Chapter 308: Do you know this lady?
Ella shoved her phone back into her bag after typing something on it and turned over to see the sleeping figure next to her.
Ella regretted dragging Stefan to her hometown, but every time she remembered something essential about her birth, she couldn’t stop herself from returning there without Michelle’s awareness.
Yes, she lied to her mother about going on a business trip with Stefan since it was the only way she could keep her mother from finding out what she was up to.
The car soon came to a stop, and Stefan awoke with a jerk.
“Are we already there?” he inquired, looking out the window.
“Yes, we are.
Now, come on, we need to get in the house before anyone notices us,” Ella said, hastily paying the money and walking out.
Ella didn’t want to draw anyone’s sight, especially their noisy neighbours.
So she intended to take a morning flight to their residence and avoid being spotted by anyone.
They quickly opened the gates and strolled inside the property, then entered the house.
“I never imagined myself entering my house like a thief,” Ella murmured, setting the bag aside and taking a seat on the couch in the main hall.
Stefan also followed her and joined her on the couch.
He looked at the girl, who appeared to have lost her peace ever since she confirmed her father’s identity.
He knew it wouldn’t be easy, no matter how much he tried to comfort her.
If he had been in her place, he would have turned the world upside down to find the guy who gave birth to him.
Ella remained calm, though.
“Don’t worry, everything will be fine,” he reassured, caressing her face.
Ella didn’t intend staying around long and wanted to finish her tasks before anyone noticed.
So she let go of her tiredness and went to her mother’s room.
Ella had stolen the keys to the cupboard where Mischelle kept classified documents.
It was a risky maneuver, but she managed to grab them, and now she was looking about the area where she expected to discover what she was looking for.
Stefan peered around the room, inspecting the photographs set up on the walls.
They were all Ella’s accomplishments.
Mischelle adored her daughter, and the look on her face with each of her Ella’s achievements was priceless.
Ella exclaimed, “I found it!” and his gaze shifted from the pictures to the girl who hurried with some papers in her hands and sat down on the bed.
Stefan soon followed her and observed as she opened some medical papers.
They were rather old and did not originate in the area where they were currently living.
However, it had Michelle’s name printed on the patient’s name.

“Are these Michelle’s medical history during your birth?” he inquired, and Ella nodded.
“Yes” Stefan furrowed his brow as he watched her go through additional documents, finally opening a file containing Michelle’s certificates.
However, throughout the procedure, she observed something drop off the sheets and came to a stop.
“What is this?” She grumbled as she bent over to pick up the fallen photo and slowly turned to see an image of Mischelle and another woman standing next to each other, smiling.
Ella whispered “Aunt Ruby” under her breath as she recognized the woman close to her mother.
“Do you know this lady?” Stefan asked.
“Yes, she’s Mom’s friend.
I recall meeting her once with her mother, but it did not appear to be a cordial encounter.
Mom wasn’t happy to see her, and after that day, I never saw her again.” Ella recalled an occurrence from a long time ago.
She spotted the photo again as something clicked in her head, and she stared at Stefan.
“Mom and Aunt Ruby occurred to work at the same bar.” Stefan squinted when he recognized the name of the place in the photo’s background and gave her an astonishing look at Ella.
“She can tell us what happened to your mother and why did she leave the job there?” Stefan stated.
Ella concurred with a nod.
She was already wary of where her mother worked because she discovered she was pregnant shortly after resigning from her job.
Ella didn’t want to make assumptions, but the worry in her heart became stronger with each passing day, and she still refused to believe it.
“Let’s meet Aunt Ruby.
She is the answer to everything.” Elle mumbled, her eyes fixed on the unknown as her heart grew heavy and she let out a sigh.
**** After the reconciliation, Gabriel drove Eveline to a restaurant and allowed her to fill her stomach after she refused to eat in the morning.
Her stomach continued growling, and despite her denials, Gabriel couldn’t let his daughter go hungry for too long.
“You did not inform me.
