Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife - Chapter 40
Chapter 40: Hitting on you
Eveline quickly took a shower and got ready. She had a few from the snack and juice Susan brought for her when a maid came and announced Gabriel’s arrival.
“Tell him to wait in the study room for me,” she said, and the maid departed.
Eveline thought that Gabriel dictated how her life should go. She was supposed to go to bed, but the idea of him coming to her house kept her awake. And not to forget about Aunt Belle’s words.
“I will scold him for talking nonsense before Aunt Belle. What would she think of me?” Eveline muttered and quickly gathered her notes in her hand before marching out of the room.
Gabriel, in the meantime, had been waiting patiently for Eveline, and when the study room door opened and she came inside, his eyes lit up with joy.
She gave off a cuddly appearance in her pink pajamas and Hello Kitty top and he couldn’t help but admire how innocent she appeared with those attires.
Eveline, though, was not pleased to see Gabriel. She was tempted to strike him in the face by the way he was staring at her.
Gabriel had been giving her this lost puppy look for a few days and now it had started getting on her nerves.
“I wish I could just take those eyes right out of your socket. I am feeling spooky vibes from you more than from Alex.” Eveline snapped as she made her way towards him and slammed the books on the table.
“…”
Gabriel retreated from his trance and awkwardly cleared his throat. It was not a spooky stare. I was simply staring at your attire. “You look adorable, even with those cat pajamas,” he muttered in the final sentence.
When Eveline heard his sardonic yet sly remarks, she frowned.
“Do you want me to get you a pair of them? I am not sure whether they come in your size.” Eveline said pulling a chair for herself and sat on it.
She was eager to finish this session and watch Gabriel go.
In contrast, Gabriel gazed at her in amazement. This new side of Eveline was giving him back-to-back blows and he was somewhat loving it.
She used to be a little cautious around him back then, but she never held back when expressing her admiration for him. This new change, however, won him over right away.
“I am still better than Alex, as I don’t harbor any ill intention towards you. Given that you have a crush on me, should not I be the only one worried about this?” Gabriel said it in a straight yet mischievous way
Eveline clenched her jaw and balled her fist as she mentally thought of punching Gabriel.
“I told you I no longer-”
“I no longer fancy you. I understand, but I can not stop staring at you. I have the right to do so because you have been too cute for me to look away.”
“…”
Gabriel smiled as he saw the blush spreading across her puffed cheeks once more. He could not even begin to count how many times he saw her blush in response to his remark, but it was still fun to look at as it was he who brought them out.
With a cleared throat, Gabriel said, “Mom gave this to you,” as he pushed the donut bag that was lying on the table in Eveline’s direction.
Eveline jolted out of her trance at the crackling sound of the bag and turned her attention to it. She remembered Aunt Belle telling her about the donuts, however she was too full to eat them.
“Don’t you want to eat them?” Gabriel inquired after observing Eveline merely observing them without ever eating them.
Nobody could deny Eveline’s sweet tooth; and how she liked sweets over any spicy food. She enjoyed donuts in addition to ice cream and cakes, especially the ones his mother would make for her.
Gabriel couldn’t deny that his mother was an all-rounder. Despite being a businesswoman, she enjoyed cooking for her family, especially after a tiring workday.
Eveline pulled the bag closer to her body and said, “I will not eat them right now,” as she glanced at Gabriel. “I was asked not to share it with you by Aunt Belle.”
Gabriel simply rolled his eyes over her words and chuckled.

“Yes, you are welcome to keep them to yourself. I will not ask you to share it with me.” Gabriel gladly accepted her words, and the two soon started studying.
Gabriel proved to be an excellent mentor, particularly to Eveline, who persistently asked him questions and he was happy to repeat the answers to her.
He had no idea that Eveline would struggle to understand a certain subject, but he tried to make it easy for her by using examples, which eventually helped her.
Jonathan had already arrived by the time they had finished their studies, but he did not bother to disturb them until it was time for dinner.
“You have to memorize whatever I taught you now because I will be quizzing you on it tomorrow,” Gabriel remarked nonchalantly.
Eveline simply shot a glare at him and got up to leave, as the maid had already informed them about Jonathan waiting for them downstairs.
As they both left the room, Gabriel suddenly leaned closer to Eveline and muttered, “By the way, I liked how you made Tiffany tell the truth.”
Eveline stopped walking and shot a shocking stare at Gabriel. “How do you know that?” she asked without declining his words.
“The way you enjoyed seeing her from the corner, I happened to notice,” Gabriel said with a slow smile as he straightened up.
Eveline couldn’t believe Gabriel would be the kind of keen observer to notice even minute details. The camera moved to her just for a second and she wasn’t even entirely captured in it, yet he happened to see the smile she gave while enjoying the student mock Tiffany.
His attention span was akin to gawk, which is probably why his teammates nicknamed him Gawk-eye.
“Then you must have also noticed that she had been trying to hit on you for some time now and what if she did it to get your attention?” Eveline’s words snatched the smile from Gabriel’s face and without waiting for his response, she started walking again.
