Chapter 74: However, I doubt you will believe me

Stefan said, comfortably perched on a chair inside the opulent restaurant, “I suggest you glare me with those glasses off.” He continued, “Why hide those beautiful eyes behind those barriers?”

Stefan delivered those lines perfectly, which infuriated Ella even more.

‘Why does he always have to flirt’

“How about I stab this fork into your eyes? So you will not mind complimenting me with that stupid mouth of yours?” Ella said, pointing the fork in her mouth and gesturing to Stefan, who ended up grinning even more.

Stefan was aware that Ella was angry with him for his earlier actions, but what could he do when Ella began acting cold toward him around the staff? To make sure she did not conceal their friendship from him, he had to make fun of her.

“I doubt you would do that; you seem to enjoy my attention when I watch you, and this mouth of mine will not stop praising you because everything I said is accurate. Why do you feel the need to conceal your eyes when they are so lovely to behold?” Stefan asked.

Ella could only roll her eyes as she failed to keep up with the anger towards Stefan.

“Do you always keep flirting?” She sighed, shaking her head, and began to eat. “Or those words just end up flowing naturally, and anyone will end up believing you.”

Watching Ella let go of her anger and become her usual self made Stefan smile.

“That depends on who I am interacting with. You know, it is not always this natural. Sometimes it is forced or purposeful,” Stefan stated as a matter of fact.

Although some may refer to him as a “certified playboy,” they are unaware that Stefan occasionally enjoys praising others sincerely. He does not always do this on purpose to condescendingly make someone feel better or believe what he is saying; on occasion, he genuinely appreciates the person, as he did with Ella previously.

“How many people did you actually praise, without any motive?” Ella asked as she folded her hands.

She was curious to know Stefan more as a person. There was something more behind just a playboy thing to him.

Stefan thought for a moment and shrugged, as he failed to recall any apart from the one he said to Ella.

“There you go.” Ella laughed when he did not reply, saying, “I knew you would not recall anything because you have never done that.”

“Believe me, up until you, I have never felt this comfortable complimenting women without any hesitation,” he attempted self-defense, but Ella chose to ignore him.

Just as they were finishing their meal, a girl’s voice called out to Stefan from a distance, breaking their quiet moment.

Stefan shot his head at the girl and cursed.

“What the hell is she doing here?” Stefan muttered, hiding his face with his palm.

Ella wrinkled her brow, sensing that Stefan was uncomfortable, but before she could question him, the girl had already approached them.

“Hey, Bianca,” Stefan awkwardly said, greeting the girl who happened to be one of his flings.

With sharp eyes, Ella observed the girl’s flawlessly sculpted figure. Not only was she beautiful but she was also someone Stefan would prefer to hang out with.

Ella, feeling distressed, glanced at herself and then at the girl, who continued to beam at Stefan. As the two lost themselves in conversation, she felt uncomfortable for some reason.

“By the way, this is Ella,” Stefan interrupted, causing Ella to feign a smile in Bianca’s direction.

Ella felt weird when Bianca stared at her with those judgmental eyes and nodded. She became even more distressed when she saw her completely disregarded.

Unable to stand her presence, she then excused herself and walked to the restroom.

Ella had always been made fun of for being unattractive, but she felt uneasy when Bianca gave her that unbothered stare in front of Stefan today.

“I think I should stay here until she leaves.” Ella nodded and hid in the bathroom for a while, hoping to give them some space.

She was still standing when she glanced into the mirror that was hanging on the wall in front of the sink and saw her reflection.

Making her way, Ella carefully observed her features, especially her eyes and slowly removed those glasses.

She suddenly realized that Stefan was not kidding when he said she had beautiful eyes and she indeed looked beautiful without those specs.

Unknowingly a smile made it’s way on her lips and after sometime she decided to exit.

By the time she reached their table, Bianca was gone.

A sense of relief washed her face as she pulled the chair and settled on her seat across Stefan.

“Where are your glasses?” Stefan inquired after observing Ella, who had taken off her glasses and showed off her stunning eyes openly.

Ella mumbled, trying to hide her shyness beneath those eyes, “I thought you liked me without them,” feeling Stefan smile at her. They kept eating until they decided to head back to the office.

Eveline caught up on the lectures she had missed and drove home with Gabriel, thinking of the person who had left these notes behind.

“Do you doubt anyone?” Gabriel asked breaking the silence inside the car.

Eveline looked at him skeptically and nodded. “However, I doubt you will believe me,” she remarked, voicing her worry about his lack of acceptance.

Gabriel immediately refuted her assertion after realizing the context of her speech and saying, “I agree with everything you say. Therefore, never think that I will not trust you.”

Hearing those comforting words from Gabriel astounded Eveline. She had never seen him show faith in her before, so she was a little taken aback by it.

“You do?” she asked doubtfully.

The Gabriel she saw now was different from the one she knew before; the former had constantly accused her of lying.

She thought to herself, “Perhaps because the things that caused his lack of trust were still happening.”

“I think it is Tiffany,” she said, to which Gabriel instantly scowled in response.
