Chapter 886: Typewriter is Famous (1/2)
The Yadav typewriter was silently put on sale without much advertisement, but Thirumala Printers, the company that manufactured the Yadav typewriter, did not have to advertise it either.
A few days ago
Kirtana, the 5th warehouse manager of Thirumala Printers, sat in a conference room with several middle-aged men, as outside the room, labourers rushed into the warehouse, picked up the wooden boxes on their backs, and loaded them onto hundreds of carriages that were waiting outside. Inside the conference room, Kirtana was giving an ultimatum with a stern gaze to all the representatives of the logistics companies who had come to pick up the typewriters and ship them to various places in the southern part of the empire.
“We are on a tight deadline. Within the week, all the units in the warehouse should be spread across Vijayanagar, Kakatiya Puri, Chera Nadu, Cholapuri, Anuradha Puri, and Samudra Nagari.”
“All of you are from reputable logistics companies. I hope there won’t be any delays in transportation. Especially you, Mr. Hari from Brown Logistics—even though transporting the shipment to Samudra Nagari is a bit more challenging, I do not expect to get such excuses from you since we are paying you a hefty amount, nearly 30% more than what the others around you are getting paid. So I hope that I will not be disappointed.”
“Do not worry, madam. We’ve already docked our Kathmandu-class Clipper at Puducherry. Our company will not disappoint you, as it is our reputation that we rely upon to maintain our position in the market.”
“Good!” Kirtana got up. “But, I hope you show me through actions rather than words. Now, everyone, please—it looks like your carriages have been loaded and your drivers are waiting to set off. I don’t want to hold you any longer.”
Although the words of the warehouse manager were very sharp and made a few people uncomfortable, everyone knew that earning money was more important than arguing with a woman.
Soon, the group of carriages rushed out of the warehouse location and dispersed in different directions, as if they were spider webs spreading out from the centre of the nest.
Kirtana, wiping the sweat on her forehead, respectfully stood in front of a middle-aged man who was the director of the warehouse.
Next to her, within the confines of the office, were a few people who were reporting about the completion of their duties and people sitting, looking through some documents.
“Director, all the merchandise in the third warehouse has been picked up by the logistics companies. They set off half an hour ago.”
“It’s the same for the first warehouse, sir. Several logistics companies that have excellent distribution channels in the North East have picked up the stock.”
It was finally Kirtana’s turn, and she replied formulaically, following the lead of her seniors, “All the products in the 4th warehouse have been dispatched. I have briefed the representatives of the logistics companies about the importance of the delivery as well. They should complete the contract without any complications.”
Two other people entered the room and gave their confirmation as well about the dispatch of the merchandise.
Within a few hours, Jeevan, the director of Thirumala Printers, received a visit from the warehouse director of the company. “Sir, all the merchandise has been shipped to the five parts of the empire. All the warehouses from the first to the fifth are emptied.”
“Should I arrange for the merchandise in the 6th warehouse to be shipped as well?”
Jeevan shook his head. “No. The merchandise in the 6th warehouse will no longer be sold in bulk. Since we have already fulfilled the order of His Majesty to allocate over 80,000 units (80%) for various government departments, we should use the remaining units to sell them directly to the market.”
“I will inform you what to do next. For now, go back and keep track of the status—whether the merchandise has been received by the clients in different states.”
“Yes, sir!”
After the director of the warehouse left, Jeevan looked towards the directors of Human Resources and Distribution.
“Has what I had asked been done?” Jeevan asked as he looked at the Director of Human Resources.
The Director of Human Resources, a chubby yet energetic middle-aged man, stood up with confidence, “I did, sir. This subordinate sent invites to more than 20,000 public figures all over the empire, including popular ministers, police officers, doctors, novelists, artists, singers, drama artists, businessmen, and others. Normally, we don’t appear much in the public purview since, until now, all the products we produced used to be sold directly to the printing service companies, and it was logically not possible to sell the typewriter to those famous figures without any reputation. But I think it will not be a big problem for us, sir, since I have had the emblem of Raya Machinery Group added to the invite.
As soon as the people receiving the invite see that we are a company under the royal family, they will definitely come and purchase the product using their invite. However, just to be sure, I have prepared 5,000 more invites. If the number of people who order the product does not reach 20,000 within a few days, I will immediately send out more invites.”
Jeevan was satisfied. He was ordered by His Majesty to dispose of the 20% stock, however, he sees fit. He was originally thinking to simply put the product on the market like they did with the printing press, but he got another idea. The Yadav typewriter is not a product that is focused towards corporate clients; instead, it is a product that is directly focused towards consumers. He fell into thought, thinking what he could do to get the largest impression without investing anything in publicity, not because he didn’t want to, but Thirumala Printers didn’t have a publicity department to begin with.
Although Thirumala Printers is now expanding into the civilian market, and a new publicity department was established a week ago, that’s beside the point. The solution Jeevan came up with was to send the printers to all the famous people in the empire at a cheaper cost, and when they use it and talk about it, the whole nation is bound to know of its existence.
And once it does become known throughout the empire, even the publicity expenses of the future could be entirely skipped.
Since the invites have already been sent, the only thing he has to do is wait.
He turned towards the Director of Distribution and inquired, “How do we distribute the merchandise? Have you decided?”
The Director of Distribution, surprisingly a young man wearing large glasses, got up, “We have reached a consensus in the department to ship the products through the post office, sir.”

“Huh!” Jeevan was not expecting this. “Don’t we have our own distribution department? Can’t that be used? Why are we wasting resources employing the post office? You know, unlike the merchandise we shipped to the government, the price for the post office will have to be borne by the company itself.”
“I know, sir, but we have no choice,” the young man with glasses shrugged. “The distribution channels we have developed until now focus on a completely corporate audience. It does not matter where our offices lie—as long as the media companies know where our office is, they come to our doorstep searching for us. But the civilian audience is completely different. If we do not have offices in all major cities, we are unable to ship the merchandise ourselves.”
“The best we can do is use our channels to ship the merchandise from our manufacturing plants to various states, and once it reaches various states and cities where our offices exist, we can simply hand over the product for the post office to deliver.”
‘Tsk!’
“Fine, but it cannot be like this in the future.”
Making a decision in his mind, he directly called for an executive meeting. When all the directors reached the office, he got up, spread the map, and pointed at all the major cities in the empire.
“In the next few months, I need our company to buy shops in all these cities. Give priority to buy the shops where there are educational institutions, public institutions, or even large private companies, whichever is bigger. These are our main target audience for our new Yadav typewriters.”
“Let’s see… this endeavour will cost the company over 10 to 12 million Varaha. Director of Finance, Chandra, can we afford this?”
“Yes sir, we can. There is still quite a bit of liquidity in the accounts, especially since newspaper companies are expanding at a very fast pace and printer service companies are ordering more and more printers.”
“Hmm, that’s good. Start the purchase immediately,” he ordered. But suddenly a thought crossed his mind, “Wait. The typewriter is bound to be a big hit, especially seeing how much attention His Majesty has put into this product. It is very likely that we will have to increase the manufacturing scale even more, and for that to happen, we need more funds.”
