Chapter 30: Eveline’s disappointment
When morning arrived, Eveline was on schedule. She dressed quickly and went downstairs to have breakfast with Jonathan.
“Good morning, princess,” Jonathan said, as he smiled at his daughter.
Eveline sat down in the chair and ate her breakfast rapidly.
“Take it slow, sweetheart. Do you wish to choke on the food? It is not that you are late,” Jonathan remarked, observing Eveline’s hasty action as she stuffed bread into her mouth.
After realizing what she was doing, Eveline smiled impishly and slowed down. She did not want to be late, nor did she want to find herself compelled to accompany anyone like the other day.
As the thought of their drive crossed her mind,
Eveline finished her breakfast quickly and kissed her father on the cheek before heading out of the house.
She had notified Alex in advance of her intention to meet him personally, not after the classes but before they started. Because she arrived at the college a little early, she found that there were not many students there.
After getting out of the car, Eveline decided to go in the direction of the college playground, where she found Alex already waiting for her.
The quiet guy, who you would usually find by himself in the classroom corner, taking pleasure in his solitude, grinned at her.
His curly hair was propped up on his forehead, and a small, round object shifted against the curve of his nose as he made his way towards her.
Eveline recalled their conversation from a workshop where he had paired with her. His meek personality restricted him from expressing his thoughts and that somehow led him to perform poorly, followed by the scolding of the professor.
But all of that occurred a very long time ago—possibly during their first year of college. Even though they did not talk much, Eveline would always smile at him when they saw each other.
Upon discovering that Alex was the one who had posted those images, she was shocked and felt compelled to confront him immediately. However, despite receiving her private text, he declined to acknowledge her.
Eveline composed her expression and smiled weakly before standing in front of him.
“Did anyone see you coming here?” Eveline asked, indicating to Gabriel’s fan girls who were ready to slaughter her image in one go.
“No, I was very careful,” Alex answered.
For whatever reason, Alex was unable to take his eyes off Eveline and remained fixed on her for an indeterminate amount of time. He thought she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen, and because of this, he wanted to devour her in an attempt to get her to think of no one else but him.
Conversely, Eveline found Alex’s constant staring at her to be a little awkward. That was not how she had ever looked, but it did not feel good either.
“I should just finish my work quickly and get out,” Eveline told herself.
Disregarding all other possibilities, Eveline turned to face Alex and asked, “Why did you upload those photos and why would you lie that you were not the one to take them?”
Eveline recalled Gabriel’s claim that Alex was not the photographer of those pictures but simply a medium to post them. However, it didn’t rest well with Eveline the purpose behind leaking them.
Alex sensed the displeasure in Eveline’s tone and lowered his gaze. He did not think Eveline would look into it more after he uploaded those pictures, but Tiffany’s assurances turned out to be false, and he could now tell she detested him for everything he had done.
“I apologize for anything I may have done, but I did not take those pictures. “I just posted it, but someone from an unknown ID sent them to me.” Alex apologized incoherently to Eveline, avoiding direct eye contact.
He told Gabriel the same things, convincing him of his lies, but Alex thought it was a little odd that he said the same thing to Eveline.
“Why did you post it after receiving it from an unknown sender? Aren’t you thoughtful enough to think what would happen to me after everyone saw those pictures. I did not anticipate you acting in this manner, Alex.” Eveline expressed her disappointment in him by saying, “I thought we were friends.”
Though Eveline had been taken advantage of and betrayed before, she was blind to the fact that she could never fully trust anyone. But Alex was the last person she should have been suspicious of.
Alex knew that by listening to Tiffany, he had made a grave error because Eveline had become enraged with him at first glance.
“You are aware that the dean will suspend you if I bring up your behavior with him,” Eveline said, and this time Alex gaped at her in shock.

“Eveline, please do not do that.” With a look of dismay on his face, Alex begged, “I can not risk my career by getting rusticated.” He couldn’t risk getting thrown out of the college and not seeing Eveline at all.
‘I do not mind begging her if that is the only option.’
Eveline scowled, yet she experienced confusion upon hearing his entreaties. She could only detect a hint of sympathy from him because these were the only words she had heard him say to her.
“I will spare you, but you have to give me the ID of the person who sent those photos,” sighed Eveline as she turned to face him.
Alex looked at Eveline in shock, and his face went ghostly white. Despite his fear, Eveline persisted in reaching him, leaving him with no other option than to give her the ID.
“I will give you the ID, but you need to swear to me that this will not go to the dean,” Alex said with the hope of being assured by Eveline.
“Don’t worry, as long as you don’t repeat the same mistake, your secret will stay with me,” Eveline assured before Alex gave her the ID.
Eveline scowled as she peered into her phone, and then a charming smile formed at the corner of her lips.
“Friends” Eveline snapped out of her trance when Alex suddenly extended his hand before her, causing her to stare back at him with confusion.
Eveline understood that Alex was not totally to blame, but he ought to have reconsidered before posting the pictures online or just told her.
“I forgive you now, but not the next time.” Saying that Eveline held out her hand for the handshake.
“Eveline Miller, what are you doing here?” She snapped her head to the side when she heard a familiar voice, only to see Gabriel standing apart from them.
