Chapter 67: Your feelings will never be reciprocated
Gabriel was still flipping the note between his fingers, his mind racing with ideas, when there was a knock on the door, jolting him out of his reverie.
He scowled as he closed the note and pushed it into the drawer before moving to open the door.
“Why have you not joined the study yet-” The moment Eveline saw the partially nude Gabriel in front of her, her loud noise abruptly stopped.
Her mouth dropped open upon seeing his toned physique, and her eyes widened in shock
‘What the freak?’ she screamed in her mind and continued to gawk shamelessly at Gabriel until she heard him speak.
“What do you think, Eve? Do I have a good body to gawk at?” Despite observing Eveline’s shocked expression, Gabriel asked while proudly facing her, only to see her face go all red with his comment.
If it had been someone else, Gabriel would have closed the door, but the instant he heard Eveline’s bright voice coming through the door, he couldn’t stop flaunting his body to her.
Eveline stood there looking like a dumbfounded fool, oblivious to the fact that her face had turned completely red. It was not as though she had never seen him naked before—they had slept soundly together a few times, but the sight of Gabriel’s body was a treat to her shameless eyes.
“Ahem-hm.” Holding back the smile that was about to break out on his face, Gabriel said, “If you like it so much, then you can touch it.”
He knew Eveline would get affected by his closeness and watching him bare with only a towel wrapped around his torso would’ve blown her mind.
Even though the evidence was pretty clear, he still wanted to speak with her.
Eveline’s gaze was fixed on his chest, gradually shifting to his face as she heard him speak. The moment she saw the corner of his lips curled into a smirk, she felt like someone threw a bucket full of cold water on her, startling her out of her trance.
She felt an overwhelming sense of embarrassment that nearly made her want to scream in her head.
Despite her desire for the earth to burst apart and engulf her completely, her arrogant nature prevented her from accepting her failure.
Eveline inhaled deeply, buried the guilt deep in her stomach, and then she turned to face Gabriel with confidence, saying, “Huh, who said that I like seeing you?” Have you seen yourself? Nothing but a tall man.”
Gabriel narrowed his eyes, taking in all of Eveline’s trite remarks, and crossed his hand.
“Nevertheless, you were blatantly staring at this decent but unattractive man. Do you realize how threatened I felt when your eyes kept gawking at my chest? I thought you would come and touch it any moment,” Gabriel said, which further distressed Eveline with his audacious statement.
Gabriel was not going to accept her falsehoods and put any stock in them after he could see she was sighing over his attractive features and that she had always appreciated his muscular build whenever she attended his on-field match.
Eveline laughed, finding Gabriel’s remarks ridiculous “Gabriel, do not think too highly of yourself. Just because I once used to admire you doesn’t make you handsome in my eyes. Remember, I lost interest in you.” She spoke, bringing him up to the topic by saying that she no longer admires him.
“So what can I do to make you like me again?” he asked, taking Eveline by surprise.
Although her remarks had wounded him, Gabriel still wanted to know exactly how he felt for her, and for that reason, he wanted her to like him once more.
Gabriel was obligated to acknowledge Eveline’s initiation, brushing all the words and actions into a pubescent act, but now everything changed the day he kissed her.
As soon as he said those words, his eyes slowly moved towards her plump, heart-shaped lips, which once again began to invite him as they parted a little with a low gasp.
Although Gabriel was aware that his remarks had taken Eveline by surprise, he was unaware of the implications for himself. Her thoughts had taken over not just his mind but also his heart, and all he wanted were the answers.
Gabriel pinned Eveline to the door and approached her dangerously, frightening the living daylights out of her, saying, “You know how much I long to kiss those lips of yours?”
Eveline gaped as she took in everything Gabriel had said, but her mind was too shocked to process it all.
Why did Gabriel still have the ability to make her forget everything and let her heart race at the sound of his deep, sensual voice, even after she was aware of how badly he had treated her in a previous life?
“You make me feel things that I have never in my life imagined feeling, but each time you say those hurtful words, you treat them as unimportant and ignore them. Why? Why does it always leave such a void in my heart when you tell me that you no longer like me? Why must you be so cruel that you are unable to recognize the depth of my hurt caused by those words?” Gabriel said, pressing her shoulder firmly and slowly inching his face towards her.
“Eveline, I can take everything you say, but I will not stand for someone else to speak for you, especially Alex, whom I hate from the bottom of my heart.” Gabriel inhaled deeply, taking in Eveline’s enticing fragrance

A twitch beneath his towel caused his eyes to shift a shade darker and he nudged his nose into the crook of her neck.
“If you keep pushing my buttons, I do not know what will happen, so… I want you to like me, Eve, because I don’t think I can stay away from you.”
Gabriel’s words were like hitting right into Eveline’s heart. She shook beneath his grip because they were so genuine and profound.
His hypnotic, intense gaze convinced her to believe him. However, it seemed incredibly strange to consider that she was dreaming and that when she woke up, she would be by herself.
Eveline had waited her entire life for Gabriel to show her how much he loved her, but every time he did, his cold stare and hurtful words broke her heart, leaving her feeling like she was the biggest mistake of his life.
No matter how hard she tried to defend herself, all he could do was compound his resentment toward her for destroying his life. What then abruptly changed?
Eveline’s eyes grew cold once more, and her confused expression changed as she raised her head to look at Gabriel.
“That’s never going to happen, not in this life at least. I can never make the same mistake of loving you again,” she said, shocking Gabriel with her fervor.
Gabriel instantly released his grip on her shoulder as he kept staring at her in utter disbelief. He felt suddenly as though he were being choked by the tears that were overflowing from her eyes.
His heart paused momentarily, causing him to stagger backward and look at her with excruciating pain in his eyes.
It was the same sensation as when she had slapped him and told him how much she detested him. The sting of that slap didn’t hurt him so much but the words she said ripped his heart apart.
“Why?” His eyes were burning with tears as he stammered to ask, “Why do you hate me so much?”
Gabriel could never see himself tearing up for a girl, but Eveline wasn’t just any girl. She was the girl who made his heart race so much that he was willing to overlook her stupidity.
Whether it was expressing her admiration or even her hatred for him, she never controlled her feelings. Even though he did not value her words back then and dismissed them, he could not help but feel devastated when she told him she did not want to pursue him anymore.
“I have had enough of just not loving you anymore. “Eveline laughed, letting the tears finally fall from her eyes and grinning pitifully. “There is no specific reason for me to hate you, Gabriel. I urge you to stop talking nonsense with me because we both know you will never come to like me,” Eveline said.
“That is not true.” Gabriel shot back.
Who was she to tell him that his feelings weren’t true? If they weren’t, when she turned him down, he would not have had this terrible ache in his chest.
Eveline didn’t correct him and just kept smiling at him with sadness. Gabriel would never know what she had gone through because she was the only one who carried that sorrow in her heart even after being reincarnated, while he had no memory of anything.
‘Did he even harbor regrets for me when I passed away, or did he simply dispose of my body like he disposed of my feelings back then?’
Eveline’s heart broke at the idea of Gabriel being able to spend time with his ladylove at last. When she passed away that night, the unborn child inside of her also left this world.
‘Gabriel, you will never be forgiven by me. No matter what you say, your feelings will never be reciprocated.’
