Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife - Chapter 306
Chapter 306: I felt useless Chapter 306: I felt useless Gabriel then drove to Miller Mansion to pick up Eveline before they proceeded to head to Kaden’s.
Eveline was so dejected after attending Gabriel’s call in the morning that she refused to eat breakfast and instead waited for him.
And here he wasn’t even looking at her, despite the fact that all she did was stare at him expectantly.
“Do you need anything, Eveline?” Gabriel inquired, seeing her constant stare at him.
He was scrolling something on his phone, but his entire focus was on the girl seated next to him.
He knew she wanted to talk and glance her way, but she was thinking about how she would raise her voice.
So he acted on her behalf instead.
Eveline’s eyes widened as he put his phone back in his pocket and turned to face her instead.
She gulped, peering into his deep eyes, which were devoid of any emotion for her.
She wasn’t used to it, and his apathy caused her heart to contract.
Without saying anything, she remained looking at him, taking in the blank expression on his face and shaking her head.
She had no idea why she couldn’t speak.
Maybe she realized she was wrong and his fury was justifiable, but how long would she keep silent?
She would never let him continue to treat her as if she did not exist.
So she let go of her hesitation and sat on his lap.
Gabriel was taken aback by her boldness, but he quickly concealed his feelings and asked her to return to her place.
“We’re in the car, Eveline.
Get back to your seat,” he commanded coldly, making Eveline bite her lips.
“Not unless you stop calling me that,” Eveline refused to carry on like this.
If he refuses to speak, she will force him to do so.
Gabriel furrowed his brow in inquiry.
“What should I stop calling you?” he inquired, confused of what he had said, which she took offense to.
“Eveline,” she spat, and his look was grim.
“Isn’t that your name?
Then why shouldn’t I call you by the name your parents gave you?” Gabriel disregarded the change in her demeanor and stared out the window.
He was finished making her understand her error.
If she wouldn’t listen, he’d quit telling her anything.
Maybe that’s how things have to be.
Eveline’s brow furrowed at his rudeness, and she cupped his face, forcing him to look at her.
“I don’t want you to call me that,” she said, her dissatisfaction pouring from every word she spoke.

Eveline realized what she did was wrong, but after whatever happened between them, Gabriel immediately drew a line between them, which was both infuriating and sad.
‘How can he suddenly treat her as if she does not exist?’ “Then I don’t know what to call you because the one I used to call has started treating me like a worthless person whom she can never really rely on nor does his feeling or concern matter to her.” Gabriel let go of her hands and turned away.
His emotions were at their peak, and he spewed forth anything that came to mind.
Gabriel has always tried to understand her and ignored every mistake she makes, hoping that one day she will realize that everything he asks for is for the betterment of them.
Despite the fact that she is well aware that his life is entirely dependent on her presence, she disregards his emotions.
Eveline’s eyes welled with tears.
She was saddened by every word he spoke, since she knew it was correct.
She was not going to justify, but she would not allow him to feel bad about himself.
When she stated she loved him, it was neither a falsehood nor an just acknowledgment of his feelings for her.
She meant everything, but some things in her life were beyond her control.
However, this does not imply that she will disregard anything he says.
Eveline looked down and blinked away her tears, which threatened to fall.
“I’m sorry for making you feel that way, but I love you, and nothing can change that,” she whispered as she carefully lowered herself off his lap and returned to her seat.
Gabriel did not glance at her and remained silent during the trip till they arrived at their destination.
*** [Inside] Kaden saw the couple’s lack of engagement but didn’t say anything, instead opting for taking them to the cell where Marcon was being held captive.
Eveline came to a halt when a piercing cry sounded through the cell’s closed door.
“Don’t worry, we need to demonstrate hospitality to every offender we bring into our cell.
Luke is in charge of it, and believe me, he’s really good at making them feel at home.” Kaden chuckled, glancing at the two; one forced a smile on her face, while the other remained stoic until he decided to open the door and walk inside.
Another scream resonated across the room, and Eveline froze, grasping Gabriel’s arm in panic.
They turned their heads to see her hand gripping Gabriel’s, and she quickly pulled back.
“Sorry,” she whispered, ready to take a step back, but Gabriel grabbed her hand and entwined their fingers into a strong knot.
A surge of relaxation swept through her body, and a slight grin appeared on her lips.
But her brow furrowed as her eyes were drawn to something.
‘How did he get those bruises on his knuckles?’ Eveline wondered, glancing at the redness.
She turned up to see Gabriel watching ahead.
“That’s enough, Luke.
Let’s give him a break.” Kaden spoke, and Luke immediately came to a halt.
Taking a step back, he let Kaden go ahead.
Marco was pummeled to a pulp.
His nose, lips, and eyes were bleeding.
But he never felt sorry for him.
The majority of Marco’s bruise came from Gabriel, while the rest was Luke’s work of art.
He undoubtedly suffered fractured face bones.
Marco gulped for breath.
His head sank low, and his chest heaves dramatically.
