Chapter 50: She shared something sweeter
“What do you mean I will be staying here with you?” Eveline gave Gabriel a sharp look as he just disclosed the news of her staying at Winston’s Mansion with them for a few days.
“Uncle Jonathan should have told you about his business trip?” Daniel furrowed, giving a perplexed look at Eveline and she hesitatingly shook her head.
“Mom said your phone was off when he tried to reach out to inform you about his unexpected business trip. So he called her instead and asked her to convey the news.” Gabriel continued to speak, causing Eveline to move in her seat as she pulled out the phone from her bag, only to find it dead.
“It’s dead,” she muttered under her breath.
“He asked Mom to bring you home with us until he returns because he did not want to make you feel alone,” Gabriel said with closure.
Eveline sighed in defeat, however, she made sure to call her father once she got the phone charge.
“Now come on, let us head inside. Mom has been waiting for you,” Gabriel said as he got out of the car and was followed inside the house by Eveline and Daniel.

[Inside]
“Oh, my beautiful daughter is at last home. You see, even God granted my wish to have you come to meet us here,” Belle said, hugging Eveline before they sat down on the living room couch.
“Mom, you never hug us when we return from college. Is it exclusively for Eveline only?” Belle reached out and twisted Daniel’s ear as he pretended to be upset, causing him to yell in pain.
“Aw, Mom, that is painful.” Daniel pulled back and rubbed his ear.
“Daniel, this pales in comparison to what your father would do to you. “You had better think of a good excuse to keep your ass from swelling up,” Belle cautioned.
Eveline couldn’t help but smile at Daniel’s helplessness, but she knew he would get away from Uncle Richard’s scolding.
Daniel glared back at Gabriel as they exchanged looks. He will never forgive his brother for messing him up like this.
“I am heading to my room,” Daniel said as he stood up to leave.
“So did you like the donuts? I hope you didn’t share it with Gabriel,” Belle asked, giving a playful glance at her son, who simply rolled his eyes in return.
“She shared something sweeter than those donuts.” Gabriel’s response caused Eveline to choke on the words she was about to speak.
Gabriel gave her a sly look as he stood up to walk away.
“Come to my room after changing; I am in there. We must conclude the topic today,” he said, turning to leave without giving Eveline another look.
“What sweater thing he is referring to?” Belle asked, glancing away from her son and startling Eveline out of her daze.
As the realization set in, Evelien’s jaw tightened, but she quickly covered up her true feelings with a forced smile.
“Nothing, Aunty; Gabriel is simply being overly funny.” Belle gave Eveline a weird look before she switched the topic and talked with her about her life.
After speaking with Belle, Eveline was able to move past the events at the college and headed upstairs to her summertime quarters.
Eveline often visited the Winston Mansion, spending her summer vacation with them along with Stefan. Given that she would soon be living with them permanently, Richard made sure the room was decorated to her tastes.
Closing the door, Eveline walked towards the bedside table to put her phone on charge. The moment she turned it on, her phone got spammed by numerous missed calls from her father.
She quickly hit the callback button, bringing the phone up to her ear in the hopes that Jonathan would pick up, but it went straight to his voicemail.
Eveline realized her father was not answering her call; he must be flying. However, she made sure to talk to him once he got there.
Eveline sighed and sat on the edge of the bed, her hands resting on the side. She initially wanted to decline to stay here, but she couldn’t come to snatch away the smile from Belle’s face after she saw her coming home.

Even though she was aware of the circumstances surrounding her marriage to Gabriel and the fact that her son was unable to accept it fully, Eveline remained compassionate toward those who truly cared for her, and Belle was one of them.
Sitting there for god knows how long, Eveline was startled out by the sound of her ringing phone.
Turning her head, she saw Gabriel’s name flashing on the screen. Recalling his words, she let out a frustrating groan before answering the call.
“You know you are too annoying to me at this point. Who the hell calls from the next door?” Eveline asked, frustration dripping from her words.
“I just wanted to give you a heads-up to come after taking a nap. I don’t want you to keep yawing throughout the studies,” Gabriel said from the other side, leaving Eveline even more infuriated by his words.
Gabriel being concerned for her isn’t something she wanted in her life because his interference was already wrecking her nerves.
“Aside from this, is there anything else you would like to share?” Eveline asked in a combative tone.
The line went silent for a few seconds before she heard Gabriel’s sigh on the phone.
“Nothing else,” he replied, and without wasting any more time, she hung up.
Gabriel pulled the phone back and sighed again while closing his eyes in defeat. It was so hard for him to talk with Eveline that he had to find a reason and call her on the phone from the next room.
Gabriel rested his hand on the bed and let the phone drop from his hand before fatigue overcame his thoughts and he drifted off to sleep.
A few minutes went by in a calm slumber before fear consumed his face and his breathing became difficult. His skin was drenched in sweat, and his chest was heaving from deep breathing.
“EVELINE!!!”
