Chapter 57: I want come and see you
“What?” Eveline asked with a confused look.
“You just said something about sounding familiar. Has Alex acted violently toward you?” Gabriel’s expression darkened at the thought of Alex pressuring Eveline, but his words were quickly dismissed by Eveline.
“No, he hasn’t, and even if he does, I am strong enough to look after myself,” she exclaimed, putting an end to his running thoughts.
Fighting the restlessness that was taking over his sanity, Gabriel pursed his lips and nodded.
“Yes, you can, but Alex isn’t someone you can fight alone. He has abilities comparable to those of a psycho, and the more weak they appear, the stronger they are, both body and mind.” Gabriel stated the fact just to make sure Eveline didn’t take his words lightly.
Eveline swallowed, but she just nodded in agreement.
Eveline began to feel uneasy after discovering Alex’s attitude about women. Although she had taken a step toward him to reveal his true identity, she was now regretting not paying attention to Gabriel’s warning.
“Is there anything you want to talk about?” Eveline questioned Gabriel, unwilling to entertain her own foolishness any longer and put an end to this conversation.
“Why? Do you want to go back to that boy?” Gabriel’s eyes turned gloomy when Eveline suddenly tried to get away from him.
After knowing everything about Gabriel, Eveline could not believe he was such a moron to think she would want to return to Alex.
God only knew why, but his words and intense stare were making her wary. All she wanted was to get away from him.
Eveline just needed some time alone to think things through and come up with a plan for keeping herself hidden from Alex.
After whatever stunt Gabriel pulled back into the college, it was clear from Alex’s expression that he didn’t like Gabriel’s intervention. And to add more trouble to her, he said that she agreed to go with him.
Eveline, having had enough of Gabriel’s bullshit, yelled, “You know what, Gabriel, just go to hell,” and picked up her back, storming out of the coffee shop.
Eveline was so annoyed by his sudden traits of toxicity that she couldn’t stand him anymore.
As she kept on moving, suddenly her phone began to ring.
Eveline thought it was Gabriel, but when she saw Susan’s name flashing on the screen, she stopped walking and answered the call immediately.
“Aunt Susan, why weren’t you answering my calls earlier? I was so worried.” Eveline skipped the honorific and started bombarding Susan with questions.
The line went silent for a few seconds before Susan spoke: “Young Miss, I was busy with some work, so I couldn’t answer the call.”
Susan sounded hesitant while trying her best to not let Eveline detect the change in her worried voice.
At first, Susan had intended to say no to calling Eveline, but after seeing how many calls she made, she decided to give it a try.
Eveline frowned, sensing something was wrong with Susan’s tone, but she did not bother her because she was happy to hear from her.
“Aunt Susan, I want to meet you. Where do you stay, I am coming there,” Eveline said, leaving Susan stunned by her desperation.
Eveline was bothered by something, and meeting her face-to-face would put her mind at ease.
“Young Miss, why do you sound so anxious? Is everything okay? Are you not feeling well? Did something happen in the Winston house?” It was Susan’s turn to bombard Eveline with concerning questions.
Susan reasoned that perhaps Eveline had called her because she was feeling under the weather because she knew Eveline would always get sick whenever she went to Winston Mansion or did any outdoor travel.
Eveline dismissed her worry with a shake of her head, but she failed to remember that Susan was not present to see her.
“No, Aunt Susan, I am doing great. I was just concerned about you. Are you okay? Is everything okay at home?”
Susan was taken aback by Eveline’s words. Although she had not anticipated hearing from her, her words warmed her heart nonetheless.

Although they were not biologically related, Eveline had a deeper understanding of her than her daughter did.
“Young Miss, just relax. I am in good health and all is well with me.” Susan was comforted by Eveline’s concern and felt better.
“But I want to come and see you. Where do you live, Aunt Susan?” she insisted, despite Susan’s assurance.
Susan found herself in a difficult position. She was alarmed by Eveline’s persistent attempts to meet her because she didn’t want Eveline to experience the dismal atmosphere in her home while Jacob was still living there.
‘I can’t let young miss come here. What if Jacob treats her badly or says something bad that might upset her? No, I can’t; maybe later I can ask her to come when Jacob isn’t around
Susan acknowledged her justification and remarked, “Well, Miss, I am sorry to tell you that I am not at home; in fact, I am in my hometown since Master granted me a week of holiday.” She purposefully lied because she could not let Eveline come at this time.
Eveline’s face dropped as she let out a disappointing sound.
“Oh, is that so?” she asked, feeling disappointed that she was unable to locate Susan.
“Alright, then let us get together once you get back home.” Eveline stated that she had fallen for Susan’s deception. “Make sure to inform me, Aunty.”
Susan felt bad for turning down Eveline’s request, but she had good reasons. “Of course, Young Miss, I would love to welcome you to my house, but unfortunately not today but I promise next time,” she said.
“All right, Aunt Susan, take care of yourself and miss me,” Susan said, laughing at the fake sadness in her voice, before hanging up.
BEEP BEEP…
Jolting at the sound of cars honking from her side, Eveline turned and saw Gabriel staring at her through the window.
Her face darkened instantly, and she questioned, “Are you attempting to turn me deaf? Why are you making such loud noises?”
“That’s because you are too deaf to hear my calling you earlier,” Gabriel responded, irking Eveline further.
“Now do not keep standing there and get inside before I come there and carry you in the car like I did that day,” Gabriel demanded, refusing to back down until she forced him to confront her intransigence.
“Hey man, why are you not driving?” a man shouted behind Gabriel, pleading with him to take the wheel to avoid traffic.
Taking the circumstances into consideration, Eveline sighed and hurriedly got into the car as they departed.