He had no idea where he was, but when his gaze fell on Eveline, he growled.
“You bitch!
How dare you trick me?” Despite being beaten black and blue, he had the courage to express his anger with Eveline, which enraged the other men in the room.
Pak~ Kaden delivered a punch straight on his face, breaking his nose and making him scream for his mother.
“Ma….” “You’re not allowed to call my niece that.
Say more words against her, and I will make sure you won’t be able to speak.” Kaden had an angelic visage, but he was a demon inside, who enjoyed peeling the flesh of his criminals and making them regret coming into existence.
Marco coughed up blood, and the three quickly settled into their separate reclining seats.
“Tell me everything you know about Jedrick.
How large is his organization, and what else has he specialized in besides human trafficking and drugs?” Kaden inquired.
Marco chuckled and stared him directly in the eyes.
“What are you talking about?
I’m not sure who Jedrick is.” Kaden furrowed his brow in frustration and slapped him across the face.
“The one you’re working for,” he said, hoping a slap would get his mind back on track.
“I-I don’t know what you are talking about.” He repeated the words again, and this time his vision dimmed.
He was going to pass out after all the beating he had received, and he was unconscious in no time, leaving them all stranded because they hadn’t expected him to pass out yet.
“Damn!” Kaden groaned, running his finger through his hair.
Eveline and Gabriel sighed as they gazed at Marco.
“He is a hard nut to crack,” Eveline said, realizing Marco wasn’t going to be intimidated by their abuse.
“He won’t say anything unless we convince him that he is useless,” she added, her gaze sweeping across the man who refused to speak.
Kaden, on the other hand, recognized how Jedrick had trained his men.
No one was willing to open their mouth unless they were directly targeted.
Back then, he was able to tame Roger because he had a vulnerability, which was his family, but Marco had none, so how were they meant to force him to spill everything?
“I think we should wait and if he still refuses to speak, then we will have to continue torturing him unless he doesn’t open his mouth,” according to Kaden.
“But do not let him die.
“You promise to hand him over to me once you finish the interrogation,” Gabriel said, sharing a deep gaze with Kaden, who nodded in response.
Eveline glanced at them in confusion, wondering what they were talking about, but then something struck her in the head and she gaped.
“How did you get those bruise on your knuckles?” She raised their intertwined hands in the air, squinting as she scrutinized them to ensure they were freshly established, before darting her gaze to Gabriel.
“Ahem, you don’t need to know,” he responded casually, as if her remarks didn’t hurt him at all.
Eveline might have kept it to herself unless Gabriel was ready to chat, but this rudeness went beyond her tolerance level.
“Just because we’re not on good terms doesn’t give you the right to cut me out of your life,” Eveline snarled as her last ounce of patience ran out.
She tried to understand and give him space. She had let him treat her as if she were invisible for a few hours, but that was enough.
Gabriel, on the other hand, gave a cynical laugh.
“Look who’s saying this.
Haven’t you always shut me out whenever a crisis arises?
Then why can’t you accept the reality that I am doing the same?
You keep doing your work your way; I’ll do mine.” Kaden, sensing the tension in the room becoming too much to bear, hastily jumped between the couple and prevented them from having a word war within the jail.
“I recommend that you both settle your misunderstandings outside of my presence.
I don’t need a war here,” Kaden said, and the two gave him an angry gaze.
Kaden cocked his brow in uncertainty, and the two quickly exited the base and headed for the car.
Gabriel moved ahead as Eveline ran behind him, attempting to match his speed.
And the second he opened the door to get inside, she slammed it shut again.
Thud “What the hell, Eveline!?” Gabriel snapped at her, but Eveline flinched instead, standing eye-to-eye with him.
“Did you hurt yourself Gabriel and I am asking you one last time?” Eveline was not in the mood to endure his mood swings.
He was the worst of any lady throughout her menstrual period.
But that was not the case; she wanted to know why.
Was this because he was upset?
Perhaps it was because he touched her?
If so, why was he pressing her so hard?
Why would he wound her with his words if he cared?
Gabriel glared at her for a few seconds, refusing to acknowledge her remarks.
“Get away, we’re getting late,” he said, pushing her away and opening the door again, only to slam it shut, infuriating him even more with her brazenness.
“No, I won’t unless you tell me why you hurt yourself because of me,” Eveline cried, refusing to back down from her stubbornness.
Gabriel was already on the verge of losing control, and Eveline’s perseverance only made him snap.
“Because I love you, darn it.
I love you so much that I can’t see a single scratch on your skin.
But, Eveline, you don’t love me enough to consider my feelings.
You continually guarantee me but never keep your promises.
You promised me you wouldn’t do anything, yet you went there and see what that guy had done.” Gabriel grabbed her arm and yanked her towards him.
“Do you understand how I felt when I saw these marks on your face?
This cut is on your lips.
I felt useless.” NEW BOOK ALERT Marriage with my daughter’s father: Darling please be gentle
