Chapter 45: Chapter45-Divination
Anastasia stared at the words on the letter, utterly stunned.
Belle joining Celestia Academy and becoming Headmaster Caitlin’s mentee was something they all knew.
Caitlin was a famously powerful awakener, renowned across multiple galaxies.
But just now, Belle had told her that her mentor Caitlin, this top-tier powerhouse, had somehow become Velen’s mentee.
Even though Belle herself had shared the news, Anastasia still found it absurd, something that didn’t seem remotely real.
However, her younger sister would never joke about her mentor.
This news had to be true—Caitlin had, for some reason, really acknowledged Velen as her mentor!
Then, as Anastasia thought it over carefully, she felt on the verge of collapse.
Independent senator?
Mentor?
She didn’t even know how she should address Velen the next time they met!
Sighing, Anastasia thought that if she hadn’t let Velen join the Watchers’ Legion back then, none of this would be happening now.
But things had come this far, and there was no point in regretting it.
All she could do now was quickly gather herself and look at Aiden, Hael, and the others before her.
“Uncle Aiden, the fortress is practically out of resources. If you’re still willing to stay here, then remain at the fortress.”
Aiden waved his hand nonchalantly. “You don’t need to worry about me. As long as Velen returns from the Singularity Battlefield, that’s all that matters.”
He had already sensed the fortress’s conditions earlier—it was quite rudimentary. But as long as Velen was here, nothing else mattered to him.
Hael and the others also understood Anastasia’s intention and quickly spoke up.
“Miss, we don’t need the fortress’s resources either. As long as Velen is here, that’s enough!”
Seeing this, Anastasia breathed a slight sigh of relief and then turned to Kevin.
“Arrange rooms for them. Everything else can wait until Velen comes back.”
…
Meanwhile.
After several hours of traveling through the dark expanse of space, Velen finally arrived at an ancient planet with signs of life.
It was already the age of interstellar navigation, so despite the unfamiliarity of this planet, Velen didn’t feel much estrangement. Compared to Uranus Star, it was not too different—if anything, it seemed slightly underdeveloped.
After asking some locals for information, Velen roughly understood his location—extremely far from Uranus Star.
This gave him a bit of a headache. While major planets had been terraformed and humanity had engaged in large-scale interstellar colonization, transportation between planets was still not very convenient.
Velen could only head into a bustling city to find a way to return to Uranus Star as quickly as possible.
“I am Kelsey, Councilor of the Tarot Order. Tarot divination—see your past life, see your future!”

Just as he entered a lively street, Velen spotted an elderly man dressed in refined attire, wearing a black bowler hat, sitting in a small roadside booth. Before him lay a deck of weathered Tarot cards, and he was calling out energetically.
Councilor of the Tarot Order?
Velen curiously sized up the old man.
The Tarot Order was one of the most renowned organizations in the universe, possessing not only the purest intelligence network but also unparalleled expertise in divination. Nearly every major power treated the Tarot Order with reverence.
Of course, because the Tarot Order was so famous, imposters frequently emerged to impersonate them.
Nonetheless, Velen was intrigued by Tarot divination. Regardless of whether this man was genuine or fake, it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try.
“One divination, ten thousand mana stones!”
Seeing the price listed on the sign, Velen immediately understood why the booth was so deserted.
Mana stones, more precious than gold coins, were the common currency among awakeners. Ten thousand mana stones could purchase a wealth of materials for upgrades.
“Well, since I’m here, might as well give it a shot!”
With that, Velen sat down on the chair across from Kelsey.
“A ten-thousand-mana-stone divination? Someone’s actually going for it?!”
“Is this guy a shill?”
Velen’s actions instantly attracted attention from passersby. After all, the exorbitant fee for a single divination was enough to deter most people.
“Pay the ten thousand mana stones first, then draw a card.”
Seeing Velen sit down, Kelsey’s face, lined with deep wrinkles, remained expressionless as he calmly spoke.
Without hesitation, Velen retrieved a storage bag and handed it to Kelsey.
