Chapter 548: The Spellcaster’s.
Pressing her lips together fighting the laugh, a loud snickered slipped out of Maureen’s mouth. “I am sorry, I know that you are serious, but I am hoping that you are joking.” She apologized only because she had to.
Laughing at an elder was always considered rude. Laughing at Rufus was even worse because he was once her teacher. He was the dean of the academy, despite his old age, he still commanded a lot of respect. If felt like a sin to laugh.
“Something funny guardian?” He asked authoritatively using the voice that he did when addressing the students at the school that had been caught doing mischief.
“No sir.” Maureen adjusted her attitude and responded like a disciplined woman. “But you are aware that the Spellcaster’s for some reason have failed to weave any new powerful spell in the recent years. They have lost themselves to vanity and laziness. So how are they going to weave a spell that will find a man determined to hide himself from the world that even his spiritual traces cannot be detected.” She continued to say.
Having had a lot to deal with on his plate and with a small team. Rufus was yet to know of the shortcomings of the Spellcaster’s but nevertheless he acted like he knew.
“I am aware that the academy is rotting in all sectors but that does not mean that we should give up. Do you have a better candidate who can weave a spell other than the Spellcaster’s? They were born with magic specifically for this purpose. While others can weave spells, they have to work harder and cultivate their magic ten times more.
It is not child’s play, and one has to put all their soul and heart into it, sometimes even blood. The Spellcaster’s are our most natural and best choice.”
Maureen who could feel the sensation of his eyes boring on her forehead, let out a pensive sigh. “We can pin our hopes on Zephyra. She was a powerful witch, she must know how we can go about this, and she is already working on the spell.” The words left her lips before she could second guess them.
Shaking her head, the spirit stared at her. “Oh dear child, I hate to break it to you, but my spells so far seem to be producing no results. I am not the most powerful supernatural creature in the world.
Rufus is right on the Spellcaster’s the magic is there; they just need to find it again. They need to tap into their special power that will help them connect to the deepest part of the light in their souls.
In that light they need to find the strings that tie their magic to nature. All the Spellcaster’s seem to have lost that connection, yet it is what they use to weave spells. Why they lost the connection, I have no idea, but I am guessing that Abraham could be knowing the answer to that.” The spirit shared, extinguishing the little hope that Maureen had.
Rufus’s hope was reignited, now that he knew what the problem was, he figured that there was a solution.
“But.” Zephyra spoke again and everyone’s ears twitched. “All hope is not lost; there is a young Spellcaster that has been able to connect to the light inside her soul.” She informed them and watched as their faces perked up, filled with new hope.
Rekha lifted a finger, her eyes seeking for permission to speak. “I heard that all the Spellcaster’s lights or strings are intertwined like a plant and their leader controls its roots or he can feel them. How come Abraham doesn’t know about this Spellcaster? If he did, everyone at the academy would know because Abraham is very proud of his roots. He reminds all his students at the academy daily that if it was not for his ancestors, the war would have been lost.” She asked, interest in the matter surging.
The spirit had an answer for that question. “That is because Sabrina is not aware of what is inside her and she used to use her magic to play tricks on others. The annual academy search for gifted children is in two weeks I believe.
All children from founding families will be tested to know whether they will be students of the academy and potential guardians. Sabrina’s first test did not reveal anything special, and she never joined the academy,
Abraham did not discover that there was something special about her. I think that she should be tested again.”
“Sabrina?” They let out a shocked and uniform outcry except for Rufus who remained calm. Deep down he was also shocked, he knew Sabrina as a little troublemaker. He never thought that she would the first Spellcaster in a long time to awaken her true potential as a spellweaver.
Maureen moved her hands around, grasping at air as she weaved her thoughts together. “Sabrina Spellcaster!! As in the same girl that we are all thinking of! The Sabrina that has caused too many problems on the lane. The girl whose magic spell nearly killed Sarah Miller.”
“A spell that she wove accidentally. She does not even know what great power she has.” Phoebe muttered.
Nodding, the spirit chuckled. “She is a unique one our Sabrina for sure. She was left ignored by her parents and siblings which gave her the time to study magic on her own. Using the grimoire of her ancestors, she somehow managed to teach herself magic and grow her power and weave small spells.
Unfortunately, she used them all for mischief. You can use her instead of those people from the academy. Besides you do not know who to trust over there but Sabrina is our person. She will keep our secrets.” It advised, staring at Rufus to hear his opinion.
Rufus chewed on his lower lip, showing hesitation and worry. “She is young and this is dangerous. If she is not registered and she weaves a deadly spell, then we are breaking a supernatural law…..”
“To hell with your laws Rufus!” The spirit threw in. “I am certain that those moles at your school have broken plenty of them. No one will know unless you tell them. We are dealing with the potential annihilation of all our families, the end of Fog country and everything we fought for.
You told everyone that you needed fighters, well the same goes for me. I need fighters right now; I need soldiers that will follow all my instructions blindly. I do not need cowards or people that will hesitate because hesitation equals death.”
