Chapter 51: You are my actual business
Eveline was so cautious about Gabriel after seeing his unwavering gaze that she forgot about her awkwardness and turned to face him.
“What is wrong with you?” She asked, turning to look directly at him, “Why do you keep looking at me like a creep?”
It is been over twenty minutes since she entered his room to study. She followed his instructions despite not being interested in what he had to say and went inside in an attempt to end the session, but Gabriel did nothing but stare at her.
Before Eveline arrived at his door, Gabriel’s mind was still occupied with the dream he had seen. For an instant, he was afraid she was gone, but then she appeared before him, still alive, and that was reason enough for him to exhale in relief.
The way he saw Eveline fall from the balcony, her eyes completely dead as if she was not expecting me to be there, nearly stopped his heart. How could a simple dream feel so real?
No matter how much he tried to move to stop her, he couldn’t and that was enough to scare the hell out of him.
Even though Eveline in his dream passed away in front of his eyes, the fact that she was breathing normally at the time allowed him to put all of his fears to rest.
“Are you okay?” he asked, making Eveline furrow.
“It should be me who should ask you this. Gabriel are you seriously fine or do you need to sleep more, because I can clearly see the fatigue marred on your face and that’s creepy” Eveline said it sarcastically however Gabriel wasn’t offended.
Yes, he awoke abruptly from his slumber upon witnessing blood spurting from her head and her lifeless eyes staring up at him from the ground. The scene was so bone-chilling that he couldn’t erase it for some time, but now, after seeing her speak to him rudely, it gave him a sense of relief.
Eveline’s eyebrows went further down as Gabriel’s lips turned into a smile. She was positive that he had a problem, or else he would not have smiled at her comment. He was grinning at her, even though she was quietly making fun of him for going insane.
Shaking off the foolish look marred on his face she looked away and concentrated on her studies.
Gabriel also ceased to smile, but his gaze remained fixed on her while he continued to tutor her.
Four days passed only three remaining for the week to complete and her going back to taking lessons from Professor Beckham. The thought of not being able to see her like this pricked his heart.
Gabriel wouldn’t have felt this way knowing Eveline would never come to see him like she did earlier. Things had changed between them and now he was the one who was trying ways to talk with her even if it were an argument.
“About the kiss earlier, I didn’t mean to-”
“Consider it as a mistake, I have moved past it, you too do the same” Eveline responded without letting him finish his words.
Gabriel’s face hardened as he stared at Eveline with a complicated look in his eyes,” Mistake? You call it a mistake?” he asked.
Eveline paused and took a deep breath before turning her head towards him, “Yes, I consider it a mistake because that kiss doesn’t mean anything to me. We are even now, remember I slapped you for crossing the line.”
Gabriel’s lips twitched as he was reminded how had the slap went right through his face that it shook him to the core.
“D-don’t remind me of that slap” he said gritting through his teeth.
Eveline pouted shrugging causally, “Then you don’t bring the topic because I will only have one response for it” she said putting an end to the discussion.
Gabriel felt his ego getting crushed by her words, however he couldn’t come to argue it as he he was fully aware of his mistake.
But did he regretted doing it to consider it one.
“Why do you have to get close to Alex. Are you planning on exposing him but getting into his good books” Gabriel couldn’t help but ask.
The thought itself was bugging him and not to forget what everybody was going around assuming their friendship to be a relationship.
Eveline face turned serious the moment he said those words and she quickly looked away. “As I said, that’s none of your business,” she said anxiously.
“And I said everything you do is my business. Why get close to a psycho knowing he could harm you at the slight suspicion? Don’t you worry for yourself or you have changed so much that you don’t consider other feelings too”
“Well you can’t say that because I do consider feeling of the people who genuinely care for me” Eveline responded keeping her gaze fixated on the book.

“Then why don’t you listen to me and let me take care of everything” Gabriel said, his voice coming out desperate, hoping she would consider his words this time.
“That’s because I don’t count you as someone who cares for me Gabriel. So the answer is no. I won’t let you take care of my things” Eveline words stabbed like sharp knife making it hard for Gabriel to stay still and he forcefully pulled her by her arm.
“Then fix this words in your goddam head Eveline. I won’t let you risk your life because I do care for you and I won’t let anything happen to you. Do you get it”
A wave of fear washed over Eveline’s face as Gabriel’s pulled her really closer to her.
Her lips parted in fear while her eyes slowly moved down to his lips.
The thought of him kissing her again crossed her mind and she gulped.
“Y-you can’t tell me what to do and what not” she spoke, her voice barely audible.
Gabriel was like a switch button constantly turning on and off freaking her out by his sudden change in demeanor.
“I am not telling you. I am making it clear so you won’t keep warning me to mind my business. Because let me tell you, you are my actual business”
“…”
