Chapter 369: Who could that woman be
“He was abandoned?” Eveline asked, her voice laced with disbelief.
The old lady, Martha, nodded solemnly. “Yes. After that day, we never saw anyone come for him—except for once, after he was adopted.”
Ella’s thoughts spiraled, but Martha’s words piqued her curiosity. “Who came for him?” she pressed.
Martha furrowed her brows, as if trying to pull the memory from the depths of her mind. “A woman. But before we could question her, she turned and walked away.”
Eveline leaned forward, urgency in her voice. “Do you remember anything about her? How she looked? Anything that could help us find her?”
Martha sighed in disappointment, shaking her head. “Technology wasn’t as advanced back then, and my memory of her face is blurry. I barely remember what she looked like.”
A heavy silence settled between them. Eveline exhaled, a quiet sigh of defeat escaping her lips. She knew digging deeper into the mystery woman would be nearly impossible.
In the end, it was all they could gather from Martha before bidding their goodbyes.
“Who could that woman be?” Eveline muttered as they walked away.
Ella pondered the same question. Just like Eveline, she was deeply curious—but as she studied Eveline’s expression, she noticed something else. A flicker of distress shadowed her face.
Ella stopped in her tracks. “Tell me, Eve. What are you hiding?” she asked, skipping past pleasantries.
She had her own reasons for wanting to uncover more about her father, but Eveline’s determination to find this mysterious woman intrigued her.
Eveline hesitated, meeting Ella’s gaze. Skepticism flickered in her eyes, but under Ella’s unwavering stare, her resolve slowly crumbled.
“I doubt Jedrick is Grandpa Gerald’s son,” Eveline stated, causing Ella’s eyes to widen in shock.
“H-how can you be so sure?” Ella asked, her voice laced with uncertainty.
Without hesitation, Eveline pulled out her phone and showed her a photo of Jedrick standing beside Gerald. “Look at this. Don’t you notice the similarities?” she asked, her gaze locked onto Ella’s face.
Ella studied the image carefully. The resemblance was undeniable. “They do look alike, but how is that possible?” she asked, whipping her head toward Eveline.
“Wouldn’t your dad know if he was really his brother?”
Eveline exhaled, unable to shake the doubt gnawing at her. “I know, but what if he doesn’t know either?”
There were too many possibilities, and none of them could be ignored.
Ella hesitated for a moment before Eveline’s voice cut through her thoughts. “And what about you? Why are you suddenly interested in learning about the father you supposedly hate?”
Ella looked away, her mind racing. She wasn’t sure if she could—or should—share anything with Eveline. Jedrick had warned her to keep their deal a secret, and she knew better than to cross him.
Eveline chuckled at her silence but didn’t press further. “I know you and Stefan are up to something. Trust me, even if you don’t tell us, we already know more than you think.”
Ella’s lips twitched into an awkward smile, trying to mask her discomfort. “I know it sounds ridiculous, but… I feel like my dad is actually trying to mend our relationship,” she admitted, her voice softer than before.
Eveline blinked in surprise. “Are you sure? You know how manipulative Jedrick can be,” she cautioned.
Ella remained silent, her expression contemplative.
Sensing her reluctance, Eveline decided to shift gears. “Anyway, I won’t stop you—you have every right to make your own choices. But we still need to confirm my suspicions.”
Ella exhaled, grateful for the change of subject, though a lingering unease settled in her chest.
“Right, but how are we going to find that woman? Martha said she disappeared after that day,” Ella pointed out, causing Eveline to fall silent.
“There must be a way,” Eveline muttered thoughtfully.

“I’m sorry you have to handle everything on your own,” Marcus said, his voice heavy with guilt. He had already lost hope of ever standing back on his feet, but the thought of burdening his son with everything made him feel even worse.
Just a few days ago, he had felt immense pride in Stefan. Now, all he felt was helplessness—unable to stand by his son’s side and guide him through this storm.
Stefan met his father’s gaze with a serious look. “You don’t have to worry, Dad. I have everything under control. You just need to focus on recovering as fast as possible.”
Marcus nodded, hearing the firm yet kind reassurance in his son’s voice. “Your mom… she barely left my side. I’m glad you were able to convince her.”
“I had to. I can’t let either of you neglect your health,” Stefan said, but then he fell silent, his expression unreadable.
“Is there something else you want to talk about?” Marcus asked, sensing his son’s hesitation.
“Grandpa and Grandma wanted to see you, but we weren’t sure if you would be willing to—” Stefan stopped mid-sentence as a grim look crossed Marcus’s face.
“I don’t want to meet them. Not until I prove to them that they’ve been wrong all along,” Marcus muttered, his voice laced with bitterness.
A heavy silence settled between them, broken only when Marcus suddenly asked, “Ella… where is she?”
Stefan tensed. He hadn’t told anyone that Ella was digging into Jedrick’s past, looking for answers about his life before Grandpa Gerald adopted him.
“She’s busy with some work. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have had a chance to sit here with you,” Stefan lied smoothly, knowing Marcus wouldn’t question it.
Marcus fell silent, his thoughts circling back to Jonathan’s words from yesterday. He had doubted it at first, but now, with confirmation, everything pointed to one conclusion—one that unsettled him deeply.
“Have you found the driver who rammed into our car?” Marcus asked carefully, watching Stefan’s reaction.
Stefan’s shoulders stiffened. His head shook slightly in dismay.
“You don’t have to,” Marcus said, his tone laced with certainty. “I already know who did it.”
Stefan’s eyes narrowed in anticipation. There was something his father knew—something significant. And as Marcus locked eyes with him, something unspoken but deeply unsettling passed between them.
Everything was finally beginning to make sense.
