Chapter 783: Establishing a Binoy Research Instute (2/3)
“Everyone knows that the smallest individual particle which makes up physical matter is called Kanda (Atom). It is the movement of charges through Khandas which I call Vidyut.”
“All of us have been taught from a young age that lightning is the dominion of God King Indra and it is his power, but we have not been able to scientifically study it. But now I have the answer.”
“Lightning is a bolt of energy generated by energized Khandas in the clouds, which is attracted by an opposite charge of Khanda on the ground, sort of like a magnet where negative and positive attract each other.”
“In order to prove this, I set up metal poles stuck on top of the hill next to the university so that they could attract the lightning. Seeing as how the lightning was attracted by the metal pole, I think my theory was correct. Also, in order to further confirm my other suspicions, I tied the two poles together with multiple metal and non-metallic strips and observed a variety of changes.”
“Some metals melted while others did not. This goes to show that the energy which I have discovered is capable of producing heat. I also saw a few bright sparks, which means that it is capable of generating light. I also saw that some metals did not melt at all, just some darkening, which means that this energy flows through different materials differently.”
“Overall, I have summarized in my thesis that electricity is a form of force that follows the same principles of force that Rishi Kanad had thought of.”
“In my research, I suddenly got an epiphany that allowed me to apply a principle I observed from the conversion of lightning to heat and light to all other different energies we see in our day-to-day world, whether it is fire, sound, pressure, or anything else. It is my observation that all these forms of energy are being transferred from one form to another and not being created or destroyed.”
“For example, if a piece of paper is burned, it is a common assumption to think that the paper is being destroyed. However, according to my theory, the Kandas (Atoms) in the paper already hold energy—it’s just that the energy is too stable. But with the introduction of heat, the Kandas become unstable, and they quickly transform into heat and light, leaving behind the residue of carbon.”
“Taking another example, we humans are not bodies with unlimited energy. Rather, the energy stored in food is being converted into biological or chemical energy that our bodies can use to sustain themselves. There are many such examples like this, which I have stated in my thesis.”
“It is after this observation that I was able to propose the theory of energy conservation, which states that ‘energy can neither be created nor destroyed, but it can transform from one form to another.’
He finally stopped writing on the board. He was hesitating to turn around at first; he really wanted to leave the stage. But he knew that the thesis defence could only be successful after all the people in the scientific community were convinced, so he had to stay back and answer the questions.
“With that being said, if anyone has questions, please ask.”
A deafening applause erupted from the crowd, and almost everyone in the auditorium stood up. Binoy was immediately embarrassed—he did not know what to do or where to place his hands and legs. As a last resort, he turned back and acted as if he were correcting a spelling mistake on the board, but in reality, he was just wiping off a word and rewriting it again. Fortunately, the applause only lasted for a few minutes before the scientific community, unable to contain their excitement, jumped up from their seats to have their doubts cleared.
“What is the limit of your theory of energy conservation?”
“Are you saying that gravity is also a sort of energy? Then why can it not be converted into another type of energy?”
“This Vidyut you speak of—apart from lightning, can we observe it in other forms as well? For example, on rare occasions, when our body rubs against certain surfaces, we get a sensation of a sting when touching metal objects. Could it be correlated?”
Soon, a barrage of questions was asked by the scientists of the scientific community, to which he answered calmly, one by one. During the answering session, he felt a lot better since all the questions were related to physics and mathematics, which he was very good at.
When the thesis defence was coming to an end, a Reporter, whom he didn’t know was a reporter at that time, asked him, “What inspired the idea that lightning could also be another form of energy? Could you please tell us?”
Anand thought about it and responded, “It was because of a painting by my classmate.”
“Painting?” The reporter asked, somewhat taken aback. How was one of the biggest scientific discoveries in the empire connected with a painting?
“Yes, a painting. It was a painting of a man with lightning in his background. I believe it was made by a classmate called Jadeja Raghunathan. Looking at the painting, I was inspired.”
The reporter’s eyes widened—this was a very good piece of information. She quickly wrote it down on a piece of paper and continued to ask questions.
Jadeja Raghunathan, sitting in the corner of the auditorium in the student section, was taken aback when his name was mentioned. But in his heart, he was happy for a few minutes and did not think too much about it. However, who would have thought that Vidyut would become the fuel of human civilization and that the painting that inspired it all would be his? In the future, it would be treated as one of the most important pieces of art in human history, displayed in the Bharatiya Heritage Museum—the world’s most prestigious museum.

Anand Binoy was about to go back to his dorm room to get some rest. Talking for so long had already exhausted his energy, and he did not want to talk with anyone anymore. Thankfully, due to the university staff knowing about his personality, they helped him a lot by diverting all the people away while allowing him to exit through the back door. However, just as he was about to leave the main building and walk toward the hostel, he was called by a man he had never seen before.
It was a burly, middle-aged man wearing an all-black attire with various badges on his chest as well as his shoulders, carrying a gun Anand had never seen. Binoy was not a military enthusiast, so he was not too familiar with weaponry, but due to his good memory, he could definitely tell that the gun carried by the soldier was neither the Brown Bess rifle, the Shikari rifle, nor even the older version of the Bharatiya musket. It looked much newer and more complicated.
Just when he was about to ask why he had stopped him, the man spoke himself. “Mr. Anand, I am sorry for disturbing you, but His Majesty would like to have a word with you. Are you willing to meet him now?” His tone was friendly and respectful.
“!”
Anand remained silent, but seeing as his eyes had widened like a pair of saucers, one could imagine the shock and astonishment he was feeling in his heart.
The Royal Guard was not impatient; instead, he patiently waited for a response.

Anand came back to his senses, and without much thought, he immediately agreed. “Yes, I will meet him. Please lead the way.” He was feeling nervous, but he was also excited at the same time. He kept wondering what meeting His Majesty would be like.
A few minutes later, Anand was surprised to realize that he had unknowingly arrived at the principal’s office.
“Please!” The Royal Guard said as he pushed the door open and gestured for him to go inside while he respectfully stood outside.
‘Gulp!’
Anand’s heart was beating out of his chest. He had agreed in the heat of the moment, but now that the emperor of the Bharatiya Empire was so close, he couldn’t help but second-guess himself. He wanted to turn back and quickly run to his dorm room, but looking at the Royal Guard, who did not let go of the door and stood in position like a statue, he quickly understood that if he did not make his move, the Royal Guard might really stand in that place the whole day.
‘Fuck it!’
Finally, Anand made up his mind and took a deep breath before stepping forward.
The moment he stepped into the room, Anand heard the click of the door being gently closed behind him. As he hesitantly turned his head to the right, he could see the emperor sitting in the principal’s chair, looking at him with a smile.
