Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife - Chapter 48
Chapter 48: It was a mistake
Stefan’s daring reminder of that day made Ella’s lips quiver, and she gritted her teeth furiously.
“I told you it was a mistake, and you also know that. Thus, remain silent and act as though you are unaware of anything,” she said.
Stefan nodded and grinned as he took in everything she had said, but there was one thing that would not leave his mind: the tears she shed when she told him about how her five-year relationship had ended because her boyfriend had suddenly come to find her unattractive and disinterested.
“Well, if that is what you say, but are we expected to treat each other with courtesy at work? It is going to be difficult for me to act as though I do not know you better,” Stefan hinted, infuriating Ella even more.
“Shut up,” Ella warned, making him smile even more before she turned and walked into the office they were supposed to share.
Ella regretted drinking that day after Max broke up with her. She was in love with the boy, but he chose to cheat on her. He also accused her of being uninteresting and unsatisfactory, saying that her only hobby was working.
They were supposed to celebrate their fifth anniversary but it turned out to be the day they ended everything. It was shocking and too disheartening for Ella as she was dreaming of having a future with him.
To soothe her pain, she went to the club for the first time and drank to the point that her mind and heart weren’t under her control.
When she wakes up the following morning, she is with a stranger—Stephan, the son of her boss, to be exact.
‘Argh, why do I even have to be there in the first place?’ she cursed herself for being weak-hearted over a breakup that didn’t deserve a single tear from her eye. She still, however, dreamed of marrying Max because she could not get over the memories she shared with him.
Inhaling deeply, Ella said, “That is your seat. I have made a list of things you would require to take note of before jumping into knowing the company’s dynamics.”
Ella was back to her serious self, giving Stefan a straight face explanation of everything before getting to work.
Stefan could only sigh and work according to her.

“You think I was good.” Taking a seat next to Eveline, Alex said, “I mean, I do not really mean to fall behind the rest of the players because I am not into playing sports and stuff.”
They were taking a quick break from practice, so Alex took the chance to talk with Eveline in the meantime.
On the other hand, because Eveline had misgivings about Alex, she was deliberately amusing herself. She wanted to make him believe in her innocence and continue to wrap him in her fakeness.
“Do not worry, you are doing much better than you did yesterday. Just watch out the next time and do not dodge the ball. It will only result in a lower score,” Eveline smiled.
Alex ignored Tiffany’s eyes, who had been observing them for some time, and grinned as he took in the beauty seated next to him.
All Tiffany wanted to do was warn Alex and make sure he was on the lookout for Eveline. She might be friendly with him, but there were a lot of questions in her mind about this sudden generosity, warning her to save herself in the process.
Alex left the practice and walked home, but Tiffany saw an opportunity to stealthily follow him.
Following the path, Eveline arrived at the parking lot where Gabriel was waiting for her.
The moment their eyes locked, Eveline was reminded of the kiss they shared inside the storeroom.
Evelien detested allowing Gabriel to approach her, much less kiss her, but since it was over, she would put it behind her and move on without saying anything.
‘The slap is sufficient recognition of her feelings at that precise moment.’
Eveline turned to go into her car, but Gabriel stopped her before she could and closed the door behind her.
“Gabriel, what is the matter with you? Why do you keep blocking my way?” Unable to control herself, Eveline lost her temper and glared at Gabriel.
Gabriel tensed at the sound of her displeased voice, reminded of the kiss he forced on her, and sighed.
“Eve, I have to tell you something.” Gabriel mustered the courage to speak despite feeling the tension in the air.

He felt bad about what he had done, and only he understood the pain he was feeling as he stood in front of her.
“But Gabriel, I am not interested in talking to you. So please, move aside; I have to go. Also, please do not bother to come home. I am done taking classes from you,” Eveline ignored and reached to open the door, but Gabriel stopped her once again.
Gabriel maintained his composure and attempted to persuade Eveline, but she was not in the mood to listen to him. “Eve, first listen to me and then scold me as much as you want.”
“You know what, Gabriel, Sometimes I wonder if there is anything bad I have done to you besides love you. I do not think it is sitting well with you now that I have released you from that admiration. I did not realize you were so conceited, but wake up—you too and accept the reality.” Eveline continued letting her temper out, leaving Gabriel with no other choice.
“You asked for it,” he said, picking her up like a bag of potatoes and hauling her to his car, where he stuffed her in like a piece of checked luggage.
“…”
Eveline was about to shout but the moment her eyes fell on Daniel sitting in front of her, she jerked to sit up properly on the seat.
“Hey Eve,” he said with a wave of his hand awkwardly.
Eveline was taken aback but soon she heard the door open and saw Gabriel quickly move inside, slamming it shut.
“Let us go,” he said to the driver, and they departed from the Aspen College gate.
