Her reaction was abrupt and perplexing.

Mischelle, on the other hand, realized her mistake.

“That parcel was intended for me,” she said.

Ella narrowed her eyes, attempting to understand her mother’s reaction.

“But I was not going to open it,” she replied, leaving Mischelle embarrassed.

Michelle’s pulse raced wildly as she saw Ella clutch the envelope.

She couldn’t believe the person who came to see them earlier had left something for them.

“Mom, is everything okay?

The guard said you refused to see the person, but now you want to view the envelope.

I hope you aren’t hiding anything from me,” she asked.

Michelle’s behavior has been unusual since becoming ill, and Ella was perplexed by her reluctance to discuss her difficulties.

When Michelle was unable to reply, Ella ended the discussion.

“I won’t pursue the matter further, but if you know the visitor, you should have met them.

It’s disrespectful to leave them unattended.” Ella softly spoke before passing the envelope to her mother.

“Also, there’s nothing wrong with being cautious,” she said before entering her room.

Mischelle stood there, clutching the envelope in her palm, her gaze fixed on the door.

‘This can’t keep going.

I need to find a solution to this persistent worry,’ she reminded herself before returning to the kitchen.

***** Ella entered her room after dinner had ended.

She didn’t bring up the envelope since she found another way to reach the person who left it for her.

She quickly made a call to the surveillance room and asked the assigned person to email her the footage for today.

Given that she was a resident, they expeditiously sent her the tape.

Ella leaned against the backrest of the bed and watched the video.

She retrieved a recording from the timestamp of her departure for work, and an hour passed without anything noteworthy catching her eye.

The guard forgot to inform her of the timing, so she watched everything like a movie till the man finally appeared.

She pressed the halt button and scrutinized the man’s appearance closely.

‘Mom refused to meet him because he was not someone she knew,’ she muttered.

Ella pauses for a second, trying to recognize the person before continuing the video.

She could see the guard chatting on the phone, and when he finished, the man pulled out the envelope and left.

Everything was perplexing, making no sense at all.

“Did Mom think he was some stranger, but then why would she freak seeing the envelope in my hand?” said Ella.

Mischelle knew practically nobody here, so when she heard that someone had come to meet her, she may have overlooked the situation and declined to visit that person.

‘Perhaps she was being cautious to avoid meeting someone she didn’t want to know.

Perhaps she was trying to hide from the person who caused her traumas.’ Everything began to sense once her assertions matched her misgivings.

“Is Jedrick attempting to reach out to Mom, and if this is true, does it imply that he understands my identity?” Ella felt a dread sweep over her.  The thought of Jedrick being aware of their link made her skin crawl with goosebumps.

She did not, however, believe he was aware of her relationship with him.

For a while, Ella let her thoughts settle before sending Stefan the man’s picture.

“Can you help me find this person?” she asked in a text message.

“Sure, but why?” Stefan responded.

Ella knew Stefan would not let this topic go, so she contacted him, and he responded almost immediately, as if he expected it.

“Why would you want to find that man?

Who’s he?” he asked.

His directness amused Ella, and she replied, “He came seeking Mom and gave her an envelope.

I doubt he’s someone Jedrick could have sent.” Stefan took in her words before responding.

“How are you sure that he is one of them?” he asked after a pause.

“She became frightened not only when he arrived to meet her but also after he left that envelope.” “Meaning?” Ella inhaled and addressed the incident.

She believed her instincts weren’t wrong and that Jedrick had learned about Mischelle from them.

“Do you think he knows who you are?” Stefan inquired.

“Yes, he does, but only as her daughter, not their daughter,” she responded emotionlessly.

Stefan avoided talking much because it was obvious she loathed bringing up that man.

“Okay, give me some time; I’ll find everything about him,” he said before hanging up the phone.

Ella wanted to monitor what Jedrick was up to.

She had previously overlooked the possibility of Jedrick learning about her mother through Hayes, but now that he had, she would not permit him to exploit them once more.

Ella waited and soon received a call from Stefan.

“Did you find out who it was?” she inquired hastily.

“Yes, I did, and that man was just a delivery boy who came there to deliver the envelope,” Stefan answered.

Stefan responded.

“But he didn’t wear a uniform,” she said, puzzled.

“That’s because he was simply in charge of delivering the item and then leaving.

He was hired for the job, and that was it,” he explained.

“I guess your doubt is valid, and Jedrick is indeed trying to talk with your mother,” explained the man.

Ella’s heart sank now that Stefan had agreed with her.

“We need to locate that man and question him thoroughly.

Who sent him?

What was his purpose?

And what’s inside that envelope?” Ella’s sudden revelation alarmed Stefan.

“Ella breath, baby,” he whispered Once he sensed her calmness, he continued.

“We’ll find him.” Stefan, too, was intrigued by Jedrick’s actions.

First, by authorizing the proposal, and now with this devious move.

They wouldn’t have known what was going on behind their backs without Ella’s insights.

“Baby, can you do something for me?” He caught Ella’s attention.

“Tell me.” “I need you to find what is in that envelope,” he stated and she agreed right away.
