Chapter 546: No pure person.

Leaning forward, Rufus went directly to the point. He asked Phoebe to tell him who had given her information about this other theory of Ravana being freed without the keys. “I ask because all the people I discussed the theory with have never heard of it. It is not written in the books of the academy, none of the research scholars on the supernatural have heard of this.” His gaze dissected her. “I may have set off a wave of panic for no reason.”

Everyone’s eyes were pinned on Phoebe.

“Star did.” Phoebe answered swiftly, squirming under their forensic attention.

“Star!!” David exclaimed.

Maureen’s eyes fluttered like moth wings. “The baby?” She asked, confusion flickered in her eyes, mirroring the rest of the listeners.

A laugh came from Rufus, one that was laced with relief. He now believed that Phoebe had to be mistaken. “How would a baby know something like that? My dear I think that pregnancy hormones are making you a little crazy, no offense.” He did not mean to offend her by his words, but it was just ridiculous.

A baby that had not been born yet, what could she know about demons and the supernatural war? Even old men and dragons did not have this information. He thought about dragons in particular because they were some of longest living creatures he had ever met.

Rufus knew one that was eight hundred years old, he was called Ignivar. He knew a lot of things but he also did not know about this theory.

“Perhaps you are right about those hormones.” The spirit said. “But the baby did tell her and it is the truth.” It relayed to them.

For a few seconds air left the room, no one breathed. Then Maureen exhaled loudly. “Honestly at this point nothing shocks me anymore. An unborn baby speaks to her mother, and they talk about demons, what’s new in the world?” She slumped back in the sofa.

Rufus stared blankly. “If that is the case then why is it not written anywhere in the records of the academy? How does the baby know? And how exactly can Ravana be freed without the keys? True or not, we need all the information because now we have to prevent her from taking that route.” His words dripped with barely leashed irritation.

The spirit sniveled softly and sighed. “I will answer what I can, it was not written anywhere because the seven witches decided that the world was safer that way. The odds of it happening were also low because finding a pure person is like finding the door to heaven when one is alive…..impossible.

Even in a police investigation, not all information is given to the public with good reason. How baby Star knows is still a mystery to me too, she is just too young, yet she is doing extraordinary things already.” The spirit paused for breath; it was about to reveal an aged secret. “Ravana can be set free if her minions get their paws on the heart of a pure human.

This human should be descended from one of those that locked up Ravana, specifically the seven witches. It has to be done on the night of the full blood moon. Maureen was right, there is a spell that must be done along with the ritual. You would also need nightshade dust, phoenix ash, a lunar gemstone, an obsidian blade, blood of the forgotten, an etherial flame and the scroll of whispers. ” It shared with them.

Phoebe nodded once. “Exactly what Star said, minus the ingredients for the ritual.” She threw in.

“Sounds like a very complicated ritual to do.” Rekha said, the tightness in her chest loosening.

Wiping away cold sweat, Rufus stared at the spirit. “There really is another way. Damn it! So, a pure human, does this mean like babies from the founding families of the seven witches can be used as sacrificial lambs?” He shifted to the edge of his seat. “Do you know how many babies are welcomed in the homes of founding families each year? How will we know which one is pure? Aren’t all babies pure? That would mean they have many options to choose from.” A sense of dread began to swell inside him.

The spirit flung its hand in an indifferent wave. “Babies are pure yes, but this must be a heart of an adult. How many adult humans do you know that are pure Rufus, especially those that come from founding families?” It asked. “These are the qualities of the pure person. Compassion that does not disdain, wisdom in everything, selflessness to a degree of ridiculousness. Humility in every situation, courage that never wavers, patience like the creator. No…in fact beyond that because if you slap him or her, they turn the other cheek and probably say thank you after.

Integrity, they should have a moral compass that can never be compromised for any reason. The last requirement is pure magic and a harmonic connection. Their bond with nature and the elements should be tight.”

“Know any adults like that uncle Rufus?” Maureen asked.

With mild uncertainty, Rufus pulled his brows together. “None honestly, does this mean that pure people do not exist? ” Worry returned to cross his eyes.

“I don’t know any guardian like that.” Rekha chimed in.

“Same here.” David chipped in.

There was a flicker of something in its eye….guilt, maybe_ before the practiced smile slid into place. “See, like I said, finding a pure human on earth is like finding the door to heaven when one is alive. Even the prophet worshiped by the believers in the church of saints and angels lost his temper once with non-believers.

Humans don’t turn the other cheek when slapped and say thank you. They punch back, scream or call 911 and get the motherfucker locked up.” Maureen said.

“I would be panicking is such a person did exist but there is none. Ravana’s minion will just have to settle for continuing their fruitless search for the keys and we have the upper hand.” The Saxon spirit declared.

As the rest jubilated on hearing the spirit’s declaration, blood drained from Phoebe face bit by bit because she could clearly tell that the spirit was lying and that could only mean one thing, that this pure hearted person did exist somewhere.

She hoped it was not her because nobody was getting her heart. And it better not be Star because then she would be taking their hearts in return and locking them up with Ravana and then tossing those keys in hell where they would melt and this chapter would be closed for all eternity.

“Oh! virgin. They should be a virgin too.” The Spirit yelled out.
