Chapter 558: A rather sudden engagement.

A frown creased the spirit’s brow, its eyes darted around as if in search of something. It sniffed the air like a hound, nostrils twitching every other second.

“Something stinks.” It spoke up.

“Must be Arrow’s breath.” Maureen joked.

Arrow silently exclaimed, he raised his hands and made a gesture that asked, “Why am I being pulled into this?”

Phoebe sniffed the air as well, mimicking the spirit. When David did the same thing, Maureen hissed at them. “Stop that you dummies, you are drawing attention to us. People will begin to think that this is the table were the weirdos are sitting.”

“Arrow’s red eyes are not helping, that ship has sailed.” Connie snickered.

Arrow called for a waiter to refill his glass with more alcohol. He could fight Maureen, but he could not the teenage ghost.

“I feel an energy shift, but I do not know what I am feeling exactly. Whatever it is, I don’t think it’s good news.” The Saxon spirit mumbled, a glint of worry crossed its eyes.

Blinking rapidly, Connie looked around eagerly. “Shit! You only say that when demons are lurking around so where is it?” She rubbed her hands excitedly.

The girl was curious to know which demon was bold enough to walk into a wedding where hunters were many in number.

“Shhh!” Hushed the spirit, it did not want the girl’s words to disrupt the wedding. Besides it was not sure whether it was a demon or something else entirely. All it was sure of was that something in the room smelled off “And watch your language, for a tiny girl you have a foul mouth. I told you not to say shit, fuck, ass, asshole.” It condemned strongly.

“So, Diana can say shit, but I can’t?” Connie quizzed.

The Saxon spirit smacked her on the back of the head. She cried out “Owww” and everyone laughed.

“Say it again, I dare you.” The Saxon spirit said to her. In its voice was a threat.

Connie folded her lips shut and sat down on the table, sulking.

“I cannot tell you how much I…..” Phoebe stopped herself. She almost said how much I missed this, but she did not want to arouse Connie’s curiosity on why her sass had been missed.

“This is the part where you call her an old witch and stomp your ghostly foot.” Maureen reminded Connie.

Connie just pouted more, and she looked at an approaching Evelyn along with everyone else. Evelyn had stepped away from the group a while back saying that she had seen someone she knew.

Now, she was with a man whose arm was wrapped tightly around her waist. It was not new for Evelyn to have a new man every month; however, this one was far different from the type of men that she dated.

Evelyn like tall, well built, athletic wealthy men yet this one was nothing like her usual boyfriends. For starters, his physical appearance was far from what they expected. He was short and chubby, they all wondered how he had managed to convince her to date him.

In fact, before dating, how had he convinced her to give him her phone number or go on a first date. The usual assumption people made when they saw a woman like Evelyn with a man like that was money. But Evelyn came from a wealthy family so it could not be money, it had to be something else.

Luna and Luke reached the table before Evelyn and her new beau. Mrs. Lucky Darling had stopped them for a word. Probably an introduction the new man she that she could share the gossip.

“Oh, dear lord, who is this one now?” Luna sized him up; she was done with entertaining Evelyn’s boyfriends after all they were temporary.

Phoebe nudged Luna in the ribs. “Do not be rude, he has a name, I am sure.” She bit her lower lip, trying not to laugh.

“They all have names, and I never remember those names. Do you recall the one she was dating last month? Chuck, Chong, Chimney, Chewey…all I remember is that his name started with a C.”

“It was Chimon.” The Saxon spirit shared.

“Aaaaah.” Everyone at the table responded.

“I give it a month…no two days tops. Look at him, he is the opposite of her type. She dates gym rats; he is allergic to the gym.” Arrow chuckled derisively, sipping all the alcohol left in the glass.

Evelyn walked in on them discussing her new man. She broke into a hearty laugh; she did not feel fazed by their negative remarks about her new relationship for she understood why they said what they did. “You all are just too hilarious, but I will be having the last laugh because I am going to marry him.” She fanned out her fingers so they could see her engagement ring.

For five breaths no one said anything, they just stared at Evelyn like she was crazy.

Then Luna let out a loud chuckle. “Come on guys, you all know Evelyn she is pulling our legs.” She dabbed the edge of her eyes.

“No, she is not.” Evelyn’s companion planted a kiss on the giant eight carat diamond ring. “Enigma Salazar, the man that is going to tie Evelyn down. It is a pleasure to meet you all.” He let out a laugh as if he had made a joke, but it fell flat.

Andre joined them while tugging at the bow around his neck. “Why the hell are people getting engaged out of the blue, first it was aunt Maureen now Evelyn next will be Luke…..”

A sneer grumbled in Luke’s chest. “Andre shut your damn mouth if you have nothing to say.” He threw him a warning look.

“How long have you two known each other? Two weeks?” Maureen asked, taking a guess.

Evelyn rolled her eyes. “Five actually but this is it, I can feel it.” She raised her eyes to the heavens as if to thank them.

“So can I. I can feel that this is a terrible idea.” Maureen spoke and then took a swig at her liquor.

Luna pointed at the ring. “So that is not some fancy piece of jewelry but a real engagement ring?” There was a sardonic edge to her question.

“Yes, I do not understand this reaction from you guys. You are my friends; you should congratulate me and be happy for me!” Evelyn shuffled her feet.

Enigma scoffed silently. “Honey your friends are as nice as you described them.” His judgmental eyes moved from one to another.

Afraid of getting on Evelyn’s bad side and disappointing their friend, they began to congratulate the newly engaged couple except for one person at the table whose frown was almost permanent like a tattoo: David.

“David? Are you going to remain silent?” Evelyn asked, her eyes as if seeking for his approval.
