Chapter 549: Zephyra commands.
There was a hierarchy in the room that was funny. When Rufus spoke sternly, everyone froze and listened. They addressed him as Sir and answered yes sir or no sir to his orders. When the Saxon spirit spoke sternly, Rufus behaved the same way. He froze and listened, nodding like a young child being chastised.
“You have grown soft Rufus.” The spirit sighed. In its voice, there was an audible disappointment.
The spirit realized that its expectations had been a little too high. Despite all the hunts Rufus had been involved in and all the supernatural battles he had fought, he had never dealt with something like Ravana.
He had never seen a supernatural war. It should not have been shocking that he was approaching everything at snail’s pace.
“I…I….” Rufus lowered his head in shame, struggling to answer.
The rest of the humans felt more uncomfortable.
“You need to get it together, Rufus. No hesitation, no second guessing yourself. Recover your powers, change the syllabus of the academy and train soldiers. Send the students out into the field more aggressively, especially to fight demons.
Create a magical fighting arena where they can fight against demons you conjure or create using magic. The more ruthless, the better. As long as the students do not die, they will learn.
Also, in this new round of testing blood to look for individuals with magical talents in the founding families, include commoners.”
Rufus gasped. He was not the only one in shock, Maureen, David and Rekha were. Commoners in the academy!! It was unheard of.
“Yes,” Zephyra bellowed.
The tower shook, books fell from shelves, plates cups and other things crushed to the floor in different kitchens. Dogs went crazy outside, barking loudly. As for Zephyra, her hair was flying in the wind and her eyes, they were as cold as ice.
“I am not requesting, I am ordering. Start tracing magic among commoners today, send paper men out to search high and low. When you find these individuals, search their souls for traces of evil. If it is found, get rid of them but if none is found then enroll them and pay their families heftily.
This is why the emergency fund of the council was created. It was not so that you idiots could build hotels and take vacations.”
Rufus winced. He was no among the people that used the fund to enjoy life.
“Am I clear?” Zephyra asked. Bolts of thunder darted across the sky.
Everyone in the room jumped, nervous because Zephyra could probably kill them within less than a second.
“Yes, yes…Oh my God, stop.” Phoebe intervened.
The others, including Rufus were quick to respond the same way. Zephyra calmed down and she was back to smiling as if she had not put on the most powerful display of power, they had all ever seen, outside of Phoebe summoning the storm.
“Sabrina.” Phoebe blurted out. “Let’s get back to her.”
Rufus patted his chest to calm his heart. “Yes, Sabrina. In order to awaken her ability and weave without staining the spell, she will need to tap into power of the crystals.”
Rekha questioned others could. “The crystals? What crystals and how do we get them? Is it the special crystals in the academy? They do not let anyone near the room where they are kept except for the guardians responsible for protecting them.” She arched an eyebrow.
Shrugging her words off, a smile suddenly tugged on Rufus’ lips. “That is not a problem because beneath this house is a large deposit of those same magical crystals with the purest light magic to exist.”
He raised an index finger to caution them. “No one outside this room should know of it, you do not know how much evil those that fight on the wrong side could do if they get their hands on crystals that possess such great power.” His voice trembled with unspoken anxiety.
“He is right, keep your mouths shut.” The spirit affirmed Rufus’ words. “It was me that decided to bury those crystals on these grounds. I could not trust anyone else to protect them. With the greed of humans, I always worried about what others would do if got their hands on them. This was after the supernatural war.
Before the war, Othello and his group were running around hunting for them in order to increase their powers. They had their own weavers, and they wanted to use the power of the crystals to weave deadly spells and bring devastation to the new country.
I made sure that every patriarch takes an oath to protect secret of the crystals with their lives. Upon the death of each patriarch, the knowledge of what is hidden beneath is passed on to the incoming head of the family.” It elaborated on the issue before questions would arise.
A low murmur of acknowledgement escaped Rufus. “Yes, I acquired all that knowledge and more through a dream, the night of my father’s sudden passing. I woke up with the pendant in my hand, it is the sign that the ancestors have recognized you as the rightful heir. Initially everyone thought that my older brother who was Dickson’s father would take over but no, I was chosen.” A regretful sigh left his lips. “He resented me for that until the day he died.” He concluded.
Silence hovered in the room for a few seconds, then Phoebe spoke. “That makes things easy then, because all we have to do is to take a few of them to Sabrina. The power will get funneled into her and she will tap into her light, find her strings and therefore weave the spell.” She made it sound simple, like she was stating the weather.

Letting out a long wince, Maureen rubbed her chin slowly. “And what if, just what if those crystals that we take from here get lost? Say something evil like a demon get their hands on it. I know it’s a long stretch, but it could happen because we have been infiltrated.” Her words painted the dark fantasy living rent free in her mind.
“Phoebe and I have a safe place where she can keep them and bring them out only when Sabrina needs them.” David informed them.
“Do not ask about it but David is right.” Phoebe quickly said.
“Sabrina needs as much energy as she can get remember spellweavers work in teams, yet she is an amateur that is going to deal with this on her own. We can’t give her one, two or ten crystals. She needs many because I need her to keep weaving new spells for the war as well…. just in case.” The Saxon spirit shared.
Maureen’s breath hissed out through clenched teeth. “So, what now? Do we bring her over here? I mean people would start to suspect that something is going on if she keeps coming to the tower often.” She leaned back in the heavily cushioned sofa.
“And as the keeper of those crystals I would never allow that girl near there. There is more down there that has to be jealously protected.” Rufus voiced out, his words got the listeners intrigued but no one questioned what it was that needed to be guarded jealously.
