Chapter 206: Shadow Orcs’ first job
The thieves were startled upon realizing that there was another presence in the camp.
They turned towards Michael, using their scimitars defensively like a shield. But once they realized how young he was, their unease lessened.
“Don’t make any funny moves, kid. We don’t want you to get hurt.”
“Just let us have the carriage, and all of you can walk free tonight.”
“Hey! What are you doing?!”
They saw Michael move towards his tent, thinking that he was trying to help the chocolate merchants in some way.
“I just wanted something to sit on,” Michael said as he pulled out a chair from his tent and sat on it casually. “Go on,” he gestured to the thieves.
The shadow Orcs had just awakened, so they’re still in the 1-star realm. These thieves are in the 2-star realm, but they are just at the Orcs’ level. This will be a good fight, he thought to himself.
The thieves were quite unnerved by the calm demeanor of the ten-something-year-old kid looking at them with amusement in his eyes. Not to mention the fact that he laughed during a robbery in the middle of the night, there was definitely something wrong with this child.
“Hey. Deal with him.”
“…the kid? That’s a bit much, don’t you think?..,” the thief whispered.
“Just scare him a little. Make sure he doesn’t interfere in our business here.”
The unfortunate rookie thief with a lanky build reluctantly turned around to pick up a rope in their bag. He wanted to tie up Michael and prevent him from running away and alerting the authorities.
But just as he turned around, he suddenly bumped into something hard and squishy at the same time.
“Ow!…huh?”
The thief was face to face with a hairy wall in front of him. His expression was one of annoyance at first, but as his dazedness phased away, his eyes finally showed recognition that he was facing something big and terrifying.
His head slowly looked up until he saw an Orcanine Orc looking down at him with red eyes, sharp tusks and all.
The thief started to back away, struggling to get the words out of his mouth.
A cold sweat poured down his back as he looked around and realized that this Orc wasn’t the only one stalking them from behind. There were ten of them in total, each one standing behind the thieves, waiting patiently like a snake about to pounce.
These Orcs were just silently standing there, menacingly.
“ha…ha…..HAAAAA!” the thief finally let out a scream, with fire mana billowing up from his dantian. “[Fire Strike]!”
His scimitar erupted in a fire, and as he swung it in the air, a crescent of fire shot off towards the silent Orcanine Orc.
And in his flusteredness, he ended up throwing away his scimitar towards the Orc as well.
But before the [Fire Strike] even burned a single fur from the Orcanine’s body, a prismatic shield appeared around his body and extinguished the flames.
As for the scimitar itself, it was easily swiped away by a well-timed punch from the Orc.
It was only now did the other thieves finally took notice of the Shadow Orcs standing behind them.
“AHHH! Damn it, who are you all?!”
“Orcs?! We’re nowhere near Orcus Town!”
“Whatever. Defeat them!”
The thieves began activating their Physical Arts spells one by one, which Michael happily observed on the sidelines.

This would be the first time he would see an actual fight in his entire life, which was quite exciting and reminded him of watching anime in his previous life. Though he must admit, this was a lot more exciting than seeing moving images on a flat screen.
The thieves used various spells using their scimitars as their main offense.
One of them threw [Fire Strike] at any opportunity. The other used his quickness to approach the Orcs and try to slice them into pieces. And others also used complicated stances and fighting styles to try and overwhelm their opponents.
However, their efforts were rendered null by the presence of the prismatic shield surrounding the Orcs. Everything was extinguished.
And anytime the thieves try to use their scimitars to attack, the Orcpuine Orcs would move in the frontlines and clash their quills against the thieves.
“Go, my Shadow Orcs!” Fudge screamed beside Michael. “Show them the power of ninjas!”
Michael looked at the violet slime. “You know, ninjas used stealth and finesse to deal with their opponents.”
“No such thing, master. They used big destructive moves like the ras*ngan or the ch*dori.”
Just as Fudge said that, Michael saw the Orcanine Orcs gather in one group. Then, they began to mold their shadows into one big ball carried by their leader.
“Shadow Sphere!” Fudge excitedly rallied, just as the Orc holding the shadow ball ran towards the thieves.
Seeing this, the thieves took back their scimitars being entangled from the Orcupine Orcs’ quills before using them to protect themselves against the other Orcs.
A few 2-star spells were used like [Stone Skin], [Air Dodge], and [Heart of Fire], yet they were utterly destroyed upon contact with the innate skill from the Orcs called [Shadow Sphere].
The thieves were thrown a few feet into the air upon contact, before slamming back down on the ground and exacerbating the internal injuries they just sustained.
“Gah…”
“Haaaa…..”
The thieves could only groan, defeated and broken, against the Shadow Orcs.
“Hahaha! See, Master? This is the power of Reborn’s Shadow!” Fudge bragged to Michael.
To which, Michael had to admit—they were pretty good, especially since these Orcs were constantly hiding in every citizen of Reborn, ready to defend them at a moment’s notice.
“Good job, Fudge. I’m liking the future of your little group,” he said to the violet slime.
“Hehehe…pat?”
“Sure, little guy.” Michael obliged and patted Fudge for a good job.
After that, the Orcs bowed towards Fudge and Michael before turning back into shadows that hid under the chocolate merchants.
