Rebirth of Billionaire's Wife - Chapter 61
Chapter 61: That was close
“Where are you lost, princess? Don’t you like the food?” Richard noticed Eveline’s preoccupied self and inquired.
Richard arrived early at the house because he was unable to meet Eveline yesterday or in the morning today. They had a great conversation during which she told him about how excited she was for sports day and how exhausting practice was for her.
Richard knew that Eveline was a competitive individual who enjoyed pushing herself to the utmost in both athletics and academia.
“Yes, Eveline, tell me why you are not eating. Do you want me to ask the cook to prepare something else for you?” Belle asked.
Eveline shook her head, staring at the two of them, completely speechless.
“No, Aunty, that is okay,” she said to Belle before turning to face Richard and remarking,
“Uncle, I already like this food.” She dismissed both of their worries with a smile and began to eat the food.
Gabriel continued to eat the meal as he watched everything from the sidelines before they were done with the dinner and departed to their respective rooms.
Eveline closed the door and walked towards the bed. After settling into the bed with her back resting on the backrest, she opened her phone and began searching for the video that she had recorded of those girls.
There was something with the man inside the video that bugged her.
“Where have I seen this man?” she murmured to herself as she thought about the man who seemed familiar to her.
“The girls said he was looking for Tiffany and they assumed him to be her father. Is that the reason why she never allowed me to come to her place, because she was humiliated by the life she served?” Eveline couldn’t help but connect the dots, as this discovery was a key point in Tiffany’s behavior.
Biting her nails Eveline was racking her brain to recall where she saw this man when a knock on the door put an abrupt stop in her thoughts.
She got off the bed and went to open the door, wondering who could have arrived at this hour.
“Daniel, what are you doing here at this time?” Eveline was taken aback to see Daniel waiting outside her room. A slight pout flaunted his dejected expression.
Without saying a word, Daniel invited himself inside and occupied the space on the couch.
Eveline smiled amusingly before closing the door and making her way towards him.
“Dad declined my allowance for this month, saying he will only pay me if I happen to study hard and stop wasting my time playing games. Did you hear that Eve, he asked me to stop playing games?” Daniel announced it in a dramatic way that made Eveline sigh and she took a seat next to him.
“Then do as he says. Uncle, Daniel is being overly kind, even after finding out that you conceal your grades from him, as you are well aware. I was expecting him to disown you, but see he only declined your allowance. “Is not it better than losing the title as Winston?” Eveline asked, earning a look of bewilderment from Daniel.
“Eve, you truly are such a traitor. I assumed you would help me convince Dad, but I did not realize that he is your second favorite person after Uncle Jonathan.” Daniel whimpered like a little kid who had just lost his one and only friend to his father.
All Eveline did was shrug her shoulders, making herself more comfortable on the couch.
“It is only a month, so stop whining; it is not even a huge deal. You aren’t going to die without money. You have me and brother Stefan. We can provide you.” Daniel’s face lit up as Eveline gave him confidence.
“By the way, why aren’t you sleeping?” Daniel inquired, changing the subject from him to her.
“I could not fall asleep,” Eveline muttered as she awkwardly scratched the back of her head.
“When did you start having trouble sleeping?” Daniel asked casually. To the best of his knowledge, Eveline was an insomniac who would not wake up, not even at the ring of the alarm clock.
It surprised him, then, to hear her discussing sleep deprivation.
Eveline sighed as she couldn’t bring herself to explain to him why she suddenly ended up lacking sleep.
“It’s a long story. Maybe I will tell you some other day,” she said, but in her heart, she knew that day would never come and no one would know she was reborn.
The duo continued to talk for some time before Daniel decided to leave as she started feeling sleepy, whereas Eveline continued to lay on the bed with her eyes wide open.

She was wondering why, despite her exhaustion, she didn’t feel sleepy at all. Was it that the little bit of sleep that she was getting was slowly depriving her?
“Argh, why is my life so troublesome?” She cursed under her breath and pushed herself up to sit before deciding to step out of the room.
Eveline had given up taking pills because she did not want to bother her father. She was aware that he would worry about her, and how could she forget Aunt Susan, who would be the first to tell him that she was taking medicine to help her sleep?
Walking her way through the corridor to the kitchen, Eveline finally managed to get inside without making a sound.
She chose not to go upstairs because she was afraid she would see Gabriel there, choosing instead to make a herbal tea that would put her to sleep.
Taking a deep breath, Eveline turned on the stove and boiled the water before adding chamomile powder to it. She made sure to bring the water to half its size before turning off the stove and pouring the tea into the cup.
“That was so easy.” Eveline turned to leave after praising herself in a whisper when her eyes caught the shadow of someone standing by the kitchen frame.
With a shudder, Eveline’s eyes fell out of her socket as the light abruptly turned on and she could see Gabriel’s face.
With her heart palpitating in anticipation of seeing a ghost, Eveline almost broke the coffee cup. But then she saw it was none other than Gabriel who was standing before her.
“What the hell, Gabriel!! Why do you keep appearing out of nowhere?” Eveline turned around and placed the cup back on the counter, her palm instantly resting on her chest as she tried to calm herself.
When Gabriel realized Eveline had made her something, he frowned and said, “What is with that tea, and when did you learn basic cooking? Are you unable to fall asleep again?”
Eveline then realized that Gabriel had once again discovered her secret.
“What tea? Oh, this isn’t a tea but water. I recently developed a habit of drinking hot water at night before sleeping” Eveline lied and quickly picked up the cup.
She was about to walk past Gabriel however he stopped her holding her arm and pulled her back, facing him.
His eyes looked at the cup and then back at Eveline. “This is water?” he asked seriously.
Eveline felt like digging a hole for herself to hide. She knew Gabriel had caught her and there was no point in hiding anything now.
“All right, I made some chamomile tea for myself because I was having trouble sleeping,” Eveline said, becoming irritated as she withdrew her hand from his hold.
“Now, would you kindly pardon me?” She shot him daggers and remarked, “I need to get back to my room.”
“How long have you been experiencing sleep deprivation, and if it is not severe, why do you feel the need to drink this tea and how come I don’t know about it?” Gabriel’s words stopped Eveline once again and she closed her eyes helplessly.
Gabriel recalled that even though Eveline could fall asleep with ease, she never felt the need to drink tea. So why did she develop the habit of using herbal tea to fall asleep?
Eveline inhaled deeply before opening her eyes and meeting Gabriel’s “That is because I did not feel the need to tell you anything about my life anymore.”
“So please-” Eveline pleaded,” let me go,” she said putting an end to this conversation.
Gabriel wanted to continue, but Eveline didn’t give him a chance and walked past him.
All he could do was close his eyes and sigh. There were so many things about Eveline he didn’t knew. First her learning hacking and now this.
“Is there anything more you are hiding from me Eveline” he muttered however there was no one to answer him back.
Eveline sprinted back to her room and locked the door. Leaning against the firm wood, she closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths.
“That was close,” she muttered breathlessly, slowly opening her eyes.
Eveline felt she had been cautious the entire time, but after Gabriel’s abrupt interruption, she questioned whether he would end the exchange without saying anything.