What happened in the meeting?
Do the board members still oppose your decision?” Eveline enquired.
She had wanted to ask him about it since yesterday, but she stopped owing to the tension between them.
“Not any more.” “I happened to gain their trust,” Gabriel replied, as if it wasn’t a big deal.
But then she observed him thinking about something.
“Is there anything else that happened and you want to share?” She asked.
Gabriel wanted to talk to Eveline about the phone talk he had with Jedrick.
It wasn’t a long one, but it had an impact on him after that night.
“I was considering getting a health check-up.
I mean us both.
“You seem a little weak to me,” Gabriel said abruptly, perplexing Eveline.
“Weak?
Me?
I do not think so.
I am completely fine.” Eveline reprimanded herself for not understanding where this health check-up had come from.
However, they both appear to be in good health.
“I do not think so.
We’ve been indulging in timely sexual intercourse, and it appears to have taken a toll on your health.
I advise that we both take notes on everything.
I’ll get someone to conduct some tests on us,” he said casually, as if her words had not been heard at all.
Eveline didn’t seem bothered and simply nodded.
It was not a bad idea to be up to date on your health.
After eating, the two left the restaurant and went to the office, where Eveline and Gabriel had their blood drawn for further research.
“If you’re tired, you can take a nap.
They happened to take a lot of blood,” Gabriel explained.
“How about you?
Don’t you feel dizzy?” Eveline implored him to stop leaving.
They were in his private chamber, and Eveline knew that no matter how powerful Gabriel was, he was immune to blood loss.
So, when he didn’t say anything, she grabbed him and forced him to sleep on the bed next to her.
“Rest with me and then you’ll be free to work,” she whispered, her eyes heavy from the influence, and she dropped off.
**** Ella and Stefan arrived at the location where she literally grew up after another hour of driving.
It was frightening to find oneself returning to a place that contained so many painful memories Ella did not want to revisit.
A place that only left scars on her soul was not worth revisiting.
However, events brought her back to the same place where she could find many of the answers she sought.
Ella took a deep breath and grabbed her bag as she watched several familiar faces pass by.
Some of them recognized her, while others walked past her as if she were just a stranger.
The distan is still holding their eyes.
However, she chose not to be impacted by it and continued to walk.
Stefan observed the glances people threw at them, but as Ella pretended to be unconcerned, he didn’t linger on their looks and continued following her.
They soon arrived to Ruby’s place, but Ella was unsure how she would proceed.
Stefan looked at her when a small voice drew their attention.
“Mama, someone is at the gates,” Ella and Stefen said, looking at the child who ran into the home before sprinting out with his mother.
“Ella…” Ruby noticed the girl standing at the gates, but she did not acknowledge the man.
“Aunt Ruby,” she said seamlessly, a surge of comfort washing across her heart.
She still remembered her, and she immediately invited them to her home.
**** “I suppose my visit didn’t bother you, Aunt Ruby,” Ella remarked hesitantly.
She was never really familiar with Ruby, but she often crossed paths with her and exchanged courteous smiles.
She learned her mother wasn’t fond of her friend, and despite living in the same area, they never actually spoke.
It made her wonder why, but their lives were far too chaotic to think about anything else, so she didn’t bother.
Ruby, on the other hand, was astonished to see Ella standing on her doorstep after all these years.
She had seen her on her way to school in the past.
However, after they relocated, she was unable to locate them or ascertain their current situation.
“Not at all.
In fact, I’m pleased to see you.
It’s been a while since we met,” Ruby grinned, easing the tension between them.
As they continued to sit, Ella suddenly brought out a photo and placed it on the table in front of Ruby.
“Do you know this spot, Aunty Ruby?
I assume you and mom were acquaintances back then.” Ruby’s brow wrinkled, but the moment her gaze fell on the photograph, the ground slipped beneath her feet and her eyes widened in surprise.
“W-what do you want to know about this place” Ruby suddenly questioned, surprising Ella and Stefan with her change of mood.
