Chapter 547: Know any virgins with hearts to offer?
“Good Lord a virgin!” Maureen exclaimed.
“If that’s not pure I don’t know what is.” Rekha giggled. “I am sure that none of the people in this room are qualified. Wait…are we from the families of the seven witches?”
“We are not.” Maureen Mayfair quickly spoke on behalf of the Mayfair’s. She was familiar with the history of their family and witches did not run in their lineage. Shamans, seers, sure but no witches.
In the supernatural war, the Mayfair’s had been among the fighters and the seers that predicted the size of Ravana’s army, what powers they had, and they also helped in deciding which people would play fundamental roles in the battle.
“But your family is.” She turned to David and Rufus. “Uncle Rufus, do you know any pure virgin Saxon’s with hearts to offer?”
Rufus could not answer the question, one, he did not know anyone that fit the description and two, Maureen Mayfair was exhausting to deal with. In her words, there was humor and yet she was serious. Someone that did not know her would find her exasperating.
“We will take a head count.” David said.
“I say no because we may have virgins but when it comes to all those other qualities, it is a firm negative. We Saxon’s come out of our mother’s wombs with large ego’s, pride, arrogance and other qualities that make us impure.” Rufus’ body seemed to deflate, tension leaking out as he slumped forward with a sigh, a grateful one that his family members were not the sacrificial lambs.
Maureen swallowed hard, nodding slowly. “Not that it matters but we Mayfair’s are proud too, and we gossip a lot. We definitely don’t have virgins anymore. I think such a person does not exist in any of the founding families. All of them are filled with greed and all kinds of horrible manners, the degrees just differ.
I do not know why my heart skipped a bit thinking that a human being can have a pure heart. We would not be in the guardian business if humans were pure hearted.” She threw herself head back with a wild, unhinged cackle.
Her laughter was contagious, spreading through the group like wildfire, all of them except for Phoebe and the spirit.
“I wonder how they will feel when they find out that Zephyra lied, my poor grandma Maureen will be the most disappointed because she is the most relieved, maybe you should just tell them that there is a pure human.” Star suggested quietly.
“Stop laughing.” Phoebe yelled without warning, gaining the attention of the entire room. None of them said a word but they could see her discomfort.
Phoebe released a soft whimper, scanning her head for anything to use as an excuse for her outburst. “I was just thinking that it is probably too soon for anyone to be feeling any relief when we have a lot to deal. We need to examine all the descendants of the seven witches, uncle Rufus that is your job. This is not something to kiki and hahaha about.
We should also check if anybody has acquired the ingredients for the ritual.” She looked at Rekha. “Rekha, find out if any phoenixes exist and if yes, has any gone through a rebirth in the last….make it four hundred years. If yes, what happened to the ashes?
Aunt Maureen, you are in the antique business. You are on lunar gemstone duty, those are rare. Obsidian blades and the scroll of whispers. Who has it? We also need to step up our efforts in finding my grandfather.” She distributed orders with firmness that left no wiggle room.
Perking to his feet, Rufus gawked at her. “Your grandfather? A-are you referring to Cillian Mayfair?” He spoke, his words dripping with uncertainty.
Nodding to confirm, Phoebe leveled her eyes to meet his. “The one and only.” She responded smoothly.
Rufus’ legs melted like butter on a hot pan; he sank into the chair. The hits just kept coming, each harder than the last. “W-what are you talking about? Rufus is dead! I was on a mission when that entire ordeal happened, but Rebecca confirmed to me that her husband died. More than that I saw the pictures of his burnt body, it was him, the wedding ring, identity cards and his blade, the Aetherion.
It is a sword that he won off of a bet with an angel. It channels divine energy and heals or strikes with holy light. Rufus would never go anywhere without the Aetherion. He even took showers with the damn sword.” He said hurriedly, out of all the things they had told him, this was the most absurd.
Without wasting time, they told the old man the reasons for their suspicions. Not just that Phoebe used the ghost’s notebook to summon the ghost in front him, but Cillian did not appear.
“I am not convinced about this book; I have never seen or heard of it before. Summon Holly Saxon then I will believe you.” Rufus told Phoebe.
Phoebe did as he requested, Holly appeared sending the room into disbelief. Phoebe who was wondering who Holly was found out that she was Rufus’ sister who died in her early twenties. Few Saxons’ remembered Holly because she was one of quiet ones. If anybody could have qualified for pure in the Saxon family, Holly was it. Their reunion was beautiful but brief.
Rufus then asked her to summon five more Saxon’s, ancestors of his and in each case, it worked. He changed from Saxon’s to old friends, guardians that had died and again, it worked. David had to stop him when he started making a list of all the dead people that had not reincarnated that he wanted to speak to.
“I cannot believe that you are sitting on such a gem, if it falls in the wrong hands however it could be used for evil.” A wistful look crossed his eyes as he watched Phoebe put away the book. He wished to add it to the collection at the academy.
It was a good tool for education; the students could learn from the first guardians and other knowledgeable teachers that had died. They were better than fifty percent of the teachers the school had now.
“You do not have to worry Rufus, the book is safe with us, but you can borrow it.” It assured him, noticing a desire in his eyes.
It was a Saxon inheritance, by birthright, Rufus had a right to the book.
“So, Cillian is out there? Doing what? I need to speak to Edward; it is very possible that he may have forgotten something in the last message his father relayed because he was afraid and scared. In such cases every word matters, no matter how small it is. Cillian was the type to use coded words to pass on information.” He massaged his chin, wondering where his old friend could be. He could surely use him now that shit was hitting the roof in the supernatural.

“He’s veiling himself with a spell that renders all locator spells useless.” The spirit re-told him.
Arching an eyebrow, Rufus narrowed his eyes. “I can ask Abraham and his team to weave a new spell that could either tear through the magic that is creating the veil or come up with a more powerful one to overshadow the one Rufus is using.”
