Chapter 582: A destiny of death.
Moving her index finger from side to side, Maureen’s face disapproved greatly. “Tsk_tsk_tsk, not so fast. We have fulfilled half of the deal already by liberating your body. Even if the Montgomery’s track it to this place, they will not get past David’s army of armed gunmen and warlocks.” She gave David a look that said, “Yes, I noticed those three warlocks that are disguised as your everyday common bodyguards.”

Maureen crossed her arms on her chest and stared firmly at Obed. “Tell us about this demon that was about to eat your soul or whatever or else I will personally deliver this body back to the Montgomery mansion and let you become demon chow.”

“I am with her. We don’t want to be blindsided by some demon going after us for denying it your soul.” Rekha added.

Everyone in the room was on board and Obed realized his desperation which reeked had to be put on the back burner. His body was safe for now anyway.

“Alright.” he managed a grumble.

Before Obed could answer, a different sound attracted everyone’s attention. Coughing sounds came from inside the coffin, the brides to be were awake. They sat up slowly, in a daze which they came out of as they looked around their new surroundings.

“Is this the veil?” One of them asked.

“No, you are still on earth, in good old Fog country.” Maureen told them.

They realized that they had not been buried, and a chorus of shattered sobs suddenly escaped from both of their mouths. It was accompanied by questions.

W-why are we not dead? Why? What happened? Can’t you bury us again? Why did you do this to this, hurry and put us back in the ground.

The girls wailed with disappointment; one even looked around for something she could use to kill herself and the other pleaded that the lid of the coffin be put back.

“This is weird.” Andre whispered to Maureen.

“I know.” she answered.

Those watching were alarmed by their cries and astounded by their reactions. Were these girls not supposed to be grateful that they had been brought back from the jaws of death? They should have been trying to hug their saviors or kneeling down and praising God. And yet, it seemed to be the opposite.

“If I say that I am not confused then I would be lying!” Grandma Mayfair lightly clutched her head, dizzy as the world around her seemed to whirl.

Maureen handed her a chocolate bar and urged her to sit down.

David meanwhile was trying to work out the reasons as to why the women were troubled. “Perhaps this whole experience has messed with their heads because no sane human will beg to be buried alive. They will need to be checked into a mental hospital for counseling and rehabilitation.” He proposed.

He ordered Roman to send in people to take away the women that were sobbing inconsolably. Their arrival only made it worse. When his men tried to help the trembling women out of the coffin, there cries increased in volume, tearing through the air.

The sound was comparable to that of starved gulls: high-pitched, desperate, aggressive and repetitive. They fought desperately against the men, scratching and kicking.

“Hold still.” Sean growled out.

The woman he was helping looked into his eyes instead, opened her mouth even wider and screamed more.

“Fuck this, just leave them in the coffin!” Maureen bellowed. “And you two banshee wannabees should do us all a favor and shut the hell up or else I am going to deliver that death you want but in a slow painful manner lasting ten or twenty years. Maybe I will put you in a medically induced coma for the rest of your lives so you will be dead but alive at the same time. I will see to it that you live to a ripe old age.” Maureen threatened, covering her ears. If they continued to scream her ear drums were on the brink of bursting.

Terrified and disoriented, the girls fell into an abrupt silence, but they continued to sob, silently though.

“You are so cool.” Andre gushed.

Maureen pushed his face away, slapping her right ear that was still ringing. “So, why are you two morons trying to die?”

“Where are we? How are we here and why?” One of the women stared at Obed’s body that lay in the coffin with what could have been constituted to be a loving gaze.

“Get the hell out of my coffin.” Obed bellowed.

This time, when the women were helped out, they were calmer. They were led to the chairs and made to sit down.

“You are in a place where the Montgomery’s cannot hurt you anymore, first calm down and relax you are safe now.” Rekha answered taking the initiative to draped them with heavy blankets that Roman had brought over.

“Please get them some hot drinks as well Sean.” Phoebe requested politely before she turned to her aunt. “What are we dealing with here?” A whisper crept out.

Maureen expelled air out of her mouth. “We should ask them directly.” She crouched near where the girls sat. “So, ladies, what is going on here? I believe that you should be singing our praises instead of glaring at us….”

“Praises?” One of the women cut in. “Do you know what you have done? We were supposed to escort master Obed to the afterlife, but you have ruined it all.” She burst into tears once again.

Obed floated forward. “I already told you that these girls are groomed for this, they sign their lives away. Their crazy mission is to serve us in life and in death and in our next lives.”

“Is that true?” Phoebe bobbed her head in the women’s direction “Did you agree to this?” She demanded to know.

The woman that had cried the most smudged a tear with the back of her hand. “Yes, we did, and you should not have taken us away from there, how did you even do it? How did this happen? You had no right!!” Her tone was gravely condemning.

Ignoring her questions, Phoebe pulled her brows together. “Why would you do that? In exchange for what? What did the Montgomery’s promise to give you in exchange of your lives.” She probed.

“Money of course.” Maureen chimed in and waited for the girls to deny the claim, but they did not.

“This is not just about the money! Our families are sorted out too. If all it takes for my family to live a good life is for me to sacrifice myself then I would gladly do that again. People like you would never understand such a great sacrifice. Now take us back so that we can fulfill our destinies.” Her voice left no room for debate.

Maureen’s tongue clicked in a taunting tch, tch, tch. “It is already too late for those young ladies, by now the funeral has already been canceled. The news must be everywhere that your masters body disappeared mysteriously.” She added a sarcastic laugh to her words.

“Actually, there is no news of that kind anywhere in fact, the funeral progressed and Obed Montgomery was buried.” Roman flashed his phone at Maureen.
