Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife - Chapter 324
Chapter 324: Why did I even listen to him Chapter 324: Why did I even listen to him Stefan and Ella were on their way back to her apartment when a familiar face drew her attention.
“Pull the car over,” Ella said, prompting Stefan to halt the car on the side of the road.
“What’s wrong?” Stefan frowned as Ella abruptly exited the automobile.
Her peculiar behavior alarmed him, so he followed her and stepped out of the car as well.
He followed her line of sight before returning his glance to her anxious face.
“Tell me what’s going on, Dove.
“You are scaring me,” he said, increasing his voice on her, drawing her out of her search and turning to face him.
“I just thought I saw mom,” she replied breathlessly, leading Stefan to frown even further in disbelief.
“How is that possible?
You recall she was resting when we left the house.
How can she be here?” he said, attempting to make sense of her statements.
“I know, but I thought I just saw her, and now there’s no one.” Ella moaned pathetically, attempting to catch a glimpse of her mother but she wasn’t there.
“Let me confirm it.” She abruptly spoke and dashed back to the car.
Opening the door, she grabbed her purse and swiftly pulled out her phone to call her mother.
She nibbled on her lower lips, anxiously glancing at Stefan, who had also fixed his questioning gaze on her, and then she said.
“Mom, are you up?” Ella attempted to keep her voice normal.
She only wanted to confirm her suspicions, and the moment she heard her mother’s sleepy voice, she cast a cautious glance at Stefan.
“Where are you, Ella?
I awoke to find myself alone in the house?
You were on leave at the time, so why are you not here?” Ella swallowed, trying to calm her beating heart after incorrectly disbelieving her mother.
“I’m sorry, Mom.
Stefan and I went out for work, but don’t worry, we’re on our way back home.
We’ll be right there,” she responded in an apology tone.
“Okay,” Mischelle responded, and Ella quickly ended the conversation.
Stefan sarcastically said, “So she is home, probably woken up from her sleep because of your call,” as she pursed her lips.
Let’s go home.
Mom wondered where we went, leaving her alone.” Ignoring his teasing stare, Ella opened the car door and entered.
Stefan soon joined her and took over the driving, resuming their adventure.
After thirty minutes, they arrived at her apartment, and Ella rushed to her mother’s room, only to find her tucked under the covers.
When she discovered Michelle’s forehead was soaked in sweat, she raced to her side, creating a deep wrinkle between her brows.

“What happened, Mom?” Are you not feeling well?” Ella inquired while checking her forehead.
“You don’t have a fever, so why are you sweating?” she mumbled.
Stefan followed.
Ella noticed this and asked, “Should I call the doctor?” Maybe it is a reaction.
We can confirm this.
Ella immediately agreed, but Mischelle interrupted him.
“There’s no need, Stefan.
I think it’s a sign that I’m feeling better and that my fever has subsided.” Ella and Stefan looked at her, puzzled.
“Are you sure?” Ella inquired.
“Yes, absolutely.
In fact, I believe I will be completely well by the evening and will prepare a delicious supper for us whilst eating that boring porridge.” Mischelle scrunched her nose, prompting Ella to give her a harsh look.
“It wasn’t bland, okay.
“The doctor asked me to give you something light and healthy to eat,” she explained.
Mischelle grinned, agreeing with her.
“Okay, now that you’re awake, what do you want me to cook for lunch?
A soup would be fine,” Ella suggested, observing the change in Michelle’s expression.
“Don’t give me that look, Mom.
You may have stated that you are alright, but I will not believe that unless I am confirmed.
So soup is fine,” she added, making Mischelle give Stefan a sad expression.
“This time, I agree with her, Mischelle.
You need to eat healthily since you have to take high-dose medications.” “Okay, fine.
Soup will do,” she finally gave up and consented to the meal Ella chose for her.
“Okay, now leave me.
I want to relax for a bit,” Mischelle attempted to dismiss them, and they quickly exited the room.
She pushed herself up to sit, tossing the comforter aside.
She looked down at her clothes and dashed into the bathroom to get changed.