When Kelsey saw the ten thousand mana stones inside, a faint smile finally appeared on his face.
“You’ll soon find this is worth every bit of it!”
With that, his hands moved like a butterfly in flight, shuffling the weathered Tarot deck before spreading it out in front of him.
“Pick a card. It will determine your future destiny!”
Rubbing his hands together, Velen casually picked a card and was about to flip it over.
Suddenly, a voice from his system echoed in his mind.
“Warning: A special power is attempting to peer into the host’s destiny. Initiating prevention!”
“Prevention successful!”
Hearing the system prompt, Velen noticed Kelsey suddenly bleeding from the corner of his mouth, and the monocle over his right eye shattered.
Velen froze for a moment.
Who would have thought that this roadside diviner was truly a councilor of the Tarot Order?!
He genuinely could peer into destinies!
Even the system had been forced to activate!
Amazing!
This ten thousand mana stones was money well spent.
At that moment, Kelsey grabbed Velen’s hand, which was poised to flip the Tarot card, and stared at him intently with his murky eyes.
Who could have guessed that in such a remote place, someone capable of obstructing his Words of Fate would appear!
Though Velen’s level was not high, he was undoubtedly extraordinary. As a Councilor of the Tarot Order, Kelsey couldn’t see through him and had suffered severe backlash instead!
He had a strong sense that if Velen really flipped the Tarot card and allowed him to glimpse his destiny, the backlash might kill him on the spot.
Immediately, an invisible flame flickered, and the Tarot card turned to black ash, carried away by the wind.
Kelsey stared at Velen with a deeply alarmed expression.
To think that even with his current strength, he couldn’t discern Velen’s destiny and was instead injured by it!
Seeing Kelsey hurt, Velen felt a pang of guilt. He hadn’t expected that asking for a divination would activate his system’s special function and injure the old man so badly.
He promptly took out an afterlife flower, radiating a unique aura.
“Councilor Kelsey, I’m terribly sorry! I have this afterlife flower, which is excellent for restoring the soul.”
“An afterlife flower?!”
Kelsey’s pupils shrank sharply as he exclaimed in disbelief.
“This is far too valuable! Please, take it back! While my soul has been gravely injured, using an afterlife flower to recover would be far too extravagant!”
Kelsey waved his hands repeatedly. “If you sold this to an alchemist or an Ascended Rank awakener, the wealth and rewards you’d gain would be astronomical!”
He glanced at Velen. “Besides, you’re just an Apprentice Rank Level 9 awakener. If anyone learns you possess such a treasure, you’ll undoubtedly become a target for those who’ll stop at nothing to obtain it.”
To Kelsey, the afterlife flower’s rarity was indeed extraordinary, but it paled in comparison to Velen, whose destiny was unreadable.
Hearing Kelsey’s genuine concern, Velen couldn’t help but feel a bit of goodwill toward him.
“Councilor Kelsey, I’m well aware of the afterlife flower’s value and rarity. But I still want you to have it. Otherwise, in a few days, I might use it as incense—I haven’t enjoyed that intoxicating fragrance in a while.”
As he spoke, Velen handed the afterlife flower to Kelsey without hesitation.
Use an afterlife flower as incense?
Kelsey stared at Velen in shock, then shook his head with a wry smile.
“That joke wasn’t very funny, but I do appreciate the sentiment. Don’t worry about my injury; I’ll recover in a year or two.”
However, seeing the determination in Velen’s eyes, Kelsey hesitated for a moment before plucking a single petal from the afterlife flower.
“A single petal will significantly speed up my recovery. You should keep the rest of the afterlife flower.”
Just as Velen was about to speak, the system’s voice suddenly echoed in his mind.
“Congratulations, host, for unlocking a special system feature. Rewards: 10,000 luxury points, 100 afterlife flowers, 10 SSS-grade Tomes of Skill Experience (exclusive to Words of Fate).”
A look of pleasant surprise crossed Velen’s face. He hadn’t expected that triggering the system’s special feature would yield such generous rewards!
