrible, but it was all for her.
Kaden noticed Jonathan’s regretful expression and touched his shoulder before leaving the room.
Since he wasn’t going to tell him anything, he decided to confront his father instead.
There was a lot for them to learn, and if his father was responsible for everything, he deserved an explanation.
**** Back inside the room, Eveline finally calmed down, but she refused to let her mother go.
She hugged her as if her life depended on it, and isn’t that true?
She never expected to meet her mother so soon after finding out she was still alive.
There were so many questions running through her thoughts, but she pushed them aside for the time being.
All she wanted to do was be present in the moment and remember that her mother was with her and would not be going anytime soon.
Erna, sensing Eveline’s quiet, caressed her face and murmured, “Won’t you fight with your mom?” Eveline shook her head, burying her face in Erna’s chest.
“I won’t,” she replied.
But you should.
We lied to you, and you have every right to fight with us.” Eveline cautiously raised her head to peer into Erna’s eyes.
Yes, she had been carrying a tinge of anger in her heart and needed to confront them, but now when she meets her mother, she realizes that even the little ounce of anger she felt for them has vanished.
She adores her parents and would never despise them for their actions.
She had always assumed that her father had reasons for remaining silent about the events in their lives.
Even today, she believes it.
Her sole query was: why?
Why did he do it, and what motivated him?
“What is the point in fighting when I know you did it to protect me?” Erna’s pupils widened slightly as she remembered Jonathan telling her about her daughter being one of the intelligent ones who wouldn’t be unhappy with them once she realized the cause for their actions.
“So you did read the letter I gave you,” Erna murmured, watching Eveline nod in answer.
“I did, but you know what, mom, your lie was too easy to catch.” Eveline’s words caused Erna to pinch her lips.
“Maybe my daughter is way too smart to understand everything,” she told me.
Erna might be away from her, but she remembered everything Jonathan told her about their kid.
Her subconscious would listen to all of the stories, instilling the courage she needed to survive.
She was for her daughter, and giving up would simply mean she wouldn’t see her again.
“But I guess, now that you know about my existence, then you should also know why we did it.” Erna’s countenance became solemn, yet her eyes were filled with regret, and regardless of what Eveline thought, they were still at fault.
