Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife - Chapter 41
Chapter 41: There is a problem
Gabriel furrowed his brow, following Eveline’s lead, and inquired, “I had no idea she thought that way.”
“Of course, how would you know because you hardly pay attention to anyone,” Eveline teased him with a humorless chuckle.
His ego was constantly being jabbed by Eveline’s remarks, which made him realize how naive he had been the entire time to notice such a thing going on in regard to him.
“No, that is untrue. I do pay attention,” he said, causing Eveline to stop and turn to look at him.
“And whom do you pay attention to?” she asked, keeping her hands on her waist.
Realizing that he had nearly run into Eveline, Gabriel gagged and took a deep breath before backing away.
This closeness with Eveline was doing something to him, but he was too good at concealing it behind his blank face.
Gabriel looked up at Eveline, taking a moment to gather his racing heart, and said, “You. You are the one I am focusing on.”
Eveline’s hands gradually left her waist, and she gazed at Gabriel with unfathomable intensity. She would have fallen for his words if she were that desperate Eveline from the past, who felt giddy even at a glance from him.
‘No, Eveline, that is not true; you also know that he did not do it.’
“Do not lie, Gabriel. We both know you never listen to anything I say,” scoffed Eveline, disgusted at how easily he had lied in front of her.
“If you had, you would not have accused me of a situation in which I had no involvement.” she added, her eyes turning blank the moment those words left her mouth.
Gabriel felt like someone just stabbed his heart and he quickly took a step closer to her. He did not give a damn if people saw them this way; all he wanted was for Eveline to quit constantly reminding him of those words that made him feel guilty.
“And I am prepared to beg for your pardon, Eve.” Gabriel nearly implored, his eyes gently penetrating her. “You know I am sorry, so why don’t you give me another chance?”
Eveline was speechless.
She did not anticipate that Gabriel would be so persistent in asking for her forgiveness—at least not in this lifetime.
The man he had been to her back then gave her so much pain that she didn’t dare to see the desperation in Gabriel’s eyes.
Eveline opened her mouth to say no, but Jonathan cut her off before she could say anything.
“Eveline, Gabriel, what are you doing there? It’s time for dinner, kids?”
Snapping out of his reverie, Gabriel glanced at Jonathan and grinned amiably before turning back to face Eveline.
It dawned on him quickly that his words held no weight on her, and he would have to earn her forgiveness, the instant he noticed her expression returning to indifference.
Ignoring Gabriel, Eveline made her way to the dining area and took a seat beside her father.
Gabriel too pulled the chair and sat next to Eveline as he joined them.
“I hope studying together is going well for you both.” Jonathan broke the silence and inquired.
He was appreciative that Gabriel took the time to assist Eveline with her studies even though he knew Gabriel would soon graduate and enter his family’s business.
“All I want is for this agony to end,” Eveline muttered, but Gabriel could clearly hear her.
Despite his unhappiness, he nodded and smiled in agreement with Jonathan.
“Indeed, Uncle, but there is a problem. I do not think Eveline likes my company.” Eveline choked on her food the moment Gabriel finished
“Here we go again…?” Gabriel stroked her back and Jonathan hurriedly handed her a glass of water. “Why do you keep choking every time I say something?” he asked.

Even though Eveline was sobbing and her throat was hurting from coughing, she did not think twice to glare at Gabriel before taking a sip from the glass.
“He is lying, dad. I never said I don’t like his company. It’s just that I am concerned; Gabriel should be studying for his graduation, but he is here mentoring me.” Since she did not want another person to delve into a subject she had just finished handling a while ago, Eveline lied.
Jonathan watched the two, unwilling to believe that there was no problem between them.
“Are you sure, sweetheart? This is the only reason because the way you are drilling holes into Gabriel says otherwise,” Jonathan asked doubtfully.
At that moment, Eveline realized she had been staring at Gabriel the entire time, oblivious to Jonathan’s clueless expression.
She turned away from Gabriel and forced a smile at her father, saying, “Yes, Dad, that is the only reason.”
Jonathan was still doubtful, but he did not give it much thought, and they carried on eating the meal.
Gabriel kept on glancing at Eveline as she continued to eat the food angrily.
He wanted to pinch her cheeks the way he had when she was a child, but he restrained himself because it was not appropriate. Furthermore, he did not want to worsen her anger because she was already upset.

“I have just realized that Uncle Jonathan thinks more highly of me. Did you notice how he insisted on asking me to eat more food, even though it was you who would constantly pile food on my plate?” Gabriel stopped out of the house and turned to face Eveline.
His memories of Eveline’s attentiveness to his preferences and dislikes suddenly brought back memories of those irritating but endearing days.
He may not have told her before, but he did enjoy it when she asked to eat more. She wouldn’t mind putting the food from her plate on his.
“So stupid of me.” Eveline turned to face Gabriel and said, “I should have spent more time taking care of myself instead of wasting my time adoring you.”
Gabriel smiled at her words and she frowned.
“Why do you keep smiling like that? You are aware of how hard I am trying not to punch you. Furthermore, I am not quite done with you yet,” Eveline said, crossing her hands.
“Why did you tell Aunt Belle about our differences and what was that inside? Are you trying to portray my wrong impression on everyone? Do you not realize that I intend to avoid creating problems for anyone?”
“You can not continue whining to everyone like a child just because I can not get along with you right now.” Eveline snapped.
“….”
