Chapter 87: Falling hard for you
“Bug? You called me bug?” Gabriel was offended by Eveline’s comparison of him to a bug when, in reality, he wasn’t anywhere near bugging her.
Knowing that everyone around her constantly had bad intentions toward her, all he wanted was to be with her.
Was it that hard to understand?
After giving what she had said some thought, Eveline shook her head vehemently and said, “No, it will be embarrassing for bugs to compare you to him.”
Eveline snapped, making Gabriel scowl. “Obviously, you are that bug in my life that I can not get rid of.”
Though he remained silent, her words had an impact on him based on the look on his face.
“Then advise me on how to stop you from escaping from me. I told you I liked you, but you act as if I did not say that or that you will not like me back. Do you even know how much it pains me to hear you say you will not love me when all along I am the one who is falling hard for you?”
“…”
Gabriel said out loud what was on his mind, instantly silencing Eveline. It was the first time she had heard him speak for such an extended period of time and with words that touched her deeply.
“W-what are you expecting me to say, then?” A glare was all Eveline got for her stumble.
With his teeth clenched, Gabriel took Eveline by the waist and brought her up to sit on his lap. “You still don’t know what you should do?” Gabriel asked. His eyes brooding dangerously into hers.
Eveline swallowed when she saw his eyes lower to her lips.
“N-no,” she managed to say, but all she heard was his groan in response.
“All I am asking for, Eve, is a chance. Is it really that difficult for you to spare me one?” He asked, his eyes gently following the curve of her lips as his voice sounded almost imploring.
His desire to kiss her was overwhelming, but he also wanted to wait for a response.
Gabriel had grown weary of her repulsive behavior toward him and now he couldn’t take it anymore.
Despite trying his best to let her see his sincerity, she continued to ignore him and kept breaking his heart with her harsh words.
But not anymore. No matter how hard she tries to convince him that she no longer likes him, he will not listen to her because he knows she still feels that way.
Eveline breathing labored as he slowly moved closer to her and in no time she found herself kissing him.
Not only was it the kiss that drew her in, but the words that came out of his mouth begged her to forgive herself for the past that she had chosen to harm Gabriel and for which he had no memory.
Considering that Gabriel was not the one who killed her yet, is it appropriate for her to move on from the past and embrace the present? Or, if she gives him a fair chance to win her heart now that he has fallen in love with her, will she be able to get over the pain?
Eveline was confused, her heart and mind at odds. But when he realized how much he had hurt her, she was unable to hurt him any longer.
“I am afraid,” she abruptly said, pulling away from the kiss.
Gabriel scowled in helplessness, rubbing their foreheads together, and questioned, “Why?”
Gabriel had observed Eveline’s resistance for a long time, which she occasionally expressed with her bluntness. But now that he was hearing her voice quiver, he could feel her fear seeping even further into her bones.
Eveline pulled back. His eye pleading her to speak, but deep down she knew she can’t.
She could not discuss it with anyone since doing so would only make her look like a person gone insane.
Eveline had a lot going on in her life, and the last thing she wanted to reveal was that she had a previous life.
“I can’t,” she said.

She stared at Gabriel, her eyes burning from those unshed tears. She was trying to persuade herself that the man standing in front of her was not coldhearted because he was hurting when she saw him cry.
Gabriel indeed shed a tear the moment she did.
So why has Gabriel in her past treated her badly? She questioned herself.
Eveline was tired of thinking the same. She felt like her life was going in circles and there was no end to it.
It was physically and mentally draining.
Eveline leaned in to rest her head on his chest and slowly closed her eyes, unable to bear the exhaustion.
Tears streamed down her face until she lost herself in the dark and drifted off to sleep.
Gabriel kept stroking her back with his hands while he cried in silence. It hurt to watch her suffer for reasons he could not understand.
Though he had never been persuaded by Eveline’s actual reasons for her sudden change, he now realizes that there was a painful secret she was keeping from him after witnessing her sob while hiding the truth about her life.
Time passed by with Gabriel stroking her back when suddenly the buzzing sound from her phone caught his attention and he reached out to pick it.
He slid the screen, entered the password—which happened to be Eveline’s and his birthdays—and read the message.
‘Thank you for making me feel special. I finally felt like that have someone to rely on’
Gabriel’s expression darkened realizing the message came from none other than Alex.
Eveline previously told him it was an act she was putting to gain Alex’s trust, however the way he was talking with her displeased him.
“Hmm”
His eyes instantly moved towards the girl sleeping in his lap and a strange contentment washed over his insecure heart.
Keeping his eyes on her for sometime,Gabriel then started typing something and pressed the send button.
“You dare lay eyes on my girl, now I will show you how it feels to get exposed publicly”
