Chapter 562: Conversation takes a turn.
Meanwhile, Abraham had been gripped by terror, he was trembling so hard, even his teeth clicked uncontrollably. The way he was shivering, it almost seemed like winter had been invited into the basement and it was attacking only him. “We are going to die!” He wailed, freaking out completely and unexpectedly. “You have all read the tales and heard the stories about the first supernatural war.

How people’s flesh was torn to pieces by demons, their blood was sucked by demonic creatures. Souls were snatched, there was an attempt to open the gates of hell and turn earth into a home for demons. People lost their mind to evil and did all sorts of disgusting thinks like murders, rape, cannibalism. This is bad, this is so bad. I don’t wanna die.” The words stumbled out of him.

Now wonder the Saxon ancestor was troubled, if everyone was like Abraham then they were doomed indeed.

“For someone who is supposed to be the leader of a powerful group of witches_ the spellweavers specifically, you are truly spineless Abraham! I can see why the Spellcasters have not made any progress ever since you took the helm of the family. You can piss yourself on your own time Abraham, we do not need timid leaders right now because we do not have a lot of time to strengthen our armies.” Rufus released a weary sigh of exasperation. “If you cannot do your role then I will be forced to choose another Spellcaster that can do the job.” His words were a threat so obvious that it left no room for skepticism.

The threat hung in the air, electric and suffocating. They were all aware that Rufus was not joking and he would act on his words. Old man Lee was more than sure that Rufus already had a Spellcaster in mind for that position.

However, Abraham did not like to hear it, a dark heat prickled under his skin, adrenaline turning his blood into fire. “How dare you threaten me, Rufus! You just got back into office and the first thing you did was make enemies everywhere. Lee and I are the only friends that you have left in that academy yet all you do is blame us for being incompetent?” He snarled pointing an index finger to his chest. “You will dismiss me? Who then will lead the spellweavers? Do you know the burden of safeguarding and monitoring the strings of all spellweavers?” He hauled himself up with a grunt. “Obviously you have no loyalty at all to me old friend, so I am out of here.” He spoke through curled lips, teeth bared like those of a wolf.

Rufus only scoffed, he knew that he had hurt Abraham’s pride, but he was not there to soothe anyone’s ego. “A moment before you storm off Abraham, I wanted to ask you a question.” He leapt upright, adrenaline over ridding fatigue. “Why is it that the spellweavers cannot tap into the light in their souls? What happened? A little bird whispered that you might know something about that, so what happened Abraham? Give me the answers or I will force them out of you, old friend or not.” He grilled him, each question sharper than the last.

Forcing out a laugh, one that was tight and unconvincing, Abraham’s fingers tapped on his thigh relentlessly. “Are you accusing me of something Rufus? Why doesn’t that surprise me? That is all you seem to do these days, make unproven accusations everywhere.” He snapped; his voice edged with contempt.

Rufus remained stoic, his quest for answers unchanging. With what they were going to face, he had no room for softness. If Abraham refused to surrender the answers, he would search his mind forcefully.

Rufus Saxon preferred mind searches to truth telling talismans. Even though mind searches were dangerous, he could witness for himself the truth and see it without a single thing being omitted.

“Sit down Abraham.” Rufus ordered.

“Are you ordering me as the dean or a friend?” Abraham questioned.

The air crackled with invisible sparks from both men. If they had swords in their hands, they would be drawn already.

Old man Lee intervened with a raised hand, his voice steady with command. “Enough Abraham! No one is accusing you of anything. Rufus only asked a question because someone told him that you know something about what is happening to the spellweavers. We want to help you so why are you taking offense. Do you have something to do with it? Did you do something stupid Abraham? If you are innocent just prove it and let us move on to bigger matters like how to capture Azur.” He raised his voice and slapped the table, causing it to crack.

Abraham pinched his brows deeply, his already tense shoulders tensed up even more. He flung his hands into the air and jutted an accusing finger at old man Lee. “Of course you are taking his side unquestionably, I am not even surprised that you would stand with him. If there was a prize for licking Rufus and Cillian’s asses, you would win Lee. It was always the three of you and I was an extra that you let tag along out of pity. Well, save your pity, I can handle this on my own.” Abraham walked away without another word, their confusion ringing in the silence behind him.

“There he goes again.” Rufus sighed.

If there was a prize for the most dramatic friend in their group, Abraham was it. He was weak and spineless, so they often left him behind when they went out on hunts for his own good. When they let him tag along, they had to keep an eye on him at all times which delayed them and caused a few injuries. Nevertheless, they had carried him along because he was a friend and brother and when they became guardians, so did he, thanks to their efforts.

Abraham had never been able to shake off his feelings of inferiority and they were still dominant to date.

Shaking his head, old man Lee let out a heavy sigh. “Having known Abraham for many years I can tell that he knows something for sure. I will go and knock some sense into him after all we need the spell weavers if we are to go up against these demons.” He excused himself.

Edward’s weary palm dragged from forehead to chin. “Wow! It must be hard being you Uncle Rufus.” He commented. “However, I hope you understand that I also have questions on my own like how did you find out about all this? My father especially. Who is this informant that said he is alive and why didn’t they come to me?” He asked, taking a seat.

“The informant lives under your roof son; it is none other than your daughter Phoebe.” Rufus answered.
