Chapter 642: Final preparations.
Nothing seemed out of the ordinary at the founding Council headquarters store where Azur worked, all they found were stationary, toilet paper, extra chairs and desks, white boards and other things used in the office. The only thing that was iffy were two dead mice in the corner.

Maureen and Rekha returned home after the inspection, reporting the news to Phoebe who had stayed back at the insistence of Ramiel and Zephyra.

The spirit and the angel told her that she had to forge weapons that could take down such a powerful demon with one hit. Every human that was going to face Azur needed one. In case Phoebe was neutralized, the others could keep striking.

Phoebe thought that the bullets could do but according to Ramiel, high ranked demons were different from ordinary ones.

“There was nothing there and everyone had nothing but good things to say about this Pontius.” Maureen reported, sinking into one of the heavily cushioned sofas in Phoebe’s room. “You would think that they would mention the oddness which Uncle Rufus mentioned but there was none of that.”

Rekha twisted her nose sideways. “Some people do not even remember who he was, they were surprised when they saw his picture and realized that he used to be their co-worker. For people that bullied him, they could not even recall his name. It was ridiculous, most refereed to him as the store guy.” She added folding her arms.

Phoebe couldn’t tell what it was that Rekha found to be most ridiculous. Perhaps it was the fact that one of the most feared demons in the supernatural realm was just ‘the store guy’ to most humans. It made him sound like a loser, a demon unworthy of her rage.

If he had been passing off as a powerful human sitting in a very powerful position of power, the take down would be more surprising.

“Unrelated topic, is the founding castle going to throw their annual winter ball?” Maureen asked.

“Now!” Phoebe exclaimed. “Surely they know that this is the wrong time for a ball. It is supposed to be on the same day as the blood moon. It would be foolish of the council to do so.”

“Foolishness is what the council thrives on.” Rekha was certain that the ball would be thrown.

“There is the annual spring gala a week later. Can’t they wait for that? We will all be safer until the next blood moon comes and by then, we will be dead, and it will be a problem for another generation Why do we have to celebrate the beginning and end of every season anyway?” Phoebe mumbled.

“Because the founders were idle and loved to dance…..I don’t know.” Maureen shrugged. “Let us just decide. If the ball is thrown, are we going or not?”

Phoebe closed the book that she was reading.”Of course we are going, it will be at the council headquarters on the day of the blood moon. Where else will we be?”

Flashing onto the open window seat suddenly, Ramiel furled his wings which became one with his body. “We have no choice but to focus on other things until the day of the blood moon. I have a few friends watching the founding Council building for now, now take me back in there we have weapons to make.” He jutted his chin towards her invisible pendant.

“Where? Take him back to where?” Maureen asked, intrigue setting in. She was not staying back if they were going somewhere fun. And as they were discussing weapons, she wanted to go.

Phoebe wasted no time in explaining but rather transported them all into the space.

“The holy book of saints and angels! Where are we? Is that mountain of gold?” Maureen asked because she saw gold laying at the foot of a glowing mountain, and gold nuggets dropping out, mined by paper men. She stretched her hand in its direction only for Connie to bat her hand away.

“Mind what you touch dear aunt, there consequences to stealing from this place.” She warned Maureen who took offense at her words.

“I am no thief little girl. I can afford to buy myself a mountain of gold. Now, can someone give me a tour of this place and explain what it is?”

“It is a small world, something I picked up.” Was all Phoebe said.

She asked Connie to give Maureen and Rekha a tour of the space then went off to weapon productions room. Ramiel had already beaten her there and he was looking at the latest weapons that had been forged.

“These are arrows and bullets forged in the ashes of angel feathers and their pure tears; no demon can survive them.” The spirit revealed.

Phoebe picked one arrow with her right hand and studied it. “And you are certain that this will bring down Azur and Ravana. We need to be ready just in case she somehow finds a way to come out of her prison?”

The spirit and Ramiel traded gazes, uncertainty crossing their eyes. This had never been done before and the night of the blood is said to be one where powers both good and bad are at their strongest. Both of them were worried that the baby grand guardian was not ready to take on the task she had been born to fulfill.

“They have to work, our worry should be on who shoots the target, they should be unwavering physically and mentally. High rank demons tend to play mind games, those that are weak might turn these weapons on themselves or their fellow guardians and hunters. ” The spirit snatched the arrow from Phoebe and put it back in the case with the others.

Star let out a loud and heavy sigh. “So, we are at the mercy of the shooters? Not on my watch.” She said with grit,

“Ah…so she talks.” Ramiel said curiously.

Phoebe and the spirit were not even surprised that he could hear the baby. They continued to work while Star engaged in a conversation with Ramiel.

In the days that followed, the hunters and guardians spent all their time training themselves. The academy was half a training ground and half a weaponry. They created other things which seemed minor but held great importance like invisible cloaks. Azur would not even know that they were so many hunters waiting for him.

They made soul lamps that would guide them to find each other in case Azur distorted space. They made fire bolts infused with holy fire, created armor that could absorb dark magic.

Rufus even brought out a special weapon, the lantern of judgement which could reveal demonic weaknesses and expose their true form. Demons would not be able to hide and disguise themselves as part of the hunting group.

Slowly Rufus began to fill the headquarters with hunters from the academy wearing faces of the usual employees, access was denied to anyone that was not from Rufus’s camp.

There was less talk during that time, the air in the founding lane had changed. Laughter was still there but it was not as vibrant as it used to be. Every home was protected strongly with Phoebe’s talismans. The families knew what was to come and they were scared. Nevertheless, they remained hopeful. There was a grandguardian, all would work out in the end.

By the day the eve of the blood moon arrived, they were all ready and they were patrolling the council headquarters under the disguise of preparing for the winter ball.
