Chapter 96: Where did he hurt you?
Eveline gasped for breath, her face flushed red from fatigue, and she slowly raised her eyes to see him staring directly into hers.
She found it difficult to resist his inner desire because of the unmistakable need that lingered in his grey eyes. But she was unable to give in.
They were in his car, which was parked in front of her residence. To exacerbate her concerns, their driver had apparently heard them sulking across the divider.
She thought, “How can someone be so shameless?” and quickly refuted it.
“A kiss was given to you as requested. She pushed him away from her and said, “Now do not get too greedy,” before hurriedly exiting the vehicle.
With barely a sidelong glance, Gabriel watched Eveline dash through the mansion gates.
He sighed in defeat and motioned for the driver to leave, and they quickly drove away.
Eveline, eager to see her father, asked a servant on the way and discovered that he was working, so she hurried over to the study area.
She hurried over to his desk and gave him a quick hug, saying, “Dad.”
“My princess, I miss you so very much.” Jonathan remarked, only to be shoved out of the embrace.
“That’s why you didn’t notify me about your departure, correct? Dad, when did you start acting shady? She inquired, pretending to be irritated by his sudden departure.
Jonathan laughed heartily, missing his daughter being pampered in front of him. Something he saw in her after a long time.
“Only if your phone was turned on, dear, is what I wanted to tell you. Recall that I did in fact give you ten missed calls before telling Belle about it.”
With a snort, Eveline grabbed a chair and settled in.
“Yeah, I understand, but even so, you should not have asked them to bring me home. I am not a kid anymore,” she pouted in protest.
“Okay, so my grown-up daughter?” Jonathan inquired, brushing off her apparent irritation. “Put an end to your childish behavior and tell me about your experiences staying at the Winston House. Did you still enjoy staying there?”
“Yes, I did. It is still the same as it was in my childhood. “She smiled, thinking back on the happy times she had spent with Aunt Belle and Uncle Richard, who “still treated me like a five-year-old kid.”
Jonathan was pleased to see Eveline smile as she discussed her time with Winston. But the realization that he would soon have to keep his pledge and marry his daughter to their son left a void in his heart.
Had the elders not spoken, he would never have allowed Eveline to leave his sight, but out of respect for his father, he would only see his daughter content with them.
Jonathan didn’t want to steal his daughter’s smile, but he did want to inform her about the decision their elders had made years ago. It would be more practical to inform her beforehand rather than surprise her with the news.
“Would you like to visit and stay there frequently, as in the past?” Jonathan questioned, and her face lit up.
“What does that mean, Father? Do you plan to take frequent business trips?” Eveline chastised him, but he quickly denied it because she did not understand the meaning of what he had said.
“No, that was not what I meant to say? I am assuming you miss living with them because you seem content when you talk about them.”
Eveline listened to her father’s explanation, leaning back in the chair. She would never go there, understanding that she would be stuck with their overly attached son for the rest of her life.
Eveline, having spent some time with her father, was heading back to her room when she heard some voices that attracted her attention.
One maid whispered, “How can she take money from Master?”
“Did you notice that her spouse was prepared to go without any money? Moreover, he was so inebriated and dishonorable that I was unable to stand upright,” the other person remarked.
Hearing the two maids converse in hushed tones, Eveline scowled before realizing what had transpired with Susan this morning.
Eveline did not hesitate to turn and head towards the kitchen area, where she saw Susan going about her business.

Eveline ran towards her, disregarding everyone else, and grabbed her arm, forcing her to turn to face her.
“Did he hurt you anywhere?” she asked furiously, examining Susan, who happened to be molested by her drunk husband.
Her words struck Susan like a thunderbolt of realization, even though she was dumbfounded.
“Where did he hurt you?” How long have you tolerate this? Tell me, Aunt Susan, since when has he been pressuring you for money? Eveline lost her temper while questioning Susan.
She was aware that Susan’s life in that house was not one to discuss, but she also knew that they could not ignore the man who had come looking for her.
Susan took a few moments to comprehend what she had said, and in order to calm her down, she firmly held her shoulder.
Eveline had never felt so furious. The last time the girl lost her mother at the age of four, she went completely insane. When her attempts to find her inside the house were unsuccessful, she began to act out to the point where she isolated herself.
Being a sensitive person, violence was something that set Eveline off, and she somehow set off a series of events that led to her trauma when she learned that Susan’s husband was looking for her.
“Please calm down, young miss!” When Susan saw how Eveline’s eyes turned red and her body started to shake violently from rage, she screamed and gave her a rough shake.
Susan had a feeling that something was off. The mere notion itself alarmed her.
On the other hand, Eveline abruptly awoke from her daze and shot Susan a blank stare. She immediately threw her arms around her and began to cry.
“Nothing happened to me.” Susan patted her back gently and continued, “Master arrived at the ideal moment.”
It broke my heart to see Eveline crying for her. But somehow, she had to stop her.

“I do not think you should go home after everything that happened,” Eveline said, finishing the glass of water Susan had passed her.
Even though Eveline was cool, she was still worried about Susan.
With a smile on her face, Susan returned the warmth that was filling her heart.
“You, Miss Young, worry too much.” Eveline scowled in confusion as she said, “It is not like that man will hurt me again.”
“What does that mean?” she inquired.
“Nothing, but for now, rest assured that he will not hurt me,” Susan sighed and shook her head, putting an end to her worries.
Eveline regarded her thoughtfully and said, “Are you sure? We could, in fact, lodge a complaint against him.”
Her remarks startled Susan, but she quickly refuted them.
“There will be no need. He is already on notice for harassing a girl at your college. So, if he thinks about injuring me, I’ll remind him of the warning,” Susan stated gently.
The fact that she revealed Jacob’s harassment of Kathrin was enough to convince her that Susan was not like her daughter. But what if she doesn’t know what Tiffany is doing?
Eveline stopped being around her after she came clean about their relationship with Tiffany that evening. She was still processing despite having clues but now all her worries were put to rest.
Susan, on the other hand, was grateful that she was surrounded by supportive people. From having a brother figure like Jonathan to a daughter like Eveline, she couldn’t help but feel blissful.
After spending some time together, Susan went back inside the house to complete some unfinished business, and Eveline stayed there for a while longer.
She remembered how she had discovered that Jacob Ambrose was Susan’s spouse. She initially located his picture in one old album before continuing to look for more information about him.
Eveline put the pieces together of her assumption, from being Susan’s husband to being Tiffany’s father.
Jacob was actually her father’s business partner and friend, but because of his opulent lifestyle and greed, he lost both his friendship and his career.
His addiction cost him every share of his company, which failed quickly.
She now understood why Susan was constantly appreciative of them.
Eveline exhaled deeply, putting an end to her anxieties, and then walked back into the house.

Tiffany, meantime, told Gracey’s mother the truth and went back home. Since the girl was only going to be used as a scapegoat for her scheme, she had no sympathy for her.
Her purpose was only to assuage her doubts, and she succeeded in doing so. Once she realized Gracey was not the one behind the warning, she concluded that her person was someone from the college.
Tiffany sat inside her room, reading the text over and over again. Her eyes were solid, but her mind was racing through the list of people she could suspect.
“What if its just a prank and there is no one behind this note?” Tiffany abruptly exclaimed shortly, her lips curving into a hopeful smile.
