Chapter 56: This sounds familiar
Taking a serious look at Gabriel, Eveline turned to see Alex’s dark expression.
Gabriel’s intervention indeed brought the switch in his gaze that went from happy to cold in the flip of a second.
“Excuse us,” Gabriel said, dragging Eveline away without allowing her to object, leaving Alex stranded and furious.
Eveline began to follow Gabriel’s lead after a few stumbles and exclaimed, “What the hell was that? How dare you just walk in on our conversation and take me with you?”
Gabriel gave a mockingly sly grin and asked, “Would you like to accompany him? Let me, however, remind you, Eveline I promised to keep you away from him. So give up on the idea of going anywhere by yourself with him.”
When Gabriel said he was there to protect her, he was not kidding. But guess Eveline took his words lightly.
As they continued to walk, Eveline felt like screaming at him for being overbearing.
Telling him to ignore her problems was pointless, but Gabriel, being Gabriel, would not accept it.
“This isn’t the way towards the canteen,” Eveline said as she realized Gabriel was leading her outside and into the cafeteria.
He brought her to his car and firmly stated, “We are not going there.” He then assisted her in getting inside before making her way to the driver’s seat.
“Why did you lie, and where are you taking me?” With a sneer, Eveline asked why Gabriel lied to her.
“Somewhere away from here,” he said and started the car, driving out of the Aspen College gates.
Alex, who watched Gabriel’s car drive away, sneered. Somewhere in the corner of his mind, Tiffany’s words spoke.
‘She is manipulating you’
Alex shut his eyes, refusing to accept Tiffany’s words. He was aware that Gabriel was now pursuing Eveline, and he could not ignore the way he was dragging her away from him without waiting for her answer.
“I have to do something and get Gabriel out of my way,” he muttered under his breath before turning and walking away.

Stopping the car in front of a coffee shop, Gabriel unclutched his seatbelt and turned to look at Eveline, who kept sitting firm in her seat.
He tried to entice Eveline inside, saying, “Let us go inside.” but she refused to budge.
Rather, she turned to face him and said, crossing her hands, “Unless you tell me why you lied, I am not going anywhere.”
“Because I do not want anyone to know what we talk about,” Gabriel sighed, tiring of Eveline’s intransigence.
“And why does that matter so much to you?” she pestered.
“Because it has to do with Alex, and I do not want anyone, especially him, to overhear our conversation.” Gabriel snapped, leaving Eveline stunned for a moment before his expression softened and he said,
“Now that I made it clear, will you please come inside?” Gabriel begged, causing Eveline to instantly agree with him.
Without a word, she simply got out of the car and followed Gabriel into the coffee shop.

“So what is that you wanted to talk about, Alex?” Eveline asked as they secured a seat on the table towards the corner of the shop.
Gabriel gave Evelien a keen look and asked, “Haven’t you noticed we are in your favorite coffee shop?”
Eveline remained motionless for a few moments before noticing where they were now.

She turned away from his intense gaze and muttered under her breath, “I thought you never paid attention to what I said.”
“I listen to everything you have to say, Eve. Only that—I guess it was impolite of me to remain silent. But rest assured, going forward, I will make sure to answer everything you say.” Gabriel grinned, observing the flush that spread across her cheeks as the realization dawned and she lifted her gaze to address him.
Eveline had always been a conceited talker who talked a lot about herself in front of Gabriel, but after hearing him, she became quiet.
She turned her head away, thinking to herself, “He was not such a sweet talker either.”
Soon the order Gabriel had placed as soon as they got there arrived, leaving Eveline further more shocked at how he got everything that she liked.
“Let us talk about Alex after you finish eating it.” Gabriel didn’t give her a chance to refute and started eating the food he ordered for them.
By the time they finished, Eveline was full.
“Do you need something else?” Gabriel asked, wiping off his lips while his eyes fixed on Eveline as she shook her head.
“Do you want me to get fat? My stomach will burst at this rate,” she said, leaning back in her seat.
Gabriel chuckled at her cuteness and sighed, “I don’t mind if you get double the size you are now. It will only enhance your beauty in my eyes.”
“…”
Eveline felt like she misheard him but the way Gabriel refused to look away from her made her heart race.
“Anyways, let us get back to the topic of why we are here.” His expression turned serious while he kept his gaze fixated on her.
Eveline also collected herself and listened intently to what Gabriel had to say.
He informed her right away of everything Stefan had discovered regarding Alex’s mental health problem.
Alex has been receiving treatment for clinical depression since he was a young child, but very few people were aware of this. His parents kept this thing away from the college authority in order to let their child live a normal life like other kids.
The medications he took preserved his sanity, but they were unable to predict what would cause him to behave inconsistently.
Despite being light of concern, Alex had this fetish over beautiful girls; however, he never approached them as he found himself too paranoid for their liking until Eveline showed her interest in him, fully moving his attention from all of them to this particular one.
He was just attracted to her and gradually developed an obsession with her, stalking her and daydreaming about living a life together.
But now that Eveline was responding to his fantasies, it would be harder for her to escape him.
While Gabriel went on to share more information about Alex, Eveline’s thoughts began to wander to that night when she was drugged.
Eveline clearly remembered hearing a voice that spoke with her and even a glimpse of the face she couldn’t remember.
“Why does everything about this sound familiar?” she muttered to herself however Gabriel heard it all.
“What sounds familiar?” he inquired, breaking Eveline’s chain of thoughts.
