Chapter 364: I trust that you will always remain loyal to me.
Chapter 364: I trust that you will always remain loyal to me.
Jedrick noticed Rick walking into his room, his expression completely blank.
“Did you discover who it was?” he inquired.
Rick shook his head, clearly expressing his disappointment.
“Everyone on our team is clean.
There is no trace of suspicion,” he said.
Jedrick frowned, his thoughts reflecting on his words. He wondered, ‘How is that possible?’ as his gaze gradually shifted to Rick.
“There is still someone we haven’t checked,” he said, peering at him.
Rick paused, attempting to grasp the meaning of Jedrick’s words when he spoke.
“You.
We have yet to check you.” Jedrick rose to his feet, gradually making his way toward Rick.
For years, he trusted Rick, but his presence made him doubt his suitability.
As Jedrick stood before him, he noted the nuanced expression on his face.
His shoulder was stiff at the thought of his words, and there was a furrow between his brows.
“Do you mind what I say, Rick?” Jedrick’s eyes flickered as he noticed his Adam’s apple twitching cautiously and he shook his head.
“Absolutely not, Boss. If that proves my innocence, then…
I am ready for it.” Rick reverted to his typical detached demeanor, acknowledging Jedrick’s orders with a nod.
Although Jedrick knew Rick wouldn’t betray him, he was currently struggling to trust anyone.
All his hideouts were gradually being revealed, limiting his activities to the bare minimum, and if this trend continues, his legacy will soon be reduced to ashes.
“There’s no need to be concerned, Rick. I trust that you will always remain loyal to me.” Jedrick averted his gaze, his fingers lightly grazing his temple in a gesture of despair.”I just couldn’t think about anything, and it’s really bothering me,” he expressed.
Rick had never seen Jedrick so vulnerable, but this was the only moment he desired.
His eyes narrowed as he intentionally focused on Jedrick.
“Rest assured, I will identify the person responsible for this.” He noticed Jedrick glance in his direction, a subtle smile playing on his lips as he nodded in acknowledgment.
“You are the sole person I can depend on. Don’t disappoint me, Rick,” Jedrick said, receiving an assuring nod from his subordinate before he left.
**** [Back inside the coffee shop] “And now he wants me to wait for him to reach out,” Stefan sighed as he shared everything with his friends.
Eveline and Gabriel sat in silence, attempting to comprehend his words.
“I recall Uncle Kaden once expressing his suspicion about Rick.” Gabriel eventually spoke.
“It was at the time when Marco was taken to the mill factory. He mentioned that during the escape, he saw Rick shooting at them, but he sensed it wasn’t an attempt to halt their progress; rather, it was a tactic to divert his men.” Eveline cast Gabriel a peculiar glance.
“When did you and Uncle become friends?” She struggled to accept that Kaden was confiding in Gabriel instead of her.

“That’s not the point here,” Stefan said, brushing aside Eveline’s displeasure as he redirected his focus to Gabriel.
“Why didn’t you ever inform us? Perhaps it would have been beneficial for us to locate Jedrick much earlier,” he remarked.
“It was merely a concern on his part, and in addition, there were numerous developments occurring around us.
“I simply forgot about it.” Gabriel acknowledged that it was his mistake for not taking that one revelation seriously; however, it didn’t occur to him that he should conduct a search of his past history.
Eveline knew to focus on the present rather than the past.
“I believe Jedrick is wary of someone obstructing his plan, and that’s the sole reason Rick chose to go underground,” Eveline expressed her concerns, prompting the two men to nod in agreement.
“I believe it would be more appropriate for him to reach out to you rather than the other way around. We shouldn’t risk anything,” Gabriel said, exchanging a contemplative glance with Stefan.
Stefan revealed details about the planned meeting between Marcus and Jedrick as the trio continued their conversation.
Stefan, unable to fully convince himself of his father’s assurance, said, “He said he would be fine, but I still have to keep a watch on him.” Jedrick was a crafty jerk, and Stefan was aware of his viciousness despite his best efforts to appear kind.
“I should leave, and please do not tell anyone.
At least not until they open up,” Stefan remarked before departing.
Now that it was just the two of them, Gabriel slowly pulled his chair closer to Eveline, startling her out of her thoughts.
“Don’t overthink it, Eve,” he said, gazing into her eyes, and she released a sigh.
“Dad knew everything from the very start, yet he never once disclosed any of it.” Eveline sensed manipulation, but Gabriel quickly refuted her thoughts.
“He has his reasons to do so.
Consider if he had already informed us about Rick; would we have been able to suppress Jedrick?
He proceeded with caution, taking his time because he needed to be careful.
He simply couldn’t jeopardize Rick’s life by being reckless.” “What should we do next?
Do you think Rick is under a scrutinizing gaze, which is why he’s being careful?” Eveline’s question prompted Gabriel to consider her words.
He also felt concerned for the man, aware that he had completely severed his connection with Stefan, whom he had been assisting in secret.
“Let’s wait and see what he has in store,” Gabriel reiterated his earlier assertion.
They had to exercise patience this time and wait for Rick to make contact with them.
**** Ella sought information regarding Jedrick’s life prior to his adoption by the Millers.
As she took in the details of the foster care, her gaze shifted to the door just as Stefan entered the room.
“What are you writing?” He circled the table and positioned himself beside her.
His eyes focused on the white paper where she had written the address of Evergreen Haven foster care.
“Isn’t this the place where Jedrick stayed before Grandpa Gerald adopted him?” Ella nodded in agreement with his words.
“And we are going to visit this foster care to learn more about my father,” she suddenly announced, leaving Stefan perplexed.
It may seem foolish for her to think that Jedrick was merely trying to manipulate her for his own gain, yet there was something about him that resonated with her, suggesting that not all of his actions were to be taken at face value.
There were certain things that ran deeper than he appeared on the surface, and discovering answers was the only path forward.
