Chapter 68: Why did she lie to me?
That night, Eveline was unable to sleep a wink because her nightmares were waking her up and preventing her from falling back asleep.
With a growl, Eveline continued to turn and toss until the sun rose above the horizon.
Even though it was still early, Eveline felt a lot of time had passed and finally she decided to get out of bed.
She slid the door open, then walked out onto the balcony, leaning against the railing. Her eyes instantly closed and she breathed in some fresh air.
The fatigue was visible; even the bags from the sleepless night were prominent but who cares? All Eveline wanted was to erase that hurtful memory and start her day all over again.
Not that she was not accustomed to it, but each time she thought back on the suffering she endured at that specific moment in her life, she felt as though she would die a thousand times over.
She would have left with her child and never returned if Gabriel had only asked her if he liked Tiffany and already had someone in his life. However, killing her was not the only way to get rid of her completely from his life.
Her heart started to race once more, and she opened her eyes right away to get rid of those thoughts and calm herself.
Eveline came to the realization that her phobia had developed as a result of the fall she had experienced in a previous life and that it only flared up when she was reminded of that incident.
Eveline took a few deep breaths while standing by the railing and decided to take a stroll around, as it was too early for her to head to college.
In addition, she needed to devise a strategy for approaching Gracey after she declined to speak with her the previous day.
Absolutely, Gracey immediately ended the call after Eveline told her who she was, and when she tried calling her again, she refused to answer and then her phone was turned off.
Eveline became suspicious of Gracey’s behavior, and she was now certain that Gracey was concealing something from her.
Making her way back to her room, Eveline quickly changed into a fresh pair of jogging clothes and left the house.
The only place she would be guaranteed to be alone and have enough time to think clearly was a jogger’s park, which was exactly what she needed to clear her head and devise a plan.
After thirty minutes of the lap, Eveline decided to calm down and take a seat on the bench. As her blood pumped through her veins, her mind raced with ideas until she finally settled on one, signaling that she was finally feeling better.
“Yes, I will visit Gracey personally and confront her,” she announced.
Now that Gracey refused to answer her calls, the only way she was left was to visit Gracey personally.
Finding Gracey’s address did not take Eveline long, and all she needed to do now was go check it out.
Eveline sighed as she took in the serene scene and got ready to head back home on foot. It dawned on her later that she had indeed come a long way from Winston’s’ residence, something she had not realized until after walking for more than fifteen minutes and still not seeing the house.
Eveline, feeling fatigued, decided to stop at a convenience store and buy an energy drink before continuing her stroll.
Eveline paid at the counter, took a step outside, opened the bottle of refreshment, and brought it to her lips. The coolness of the refreshment soothed her perched throat, making her feel energized.
After emptying the drink and feeling revived, she threw the bottle into the adjacent trash can and started to walk away until she noticed a familiar face walk by.
Eveline’s eyes narrowed in confusion as her feet came to a sudden stop.
“Susan?” she muttered, confused, wondering why she was not in her hometown.
Eveline began trailing Susan in the hopes of catching up, but before she could get to her, a car suddenly appeared, sending her reeling back in disbelief as it sped by.
Looking around Eveline tried to locate Susan however now she was gone.
“Damn, what was that? What is Susan doing here and why did she lie to me?” Eveline muttered, feeling a sense of betrayal coming from none other than Susan.
Meanwhile, Susan walked for another ten minutes before she reached home and stepped inside.

She was content with Jacob being within his limits after getting warned by the cop the other day at the police station. Along with cutting back on his alcohol consumption, he began spending more time at home instead of going out to gamble.
Part of her heart was calm, but she was also concerned about her daughter, who had been alone in her room since last night and appeared to be upset over the lost match.
Susan tried to console Tiffany but she didn’t seem to be in the mood to listen. She even consumed less dinner than normal and asked her not to bother her while she was resting in her room.
But since it was morning now, and after allowing her enough time to heal, Susan decided to cheer her mood by preparing her favorite breakfast.
These few days, Susan began spending more time with Tiffany, who constantly berated her for not caring for her and only giving her young Miss her attention.
Susan thought her complaint was childish because she was unwilling to accept that her job involved caring for a child without a mother since the child was four years old. But she wanted to make the most of her time home now that she was on break for a few days.
“I will make Little Miss the same breakfast when I get back to work. I am sure she would like it,” Susan said, grinning broadly, as she moved to go to Tiffany’s room.
Susan knocked on the door while standing in front of it, thinking Tiffany would come open it for her. However, even after a minute had gone, the door remained closed, making Susan anxious for her daughter.
