Chapter 370: I will never forgive you for that
Ella and Eveline were supposed to return home that day, but an unexpected flight cancellation forced them to stay back at the hotel.
The day had been exhausting, and no matter how diligently they tried to gather information, nothing significant had come to light.
“I wish we could have found out more about the woman,” Eveline muttered, lying on the bed next to Ella, who seemed lost in thought.
“I agree,” Ella sighed, frustration evident in her voice. “No matter how deep we dig, there’s nothing—like she never existed.”
Eveline turned her head to face Ella, eyes filled with suspicion. “Are you sure Jedrick isn’t fooling you with that contract?”
Ella hesitated, drawing in a deep breath. “I doubted him at first. But then… he’s been so thoughtful all of a sudden. It made me question his intentions. I don’t know if I’m right, but I swear, I saw love in his eyes.”
“Maybe he just needs an heir—someone to carry on his legacy,” Eveline suggested, but then a new thought struck her. She turned sharply toward Ella, her expression growing more intense.
“Or maybe… he’s using you to secure the wealth he’s accumulated over the years.”
Ella let out a dry chuckle, her voice laced with skepticism. “Maybe. But the real question is—why the sudden generosity? All this time, he was nothing but a bastard to us. Why change now?”
Her words hung in the air, the weight of them pressing down on both of them.
Now that she truly considered Eveline’s remark, she realized she couldn’t afford to be swayed by Jedrick’s newfound pretense.
At the end of the day, he was still the same man who had forced himself on her mother, left her to fend for herself, and only resurfaced when he learned she had a daughter.
Whatever his game was, she wasn’t about to let herself fall for it.
Suddenly, Eveline’s phone rang, and she was surprised to see both Stefan and Gabriel calling her.
“What’s with them?” she muttered, glancing at Ella in confusion.
Ella, equally curious, sat up, watching as Eveline answered the video call.
“Brother Stefan, Gabriel—why are you two video conferencing?” Eveline asked, her tone filled with surprise.
Even Ella scooted closer, her eyes narrowing in concern.
“Stefan, what happened, babe?” She asked, her gaze locked onto her man on the screen.
Eveline, too, stared at them, their silence sending an unsettling feeling through her.
Then, Stefan finally spoke, his voice grim. “It was Jedrick.”
The confirmation hit like a thunderclap, validating both Eveline’s and Gabriel’s worst fears.
Ella, however, blinked in confusion. But the second she saw Eveline’s expression shift to one of pity, her heart plummeted.
“Jedrick planned the attack on Dad,” Stefan revealed. “Rick confirmed it.”
Ella shut her eyes, her mind going completely blank as the words sank in.
Her heart felt like it was being ripped apart, shattering the last fragile hope she had held onto.
“And what’s worse—Dad knows,” Stefan continued. “Uncle Jonathan told him everything.”
Eveline and Ella remained silent, their bodies frozen as they processed the gut-wrenching truth.
“He planned it all from the start,” Stefan went on. “He didn’t let Rick in on it—made it look like a damn accident.”
Gabriel’s voice cut in next, his tone sharp. “The cops got hold of the truck driver, too. He confessed everything—said he was wasted, too drunk to even see the road ahead.”

The revelation sent a suffocating silence through them.
Jedrick had orchestrated it all.
And now, there was no denying it.
Silence settled between them until Eveline decided to break it with the news they had uncovered.
“There’s something we found,” she said, immediately capturing both men’s attention.
Eveline exchanged a glance with Ella, and only when Ella gave a slight nod did she continue.
“We met a woman named Martha and discovered that Jedrick was abandoned at the doorstep of a foster care center,” she revealed, watching as both men furrowed their brows in curiosity.
“Who could have left him?” Gabriel muttered.
“Maybe the same woman who came looking for him after Grandpa adopted him,” Eveline suggested. “And… I have a strong feeling that woman was none other than his mother.”
Countless scenarios ran through Eveline’s mind, but she hesitated to voice them aloud. Still, something in her gut told her that the woman who once searched for Jedrick was the very same person who had abandoned him—his mother.
“But there’s a problem—Martha doesn’t remember her. She only came once,” Eveline admitted.
She continued sharing what little information they had, and with each word, their expressions grew more solemn.
“It’s going to be difficult to uncover something so old,” Stefan said, his tone heavy with contemplation. “Besides, we barely know anything about Jedrick or his past.”
Analyzing the situation felt like trying to piece together a puzzle with missing pieces. There simply wasn’t enough to go on.
Everyone agreed.
“Maybe I can try looking through Dad’s old possessions for memories of Grandpa and Grandma,” Eveline volunteered. “I’m sure he must have saved something significant about them.”
She wasn’t entirely convinced she would find anything useful, but if there was even a small chance, she had to be careful and thorough.
They continued discussing their plan before eventually calling their respective partners on separate phones.
“I already miss you,” Gabriel murmured over the call.
He lay on his bed, but sleep refused to come.
Eveline felt the same. They had grown so accustomed to sleeping in each other’s arms that even one night apart felt unbearable.
“Just one night, baby. Tomorrow, we’ll be back in each other’s arms,” Eveline assured him.
But little did she know, it would be far more difficult than she had imagined.
Meanwhile, in another part of the world, Jedrick stood in silence, staring at the sky. His expression was unreadable, but his eyes held an emotion too complex to articulate.
A sudden thought crossed his mind, and for a fleeting moment, something flickered in his gaze.
“I would have let it go if I were merely an adopted son, Father… but you lied to me.”
His lips curled bitterly at the thought, mentally cursing Gerald for keeping the truth hidden from everyone.
“You both abandoned me… and I will never forgive you for that.”
His grip tightened around the railing as his eyes remained locked on the dark, endless night.
