Chapter 277: Chapter274-I’m Never Playing the Fool Again!
“Your Highness Velen, I believe you now! My father even asked me to deliver a message to you… he said, when you’re ‘training’ me, make sure to be… a little rougher…”
By the end, Sherlock’s face was filled with unease. He could hardly believe those words actually came from his father.
Rougher? What kind of training?
Velen looked completely baffled, unable to make sense of the message at all.
“Never mind that. Just take me to a quiet guest room for now,” he said, brushing the matter aside.
Inside the guest room.
“Your Highness Velen, earlier you mentioned needing my help. May I ask what it’s about?” Sherlock asked respectfully.
“Spread the word—we’re hosting an auction at noon.”
Since they’d missed the scheduled auction, Velen had simply decided to throw one himself. That idea had popped into his head the moment he learned of Sherlock’s identity.
A last-minute auction?
Sherlock froze on the spot.
Though he’d never managed the auction house himself, he’d been surrounded by it all his life and knew that organizing one wasn’t easy. A good auction needed not only rare and valuable items, but also advance publicity to stir up excitement and competition.
To propose something like this so casually… this was a first for him.
There’s no way this auction would fetch good prices!
“Your Highness Velen, it’s nearly noon, and our branch has no quality items for auction. Even if we hold one now, we likely won’t attract many people,” Sherlock protested.
“I’ve got the items right here! Three bottles of Invincible Upgrade Potion—take one and instantly level up! Three Fruits of the Saintess—premium ingredients for top-tier potions! Three pieces of Astral Aurum Stone! And three small vials of Iron Cub Springwater…”
As Velen laid out each item, Sherlock was completely dumbfounded.
Each one of these was a priceless treasure. Any single one could serve as the grand finale at the central auction house.
They were guaranteed to break auction records!
“Your Highness Velen, these are too valuable! If we marketed this properly, it would cause an uproar! Mages from all over would bring their life savings and rush to Uranus Star!”
“But there’s a serious risk,” Sherlock warned. “If word gets out, it might attract top-tier powerhouses. We could be in serious trouble.”
“That doesn’t matter. The auction will proceed as planned at noon. If they come, it’s their luck. As for security—don’t worry. If anyone tries to rob us… they won’t live to tell the tale.”
Velen’s calm response left no room for doubt.
“Now, listen closely. There’s something very important. My auction will have special rules: No matter the actual bids, the first item must sell at the lowest price. The second item will go to the third lowest bidder. The third item sells to the highest bidder. The fourth item goes to the second highest… and so on.”
Sherlock scratched his head, nearly tearing his hair out.
Other auctions reward the highest bidder—here, everything was about luck?
Was this even an auction or just pure torment for the buyers?
There was no doubt. The bidders would go insane.
“Your Highness, if we auction like this, we’re going to lose a fortune!”
Sherlock slapped himself three times to clear his mind and pleaded again.

“Lose money? These are just scraps, nothing but junk. Even if they go for a single low-grade manacrystal, we’re still profiting! How can we lose?”
“Huh?” Sherlock stared, completely at a loss.
“Take this Lafite Vintage, for example. Your father uses it to soak his feet. And the Iron Cub Springwater? He drinks it with tea and bathes in it daily.”
“So really, these are just leftovers we’re turning into entertainment. We’re actually making a killing!” Velen said with a straight face.
“What?!”
Sherlock staggered back three steps, staring at Velen in disbelief.
He could not, no matter how hard he tried, picture his father—once a frugal and calculating auction house magnate—living such a life of utter decadence.
“No way! I don’t believe it! My father is a powerful mage, but he’s managed an auction house all his life! Even if someone gave him permission, he’d never waste resources like that!”
Velen sighed. “You’re not wrong. At first, he struggled to adapt… but now, he’s more than used to it.”
“If you don’t believe me, contact him again. But for now, go spread the word about the auction.”
With a wave of his hand, Velen dismissed him.
“What is a real auction? This is!”
“Let the madness begin. Let the chaos rise!”
Velen smiled to himself, full of anticipation for the noon auction.
Just then, Sherlock came rushing back.
Velen raised a brow. “What is it now?”
“Your Highness, I’m not very familiar with auction affairs and I’m worried I won’t handle things perfectly. Maybe I should find a professional to take over. You could explain it all to them instead?” Sherlock said carefully.
“Sure,” Velen replied. “But if you had done this yourself, I planned to reward you afterward—with a complete legacy.”
“But now that you’re handing it off… never mind,” he added with a sigh, sounding disappointed.
Damn it!
“Everyone, assemble in the first-floor lobby! This is my first auction, personally hosted by me, Sherlock! If anyone screws this up, I’ll have their head!”
Sherlock turned instantly from hesitant to authoritative, barking orders with fierce determination.
Watching him storm off, Velen chuckled.
“No one truly hates something,” he murmured. “They just haven’t been given enough incentive yet.”
Meanwhile, inside the fortress…
“I was wrong. I was wrong about everything.”
“I used to want the horse to run but wouldn’t feed it. It’s true—Your Highness Velen really knows how to motivate people!”
Upon hearing from a senator that his son was personally organizing an auction, Selroc gave a bitter smile.
As much as he hated to admit it, Velen’s unorthodox methods were utterly irresistible.
Though he still didn’t know exactly what Velen had promised his son, the results spoke volumes.
At the same time, shocking news swept across the Uranus Star and spread to neighboring towns and fortresses.
Most people were skeptical.
Astral Aurum Stone?
The highest known grade had only ever appeared on the Singularity Battlefield—and that was the thousand-year-old variety.
A ten-thousand-year-old Astral Aurum Stone? That was something out of legend! Who would even dare to put one up for auction?
Lafite Vintage. Astral Aurum Stone. Fruit of the Saintess.
Each of these was a rare treasure. And now they were all showing up in one auction?
Not to mention the unheard-of Invincible Upgrade Potion.
Still, some couldn’t resist the temptation—even if it was likely a trap. Naturally, there were also bandits and rogues who were eyeing the event with sinister intent.
Inside the fortress, when Anastasia heard the news, her first reaction was:
“This has to be Velen’s doing.”
There was no one else in the entire galaxy who could produce that many rare items.
Especially the Invincible Upgrade Potion—it was clearly one of Velen’s “signature creations.”
“I was played for a fool last time, but not again!”
“Last time, I offered the highest price. This time, I’ll bid the lowest. If I don’t win, I lose nothing—those items are practically flooding the fortress anyway!”
“I swear I’ll make that spendthrift regret messing with me!”
Brimming with excitement, Anastasia prepared to attend the event—ready to reclaim her pride.
