Chapter 71: Where is Eveline?

Eveline hastily exited the building, choosing a different route so as to avoid running into Gabriel as she soon emerged through the college gate.
She just wanted to get it over with quickly so she could get back to the college on time and avoid answering Gabriel’s question.
Eveline got onto the bus and drove to the locality where Gracey lived. She learned that Gracey was the eldest child and had a younger sister. Her parents owned a small bakery, but their income was insufficient to pay for their daughters’ educations.
Despite being aware of her family’s circumstances, Gracey persevered and was awarded a scholarship, which allowed her to enroll at Aspen University, a reputable institution that aimed to open doors for its students in the future.
However, since her reputation was now in jeopardy, there was no way the professor could even suggest she be hired by a company.
Everything about Gracey seemed to be bothering Eveline, and the thought of someone being so callous as to use her for their own gain hurt her deeply.
Eveline realized that she had arrived at her stop when the bus abruptly stopped. As soon as the door slid open, Eveline got off the bus and began looking for Gracey’s house.
After being declined, Eveline was left with no other chance but to meet Gracey in person.
She asked a few people about the bakery owners and soon after a few minutes of searching, she ended up stopping in front of the shop.
Taking a look at the small yet, welcoming shop, Eveline then walked inside, where she happened to find Gracey, helping her mother with some packaging.
“Excuse,” she said, drawing both their attention, wherein one responded with a smile while the other was shocked.
The smile on Gracey’s face vanished the second she saw Eveline standing in their shop. Fear quickly overcame her mind and she dropped everything before frantically making her way towards Eveline.
“Eveline, what are you doing here?” Gracey shot her eyes fiercely at the girl who dared to pursue her even after being turned down.
“Gracey, do you know her?” Her mother stepped forward after hearing her daughter call the girl’s name.
Gracey, who had lied to her parents about having a week off after the sports day, quickly declined. She can’t let her parents know about her being suspended for a week.
“No, I do not know her,” she lied, making Eveline and her mother frown at her answer.
“Oh,” her mother sighed before turning her attention towards Eveline to attend to her.
“How can I help you, Miss?” the lady politely asked.
With a stunned expression on her face, Eveline turned to face Gracey’s mother and smiled awkwardly.
“I would like to purchase these pastries,” she said after much thought.
While Gracey’s mother was packing the pastries Eveline had requested, Gracey watched her with fear still lingering in her eyes.
Eveline was perplexed as to Gracey’s lack of acknowledgment until a realization dawned on him, causing her to gape at her incredulously.
Eveline quickly came to the conclusion—without really thinking about it—that “her parents do not know that she is been suspended.”
Gracey’s mother came back carrying the packed pastries, and Eveline jolted out of her reverie, “Here is your parcel, Miss.” She handed her the bag and said, “I hope you have a good day.”
With a courteous smile, Eveline paid for them, but instead of walking away, she came up with an excuse.
“Excuse me, Aunty, can I have some water, please?” Eveline asked, to which the lady compelled her and went to fetch her water.
With no one to keep an eye on them, Eveline took advantage of the situation and went up to Gracey.

“I need to speak with you, and do not try to decline, because if you do, I will tell your mother that you lied about not knowing me,” Eveline said, giving Gracey no chance to decline this time.
“Here,” Eveline turned and took the water from Gracey’s mother before departing.
Despite Eveline walking away, Gracey was struck on the spot. She could not figure out what part of her actions she did not understand, but she could not ignore her now that she threatened to reveal the lie she told earlier.
“Mom, I will be back in a minute,” Gracey said, quickly exiting the shop.
She only had to walk a few steps to find Eveline standing there, waiting for her.
When Gracey came to a stop in front of her, she exclaimed, “What the hell Eveline! Why do you keep bothering me?”
Eveline was taken aback by her outburst, but she chose to remain calm before asking her question, “Why did you take the blame, Gracey? Why did you lie to everybody?” Her words stunned Gracey, but Eveline remained unconcerned as she continued to stare at her.

Meanwhile, Alex reached the secluded location away from everyone’s gaze and heard a furious voice emerge from behind.
“You cannot command me, Alex. Not when you force me to attack your girl because she keeps getting in my way.” Tiffany did not hold back her words, knowing why Alex wanted to meet her.
She was scared because the man had a loose nut and would snap whenever he was triggered. But she was more obstinate when it came to the love of her life.
Tiffany was forced to continue causing issues in Eveline’s life after Alex refused to believe her. She just could not accept her and Gabriel together, especially after what she had seen that day.
She was not stupid to not realize what had happened inside the storeroom, and that was the only reason she could not believe Eveline was lying.
Alex turned to face Tiffany, his eyes filled with rage.
“I should not have let you go that day because you still do not learn from your mistakes, Tiffany,” Alex said in a demeaning tone that made Tiffany shudder under his scrutinizing gaze.
She could feel her palms sweating as she stood firm, masking her fear from Alex.
With his gaze fixed on Tiffany, Alex took one step at a time, examining the expressions on her face and smirking.
“Should I continue with what we left?” Standing in front of her, he quickly inquired.
Tiffany gulped at the sight of his dangerous expression. If only everyone knew how insane Alex was, he might not have been studying with them. He needed a good therapist to help him control his crazy mind. However, this was impossible because he would never allow anyone to do it to him.
“A-Alex, please listen to me. I am not lying when I say Eveline is deceiving you.” She tried to speak, but Alex drew his face close to her, shocking her sanity.
“And I said I do not believe you,” he replied, his predatory gaze piercing her soul.
Tiffany had no idea what had possessed her to be so brave as to voice her thoughts in front of him, but now that she was watching him drill a hole into her soul, she could not help but tremble with terror.
Tiffany had no idea how she was going to make him see Eveline’s lies. But she needed to find a way to let him see the truth.
“Alex, listen to me–”
“Tiffany, listen to me. I am warning you for the last time.” Tiffany was taken aback by Alex’s words, which came across as an ultimatum. “If you do not stop, I will rip your heart apart with my bare hands.”
Tiffany shivered at the sound of his words, forgetting to breathe. He made a direct threat to her life, and she was yet overcome with fear of death.
Alex smirked as he watched the blood drain from Tiffany’s face. He enjoyed seeing how terrified she was by his words, to the point where she started shaking.
“Good”
Alex turned to leave, convinced of the outcome, without giving Tiffany another glance.
As soon as Alex disappeared from her view, Tiffany fell to her knees, having difficulty breathing due to a knot in her throat.
Not only did her mind freeze, but her body also refused to grasp its own strength. She knew Alex’s words were not fleeting, but he meant everything he said. However, she would not stop until she revealed Eveline’s true face to him.
Tiffany clenched her jaw and forced herself to stand on her feet. She was furious, but more than that, she was determined to expose Eveline before things slipped out of her control.
Holding onto her bag, she turned and walked away, only to collide with someone along the way.
“Ahh!”
Tiffany was about to yell at the person, but her words died in her throat when she realized who it was.
“G-Gabriel?” Her eyes widened with realization as she stared at the deadpan face in front of her.
All of her anger vanished, and she forced a smile at him.
“I-I am sorry,” she apologized, but what Gabriel asked next caught her off guard.
“Where is Eveline?” Tiffany frowned and stood still, not expecting him to inquire about Eveline’s whereabouts.
