Chapter 559: Identity of an enemy.

Stretching his hand, Enigma smiled warmly at David. “Mr. Saxon, your have no idea how thrilled I am to be meeting you today, First off I would like to offer my sincerest congratulations on your promotion, you are youngest Saxon to ever hold the position that you are in. I am in the health insurance business, the vice president of Unilever Health Group. We are in the same field of work; I hope that you and I will get along very well.” His speech was overzealous.

He handed David a business card which remained untouched as David appeared to still be in a daze.

He was not the first person at the wedding to offer David an enthusiastic greeting at the wedding. Almost everyone that had come by to greet him reacted in the same way. David had remained put in one place, using Phoebe as a shield to avoid hugs and handshakes.

To most of the people that had acted like Enigma, he had responded politely so his blank expression in this case that stunned them all. Worse than that, his eyes which were stone cold made them wonder what kind of enmity there was between David and Enigma.

“Unilever Health Group, that is in Silver nation, right?” Maureen asked to break the tension.

“Yes.” Enigma smiled. “We are expanding into Fog country now. We have actually been up and running for three months now, Roko insurance and Century Health insurance companies have been acquired by us.”

Arrow moved his eyes around, searching for anyone from the Carter family. Century insurance was their company. Since when did founding families start selling off their companies to outsiders?

David meanwhile was finally figuring out why Enigma Salazar looked quite familiar from the moment he had set his eyes on the man. At first, he could not place where he had seen him, but it did not take long before a memory from the past life made its way forward in his mind.

He and Enigma Salazar had crossed paths but back then, this man’s name was not Enigma Salazar. David could not recall what name he had been using but he could never forget those amber eyes. Then and now, the first thing he thought when he met the man was that he reminded him of a wolf–his eyes were predatory in nature.

His large belly and short stature made people think of a teddy bear, fearless and silly. When they saw him, they laughed the way that everyone at the table had done. But that was because they did not know the true nature of the man.

He was cunning and deceitful; he was one of the men that hang around Ruth in his past life. He had done many dirty jobs for her including killing many Saxons and disguising their deaths as accidents.

David had personally witnessed him drowning Nile in Salt Lake and he called the police. Then, he had been hit over the head and when he woke up three days later, Nile had been buried, and his death had been ruled as an accidental drowning which occurred as a result of a sudden heart attack.

David had protested that result, but it was all in vain. At the time, Dickson had control over the Saxon group, and he used his power to stop the police from looking into the matter. Enigma was back but this time he was approaching him as Evelyn’s fiancé. Indeed, changing the past had changed the future they were in.

Could it be that Ruth was already on the move now that she was truly back as Phoebe suspected? Her plan was probably different too because she could not marry him so their enemies had decided to infiltrate, he and Phoebe’s close circle starting with Evelyn. They were probably up to their same old tricks, trying to infiltrate the founding families.

David looked around and wondered who else at this wedding was an enemy of their families. He had already figured that Bradley was one. The fact that Bradley and Enigma were both from Unilever Health Group is what made him suspect so. What plan did they have? His mind buzzed with unanswered questions.

“David?” Evelyn let out a laugh filled with unease. “Are you going to ignore my fiancé’s gesture indefinitely?” She asked, eyebrows knitting together in irritation.

Placing the desert fork on the table, Phoebe who had noticed that David had lost himself in his thoughts subtly stroked his thigh under the table, silently calling for his attention.

“Babe? Are you alright?” She inquired, the sweetness of her voice pulling him back to reality.

David feigned a light cough, taking a sip on some water. “Sorry, excuse my manners.” His voice was courteous; it scarcely reflected the unrest he felt within. He had come to make a quick decision not to attack Enigma. For now, it was better not to alert him and his accomplices that he was onto them. In fact, he was going to have Enigma followed, it was he or Bradley that were going to lead him to Ruth and whoever was pulling the strings.

He made a mental note to tell Roxanne to dig into Unilever Health and see who else from that company was involved with someone from the founding families in any capacity.

Grasping Enigma’s extended hand, David shook it vigorously. “Congratulations to you both. It is nice to finally see the man that can tame our Evelyn. She is not an easy one and I doubt that you know what you are signing up for. Run before she asks you to accompany her on a shopping spree.” His words came with a strained laugh.

“Was that his attempt at humor?” Connie scoffed, folding her arms. Her reservations were similar to those of the humans.

The spirit arched an eyebrow. “More like an attempt to get Mr. Enigma to run from Evelyn.” It answered, studying David who seemed very uncomfortable.

In response to David’s words, Enigma let out a soft chuckle. “I know Evelyn’s past and it does not matter to me. It is the future that matters.” He yanked Evelyn against him and kissed her fiercely. He almost swallowed her entire face and some people at the table turned away for they were grossed out.

A delicate human vibrated in Phoebe’s tummy. “That is icky sticky!” Star complained.

“Turn away and do not watch the adult stuff. I forbid it.” Phoebe ordered silently, placing her hands on her tummy in the hope that she had covered Star’s eyes.

A tiny hmph came from Star. “No mother, it is icky sticky because that man is either working with a demon or he is one, I am not sure because there is something shadowing him to hide that part of him using some very powerful magic but I am more powerful. My vote is demon.” She revealed.
