Chapter 643: The battle begins.
“We are ready to engage that monster Azur.” Rekha pursed her lips; she could not wait to take vengeance on the creature being that she was among the chosen shooters meant to take down Azur. “You do not have to worry about me shooting him, I will use all the hatred that I have to shoot him tomorrow.” Her gaze traveled to the roof where a couple of hunters sat, invisible to the naked eye.
David nodded. “My team and I will keep an eye out on the outside; we will all come out of this alive.” He pulled Phoebe closer and kissed the top of Phoebe’s head, all they could all do now was pray.
Inside the building, others were sitting around a campfire, ghosts and humans alike. The few balloons that they had managed to blow were sitting on the empty floor. The entire building had been emptied of everything in preparation for the final battle.
Arrow was roasting marshmallows for a weepy Evelyn. All the other couples were holding hands or leaning against each other. Saxon’s Mayfair’s Lee’s Spellcaster’s and different members of different families that were close to the group or part of them were all there. Maureen had even brought Sean who was holding her beer.
Food had been distributed but nobody had the stomach to eat.
The fire crackled and something popped.
Everybody was spooked and they drew their weapons.
“It’s just the phoenix wood.” Luna shared.
They relaxed again, but not fully.
“Think we’ll make it?” Evelyn blurted out, voice cracking slightly as she tightened her hands around Arrow’s right arm.
Maureen snorted. “That depends on how many stupid things we do tomorrow.”
The other chuckled, but no one gave a real answer. Nobody could promise victory because hunters didn’t make promised the weren’t sure they could keep. The promise Rufus had made to Chief Cunningham was eating him alive.
David and Rekha rejoined them. He went to Phoebe’s side and joined their hands immediately.
“What were you all talking about?” He asked the group.
“Tomorrow.” Sean replied gruffly.
Edward stood, rolling his shoulders, staring into the fire. He raised the beer in his hands and said, “No matter what happens tomorrow, we fight, we bleed, we live-if we are lucky.” His voice was rough, worn but steady.
Rufus raised his hand and released a surge of magic, it shot out and entered the statue of the last grad guardian, giving off a bright light that flooded the founded lane. It could be seen from far and those who knew what it meant got the message.
A gong was sounded, and then a bell rung. One bell turned into two, three, four, five, all through the country at every hunter station far and near. When the last bell rung, all the hunters, far and wide, raised their voices in unison and repeated the same words as Edward. “We fight, we bleed, we live–if we’re lucky.”
It was the hunter’s code, the oath they swore when they joined any school of magic and joined the life of hunting.
“And we will be lucky.” Phoebe whispered.
They sat together until the fire burned out, checking their weapons dozens of times and when morning came, they went home to hug their loved ones, hopeful that this would not be the final hug.

Strange occurrences began to happen on the day of the blood moon, nothing like what they had expected. The day began with the singing of birds and appearance of the sun, brighter than usual for the last winter day.
“This is a sign that it is going to be a good day.” Luna commented as she passed around cups of coffee. Her intention for saying those words was to ease up the tension. Lack of sleep plus anxiety was never a good combination when heading into a fight, she knew that well.
They were all seated in one of the lower-level conference halls, which was the pathway that led to where Ravana was imprisoned, invisible hunters roamed all over the place. With such tight security, there was no way for Azur to get to the crypt unless he teleported into it which was also impossible.
Phoebe who had been resting on Zephyra’s shoulder massaged her tummy, worried about her baby and herself. She prayed that the space would fulfill her wish.
“It will be fine; all you have to do is get through this alive.” The spirit brought her closer.
The waiting continued, and the longer it dragged on, the more nervous everyone became. At around 12:00pm that same day, the golden sun darkened into a crimson stain across the sky.
“Uhm…guys!” Amon who was seated by the window saw the changes first. “It is happening sooner than we thought.” He rushed out to alert the rest.
They all rushed to witness for themselves, watching as the day turned to a dark red night, something that they had never seen before.

“I thought this would be happening at night.” Someone shouted.
“May the heavens help us all.” Rufus made the sign of the cross.
“He’s here!” Star alerted Phoebe who told the rest.
Even though they had prepared over and over for this moment, anxiety crept into their bones like never before.
“Positions everyone.” Rufus screamed.
Dark smoke started to rise from the ground, it filled the air, moving like a slithering snake and yet no demon in sight. The smoke was empty, it ranked of evil, but it was empty.
One smoke tendril turned into ten, twenty and thirty. They lit sage and sprinkled holy water to do away with it. Meanwhile, others were already searching for Azur but three hours later he was nowhere in sight.
“But he is here! Star may be a baby, but she is the grandguardian and if she says that he is here then he is!” Phoebe clenched on her tightening chest, suddenly struggling to breath.
“Mother let me take over briefly.” Star told her mother.
“No.” Phoebe refused. She was keeping her daughter right where she was, no matter what happened.
Ramiel nodded. “I can also feel the presence of great evil around, let us go to where this crept is. At least we know that he is heading there.” He suggested.
“There are hunters there already, keeping watch but let us do as Ramiel says.” Rufus asserted
He spared Phoebe a glance and noticed her eyes were glowing gold. It seemed Star had taken over already.
The eyes then changed to pure white, emitting a white light. “He is underground, Azur dug a tunnel through which he accessed the crypt. Those hunters are all dead and he has already taken out the heart of the pure person.” Star spoke through Phoebe. Then, she chanted a spell which plucked them from the air and deposited them to the steel doors of the shadowed crypt.
Azur had not managed to get inside it seemed.
Just like Star had told them, there was a hole through the ground which he had used as the entrance. Close to where he stood was the dead pure human whose bleeding heart was clenched in the demon’s hand. The dead girl was laying on the cold ground which had strange symbolic drawings.
“You son of a bitch.” Rekha shot at the demon that was now in its true form. He ducked away; the bullet hit the rocky wall behind him. They all shot at the demon which unfurled its invisible shield that protected it.
“Aim for the horns.” Phoebe aimed and took a shot at one with Star’s energy, it shattered, and he let out a toe-curling scream before vanishing.
He was gone truly, this they knew.
“Where, where the hell is he?” Rekha lunged a kick at the air, her eyes darting around in search of him and growling like a mad beast.
Ramiel folded his arms. “Perhaps he fled, he doesn’t have much time, the blood moon will not stay here for long. I will go and watch.”
No sooner had he left when Azur returned in his human form, he was not alone for he had a hostage with him, David.