When she got back, she looked at the phone, which had been silent, and wondered why he hadn’t reached her.
It was a hassle to have to rush back home as soon as she received a call from Ella.
Fortunately, the cab driver was quick, since she was going to return right before Ella and Stefan arrived.
“This isn’t as easy as I imagined.
But will he cease reaching out to me now that he knows I am in the same city as him?
How did he find out?
And what about Ella?
Does he know about her too?” Michelle felt every nerve in her body tingle with anticipation.
Jedrick approaching her was an unexpected surprise.
But he did, which was a blow, and the way he urged her to meet him once made her question his intentions.
She wanted to know how much he was aware of her life and if her daughter was actually safe with him around.
“Why did I even listen to him?” Michelle pondered, fully aware of the type of man he was.
A man who did not spare her when he decided to exploit her for his own pleasure was not someone she could trust.
But what if he’s coming to hurt them?
Will he take Ella away?
“No.
That is not feasible.
Ella doesn’t know who her father is; thereby, I doubt she would believe him.
But what if he tricked her into believing him?” Michelle felt a headache coming through and put her head back, leaning against the wall and closing her eyes helplessly.
She assumed she would never see him again after that horrific night.
But now he’s contacted her, and why did he implore her to meet with him?
‘Was he regretting what he did back then?’ “No, Jedrick was not someone who felt sorry for others.” She reminded herself that she, too, was one of the women he used for sexual pleasures and then discarded like waste.
“So it’s better if I don’t believe his words and ignore him for the time being,” she ultimately determined.
Mischelle did not want to take any chances, especially with Jedrick, and she would never allow him to find out about Ella.
**** Eveline chose to visit Gabriel’s workplace after she finished college.
However, when she arrived, she discovered that he was attending an important meeting, so she decided to wait for him in his office.
Eveline was merely sitting on the couch, scanning the room when her gaze was drawn to something that caused her to stand up.
She dashed to the executive’s table and settled into the chair.
Her gaze focused on the document in front of her.
Eveline was not one to trespass on personal information, but when she read the name on it, her hand instinctively sought to turn the document open.
These were specifics regarding Jedrick’s illicit activities over the course of three decades, and his crimes were never disclosed.
Despite her risking her life to persuade Marco to reveal the truth, Jedrick still managed to get away with it by accusing someone else on his behalf.
This behavior did, in fact, provide her insight into Jedrick’s manipulative personality, and it only reaffirmed Gabriel’s suspicion that he was manipulating the truth in order to win Erna over.
‘But then it still doesn’t confirm that whose blood runs in her veins if not him?’ “Dad told Jedrick had always been obese about Mom, which is why he never got the courage to disclose his feelings for her to anyone.” Erna and Jonathan resisted their feelings for a long time, keeping them strictly friendship-based, for fear that their love would evolve into an unrequited one and their only relationship would be ruined as a result of their folly.
Regardless of how much they tried to suppress their emotions, they couldn’t deny their attraction to one another.
Erna was the first to confess, but Jonathan rejected her, saying he never viewed her as more than a friend.
Erna was heartbroken since her love was not reciprocated, and she soon discovered the alliance formed between her and Jedrick.
She had always respected her parents, and when she heard that the man she loved only saw her as a friend, she consented to the arrangement, only to discover later that Jonathan lied to her about his feelings because he did not want to offend his brother.
But only if he knew that his brother was always aware of their affections, and yet he duped them all by claiming innocence and making them feel terrible for hurting his feelings when they revealed their love to the family.
As her father’s words swirled through her mind, she understood she couldn’t trust Jedrick.
Eveline continued to think until the door swung open and Gabriel entered.
When he saw her sitting in his chair, a smile spread across his face, and he walked to her side, but as soon as his gaze landed on the documents she was reading, he halted.
“I wasn’t informed about your arrival or else I would have wrapped the meeting soon.” Gabriel tried to act normal despite her serious attitude, but instead of responding, Eveline sprang up, put her arms around his neck, and kissed him, catching him off guard.
