Chapter 557: Ghost talk at a wedding.
Without denying, Rekha nodded. “He wants help with something, I did not get to hear him out because I do not care about anyone that comes from that family or anything they have to say” She turned her lips upside down, her eyes filled with contempt.

Obed had never reached out to her in life. Why stalk her in death? Wasn’t that selfishness and having an over inflated ego? What reason did she have to help the very people that did not even allow her to step foot on their burial grounds.

She had not so much as visited her parents’ graves or placed flowers there. The Montgomery’s were cruel, devious and cruel. Thinking of it made Rekha understand why Connie wanted to kill Cassie.

A sharp wrinkle creased Maureen’s nose as if she caught a whiff of something foul. “The next time he bothers you just shake your damn bells, chant a spell and poof! He will be gone. How shameless of him to come seeking for your help when he ignored you while he was still alive!” She tapped her glass as a waitress passed by, signaling a refill.

She pointed him to the barrels and then told him to just bring the entire barrel. Orson Saxon passed by the table, greeted everyone and winked at Maureen.

Her jaw dropped open and she looked around, hoping nobody had noticed. She was in luck; nobody had been looking.

As Orson left, they exhaled and embarked on looking around for Obed’s ghost in the mixture of humans and ghosts having a good time.

The ghosts were actually having a better time, some had formed a band, and they were singing, Silvester had provided wine and snacks, and they were having their own party. Phoebe was sure that two of them were running around naked.

Slowly, a frown made its way to David’s face as a thought crept its way into his head. “I do not understand this though.” The unplanned words tumbled out of him, earning him everyone’s attention. “The Montgomery house has a guardian, many hunters, a witch, three ghost catchers, name it if it involves the supernatural world on our side of the fence. So how come he did not seek help from them but instead he came to you? Is that not strange?” He posed a question so unexpected, it hovered in the air like a challenge.

Arrow stroked his beard, then came a slow nod of approval. His features reflected those of the entire group even Rekha who had not given it much thought. They were wearing the same frown as David currently, wondering if something devious was going on in the Montgomery backyard.

“Perhaps he does not want to be buried in those oak tree coffins that the Montgomery’s are usually buried in.” Evelyn shuddered on recalling the last Montgomery funeral that she attended. “They have the creepiest funeral customs. What are those masks that they wear when they are carrying the coffins and lowering them into the ground? I used to have nightmares about those things as a child.” She clutched her own waist like as though the cold winter air gushed by her.

“Don’t forget the humming, they are almost like zombies.” Maureen shuddered too. Evelyn was not the only one to have had nightmares after attending a Montgomery funeral.

The Saxon spirit concurred with Evelyn. “I won’t speak on the masks and humming but it is honestly weird that they plant the oak trees themselves, the Uptown royal college is filled with them.” It dipped a strawberry in runny chocolate before inserting it in its mouth. “It has been a century, maybe try some metal coffins or cherry or walnut. Add some gold, velvet or diamonds.”

Connie’s eyes flew wide open. “The uptown royal college! As in URC!!! The one where only kids from elite families go to?” She asked.

“That same one, it belongs to one family-the Montgomery’s.” Answered the spirit, before it could ask how Connie did not know, it remembered that she had loops in her memory and she was not one of them so they would never share such information with her,

The Montgomery’s did not make the knowledge of their ownership of the college public. A board run the school, and no Montgomery sat on that board. Nevertheless, they pulled the strings from behind.

“I applied and they rejected me!!” She exclaimed. “Now I know why.”

Sylvester had returned around the time when Orson winked at Maureen. He folded his arms and chimed in his opinion. “I used to think that they were good people before finding out about what they did to Rekha. I mean they sponsor hundreds of girls a year and offer them free education, but Edward paid for Rekha’s schooling? For crying out loud, the least they could have done is given her the fortune which belonged to her parents! or a place at that school.”

“From my experience, most times the most terrible people are those that do-good deeds especially in public.” America threw in.

America’s attention was caught between the conversation at the table and keeping an eye on Diana who was playing with the older female ghosts. They were teaching her curse words from the thirteenth and twelfth century.

America did not approve but they were ghosts, it wasn’t as if Diana would go and insult someone human.

Phoebe who had been contemplating on the matter deeply, let out a soft sigh. “There is something here, it could be useful to us.” She leveled her eyes to meet those of Rekha. “Do not push him away but rather send him to me.” She politely requested of Rekha, having hidden intentions for wanting to speak with Obed Montgomery.

“You cannot be seriously considering hearing him out! You know what they did to me.” Rekha snapped, her nails dug into her palms while a sense of betrayal gnawed at her.

Nodding her head slowly, a rueful smile formed on Phoebe’s lips. “I know this is hard on you we will help him only if he helps us. What if he has knowledge on Azur? Just wait and see before dismissing him completely.” She untangled the confusion, stitching logic with kindness.

David was on board with Phoebe. “Rekha,” he started slowly, “The last knowledge we have of Azur is him heading to the Montgomery manor. We need to know if that demon made it there and what he did. If you can, lay down your anger for a moment and consider the bigger picture.”

Rekha said yes but her knuckles whitened around the stem of the wine glass.

“Enough with this! Let us focus on enjoying the wedding.” Maureen spoke in a raised tone.

Evelyn shuddered like as though death itself traced its fingers around her spine. “This wedding is not a normal one with ghosts roaming around and all this Azur talk is not helping.” She mentioned glancing around, in as much as he loved Phoebe, she was yet to get used to her ghost friends.

She had certainly never been to a wedding where ghosts threw their own reception and a little ghost girl was shouting Pisse-mires, which meant piss-ants.

The world suddenly blurred around her and focused on the approaching figure coming towards their table. She had her own surprise for her friends.
