Chapter 338: Are you related to the patient?
“Eve, Aunt Erna doesn’t exhibit excessive stress.” You’re the one overthinking.” Gabriel watched her as she pursed her lips into a thin line.
Eveline knew Gabriel wouldn’t accept her fears when she compared her mother’s sleepless nights to her nightmares.
“I can’t help but feel the same way, Gabriel.
She may try to hide it, but I know there is something going on in her mind,” Eveline exclaimed, feeling uneasy about her mother’s anxiety.
Gabriel sighed and placed his hand beneath her chin.
As she turned to face him, he added, “If you believe she is hiding something, why not confront her?” Eveline closed her eyes.
“I tried, but she just smiled,” she whined helplessly, forcing Gabriel to smile at her adorable side.
Eveline opened her eyes to find Gabriel admiring her with a silly smile on his face.
“I knew you would think I was overreacting, but I’m not.” As she was about to rise up from his lap, he pulled her back.
Eveline’s brow wrinkled when Gabriel finally let her go.
“Leave me.
“I have work to finish,” she cried, attempting to break free from his grip, but Gabriel refused to listen until her eyes grew enraged.
“Okay, I am sorry, but will you please stop shooting daggers at me?” He finally stopped taunting her and looked at her seriously.
Gabriel enjoyed taunting Eveline, but when it became overpowering, he would stop.
And apologizing was not difficult, but when she kept looking away, he couldn’t help but cup her face and kiss her.
Eveline melted as if the kiss had some kind of magic, and she pulled back, resting their foreheads together.
“I would have ignored it, Gabriel, but my heart isn’t ready to let go of anything, especially when I can sense something isn’t right,” she voiced her inner turmoil.
She couldn’t sleep last night since Erna was continually on her mind.
She knew she needed to trust her mother, but she couldn’t.
“Then I suggest you talk to her openly rather than stressing out and assuming everything on your own,” Gabriel repeated.
Eveline gave Gabriel a contemplative expression before nodding in accord.
“I suppose you are correct.
I will not let these fears engulf me.
It’s better if I talk to her personally,” she said, finally making up her mind.
Gabriel stroked his hand over Eveline’s luscious lips as the duo remained seated.
He was tempted to kiss her again, but before he could, the tap on the door surprised them, leading Eveline to jump from his lap and dash back to her seat.
“Come in,” Gabriel urged, exchanging a deep gaze with Eveline, and Leon soon entered.
“Boss, you have a meeting at ten,” Leon stated, and Gabriel nodded in agreement.

After Gabriel left, Eveline remained alone in the office, replaying the conversation she had earlier.
“I think I should talk to Mom right now,” she remarked quickly, pulling out her phone to call Erna, but to her astonishment, she did not answer.
She furrowed her brow in surprise and tried to call her again, but Erna ignored her call once more, leaving Eveline perplexed as to why Erna wasn’t responding to her.
After her call was refused twice, Eveline decided to check on Erna by contacting the house landline.
As soon as the phone was picked up, she exclaimed, “Hello, can you give the phone to Mom?” She expected the maid to answer the phone and asked her to forward her message to Erna, but to her surprise, the maid informed her that Erna had also left today.
Eveline remained silent and concluded the conversation.
It was unsettling to watch her mother depart the house without prior notice.
She only learned about Erna’s plan to go shopping with Susan through Jonathan yesterday, and she remains absent today.
Eveline wasted little time and called Susan, who took some time to respond.
“Aunt Susan, is Mom with you?” she immediately inquired.
Susan fumbled.
“Y-Yes, young Miss,” she replied, causing Eveline to frown.
Her nasty tone drew her attention right away.
Could you please give her the phone?
I need to tell her something,” she pleaded, her doubt still lingering.
“Hm, young Miss; actually, Madam is busy with-” “Excuse me, are you related to the patient?” a voice questioned, alerting Eveline.
‘Patient?’ Eveline’s forehead furrowed upon hearing the term, yet the connection abruptly ended before she could utter a word.
Eveline stared at the phone, perplexed.
She did hear a voice discussing a patient, but was it someone she knew personally?
If so, where were they, and was everything okay?
Eveline couldn’t stop wondering.
However, she firmly believed that Dad’s guardian would provide them with updates if anything went wrong.
“I should stop overthinking.
Maybe there’s nothing to worry about,” she attempted to convince herself, but the dread persisted.
Meanwhile, Susan raced to Erna’s side, who appeared apprehensive.
“Where did you go, Susan?
I told you not to leave my side,” Erna begged anxiously, but Susan’s concerned expression piqued her interest.
“What happened?” “Why do you look so restless?” she questioned, her fury subsiding.
“Eveline called me, and she was asking for you.” Susan did not hesitate and told her everything.
Erna furrowed her brow with attentiveness.
“Why would she call you?” she said doubtfully, casting a dubious glance at Susan.
“I’m afraid she heard me talking to the nurse earlier,” Susan said, her anxieties pulling the best out of her.
Erna had left the house today without telling anyone.
Since Jonathan and Eveline had both left for work, she took advantage of the opportunity to go to the clinic for her test.
However, she never anticipated that Eveline would unexpectedly come looking for her.
“Don’t worry, I will handle it, but make sure to give the phone to me if she calls you again.” Erna recognized that Eveline was still dealing with the incident from last night; otherwise, she wouldn’t have looked for Susan.
Perhaps she wasn’t fully convinced; otherwise, she wouldn’t have reached out to Susan.
“Give me your phone,” Erna asked, and Susan instantly handed it to her.
Erna wasted no time in calling Eveline and carefully leading her to the corner of the ward.
“Hello, Eve.” Eveline frowned when she heard her mother’s voice.
“Mom, where are you?” I tried contacting you, but you didn’t respond.” Eveline’s voice was filled with worry, prompting Erna to close her eyes.
“I apologize; my phone was on silent mode, therefore I was unable to answer your call.
Anyways, Susan told me you wanted to talk,” she attempted to speak softly so Eveline wouldn’t get suspicious of her.
Eveline stopped for a time.
She attempted to articulate her thoughts, yet her fear of her mother’s genuine response stifled her attempts.
“Oh, it’s nothing.
The housemaid said you went out with Aunt Susan when I called to check on you.
I reached out to her after you failed to respond.
Where are you, by the way?
Earlier, I overheard someone discussing some patient matters with Aunt Susan.
Erna held her breath.
So she heard everything.
“Actually, I came here to consult with a doctor about Mom’s health.
You know she hadn’t been looking after herself since the incident with Jedrick,” Erna lied.
Eveline hummed as she thought about what she had said.
“But don’t worry, I’ll be back home; we can talk about it later,” she replied, and Eveline agreed with her mother.
Eveline responded, “Okay, see you at home,” before hanging up the phone.
Erna breathed out in relief and turned back to Susan.
Eveline remained skeptical despite her belief that everything was under control.
“Why would Grandma need another doctor when she already has a personal pediatrician hired by Uncle Kaden back home?” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS akshaya_vanne Thank you Diamond_Farmer for the golden ticket.
