Chapter 637: Hidden human bones.
Maureen who was returning after a conversation with cleaners that could not share anything with her as they had signed iron clad non-disclosure agreements hastened her steps. “Did I hear you say human bones? Ha! Of course he is hiding something, they always do. I told you Phoebe, the super freaky rich always have secrets.”

She clenched her fists, knuckles turning white as she pinned her glare on Mahone. “Spill it….no, no let us find these damn bones first.” She marched off but paused when she realized that she did not know where this store was. “Is nobody going to show us the way?”

“Move it!” Rekha jolted Mahone out of the trance like state he had dived into. She pushed him forward roughly, surprising those that were curiously watching them.

He was a well-known CEO, heading a multibillion-dollar company. How could she shove him as if her was son that had been caught engaging in mischief on a playground?

Mahone Rice gestured at security to send everyone out of the building. They would come up with an excuse to keep them there.

He scurried to the elevator. “Listen I know how this looks but I swear to God that I know nothing about it. I am going to call the local sheriff right now and the mayor. I think that I should also call the police chief and the…” He began only for Maureen’s scoff to cut him off.

“We are the real deal asshole; you don’t need to call your friends in high places to help because they can’t help you with this. The ghost that is haunting this place will tell us everything that you are hiding or what we need to know.” She snapped at him.

Wiping dripping sweat, Janice stared at her boss, keeping a safe distance from him. Was he a murderer? Would she be silenced for knowing too much? She wondered.

Poor Janice’s stomach tightened as she became more and more nervous. What did she know about ghosts? What if it possessed her or something? She wanted to turn back but the elevator was already moving down, there was no stopping it.

Mahone bobbed his head nervously. “Look, fine, I will come out with it and tell you what I did.”

Maureen’s smirked. Her entire demeanor screamed, ‘I told you so.’ Phoebe was thinking Mahone was lucky that Shark was not with them, or he would have slapped handcuffs on the man already.

“I did not kill anyone.” He said in a nervous voice.

“But…” Rekha encouraged him to get it out.

“All I did was hide the bones when we found them during construction. I could not report to the authorities because then the project would have been paused and yet I had a deadline to beat. I did not know what to do with them so I locked them away and planned to dispose them off, but I forgot! I am a busy man you know.” He explained, eyes widening that his whites showed.

“Dispose them off?” Rekha re-echoed; disgust etched on her features. “You could not even be bothered to find out whose bones they were or even give the person a proper burial. I bet you did not even cleanse the building when you opened it up for people to move in.”

Maureen sneered. “Busy my ass.” She rolled her eyes as she quickly jumped off the elevator, one more minute in there with Mahone and his face was going to meet her clenched fist. How could someone forget about human bones? That was the kind of thing that kept people up at night.

When you consider the fact that this building was being marketed to the wealthiest of the wealthy, it made even less sense. How could he forget about human bones resting in a hidden room in this multi-million dollar building?

She still did not trust the man and she would not until confirmation was received that he was not the murderer.

They reached the hidden room and Mahone scanned his irises, and fingerprints. The door was opened, leading to a room that housed a few tools just as he had said.

With Star being the guide, Phoebe walked to the only steel case that was locked. It was so strong as if made to keep whatever was inside in there. “You planned all this, to keep those bones hidden. There is no way you forgot especially with people saying that this place was haunted.” She shook her head, disapprovingly.

“He is wicked just like his ancestors.” An unfamiliar voice sounded beside them.

They all turned except for the humans who heard nothing.

“Are you the owner of the bones inside?” Phoebe asked, her voice warm as she faced the pale ghost.

It was the ghost of a woman. She wore a pale pink floral decorated gown from the ancient era. Phoebe’s heart sank on seeing blood stains around the ghost’s bulging stomach. The woman had been pregnant at her time of death.

One thing was for sure, Mahone could not have killed her because he was not that old. Unless he was like Othello, which he wasn’t. He was all human, a greedy capitalist that was all human.

Tapping Phoebe’s shoulder, Mahone asked her whom she was talking to. Phoebe responded by giving him and Janice the ability to see the ghost.

Mahone and Janice flew back, never in their lives had they seen something so horrifying. A scream was wrenched from the back of Mahone’s throat, he looked ready to faint.

“That is the thing that has been haunting this tower?” Janice managed to ask in a shaky voice, while trying to get away her boss who was hiding behind her back, using her like a shield.

No doubt, if someone was shooting at them, he would use her as a shield then as well.

Maureen gave a dry cough and looked away from Mahone after rolling her eyes. She was sure that Sean would never be such a coward that he would hide behind a woman in the face of danger.

Maureen looked at the ghost and she exhaled. “What happened? Did his forefathers do this to you?” She asked in a softer voice.

As if the ghost had been waiting for centuries to tell someone about its plight, it eagerly answered. “Yes! The Rice men are pure evil, I should have ended their lineage centuries ago, but I could not because I did not want to kill innocent people. All I wanted was someone to dig out my bones and bury me, but did that happen, NO! That idiot just hid them and forgot me down here. I was so angry that I decided no one will live in this building as long as I remain stuck here.” The ghost answered.

Mahone blinked rapidly, his mind swirling with questions. “I am sorry, okay? I really am but which of the rice men are you calling evil? My grandpa, great grandpa, uncles? Who? I don’t even know who you are.” He quizzed through a shaky voice from behind Janice’s back.

“Now you want to know. Is that because I am making you lose money?” The ghost bit back, very sassy.

“Forget him, talk to us.” Maureen encouraged it.

It huffed and turned back to the ghost hunters. “My name is Latoya Bergman; this place was my home before the men from the rice family connived to have me and my husband killed such that they can take our lands.” She increased the pitch of her voice as she made the accusation.
