Chapter 72: Chapter72-Dragon Forge
“They’ll be here soon. Wait for them to finish collecting the mana stones, then send them on their way. Don’t forget the order,” Velen instructed, his voice calm.
When Ironback Centipede stared at him, looking somewhat confused, Velen immediately understood his thoughts. However, this decision had been the result of a lot of back-and-forth with the system. There was no way he could explain this to Ironback Centipede, so he decided to leave it unsaid.
Ironback Centipede didn’t quite understand, but he committed Velen’s orders to memory. The more he thought about it, the more he felt that what his master was doing was simply cruel.
To him, Velen’s ruthlessness had already surpassed that of the one-eyed, red-haired maniac.
“Is this the place?” A low voice suddenly came from outside the door.
Ironback Centipede’s expression grew serious, and he reported, “Master, there are two individuals. One of them is at Hero Rank level 8. This is likely the helper that person hired.”
Velen nodded and opened the door. The two men, who had been attempting to force their way in, froze when the door swung open. Their faces twisted into cruel smiles as they stormed into the room.
When they saw the pile of mana stones, stacked like a small mountain at the doorway, both men were momentarily stunned. The sight before them was astonishing—there were at least a million mana stones, maybe even more!
Their excitement intensified as they realized the enormity of what they were looking at. The five million mana stones Velen had previously given them, along with this massive pile, confirmed that Velen was indeed a wealthy tycoon.
“Well, well, you two are the first ones to recognize me as a big-time target. Consider this one million mana stones a token of my appreciation,” Velen said, walking over to the pile and pushing it toward the two men.
They stared for a moment, then their expressions turned icy.
“You think one million mana stones will buy us off, you little brat? Do you take us for beggars?” one of them sneered.
“Hand over your storage bags!” the other demanded. “If you cooperate and give us five hundred million mana stones, we might let you go.”
David couldn’t hold back and spoke first. He had promised his boss five hundred million mana stones, and this one million wasn’t nearly enough—it was practically an insult!
Velen sighed inwardly and spoke to the system, “System, didn’t I tell you these guys have huge appetites? They need more mana stones to make it interesting. I want to scare them to death, but now I’m being looked down upon by these two lowlifes. A big tycoon like me is being disrespected!”
Velen’s words were dripping with sarcasm as the system hummed, seemingly reluctant to respond.
Then, with a sharp tearing sound, a golden-armored guardian appeared, familiar to Ironback Centipede. Seeing that it wasn’t the one-eyed, red-haired man, Ironback Centipede let out a silent breath of relief.
Velen, on the other hand, was puzzled. “Why is a Guardian showing up? There’s no danger here.”
The system’s cold voice echoed, “As the host is a top-tier tycoon, these small-time thugs don’t deserve to rob you. Erase them immediately.”
Velen shot a sidelong glance. He could tell the system was just making excuses now, using some absurd tactics.
Ironback Centipede silently watched as David and his partner were instantly eliminated, not daring to ask any questions. He simply helped Velen pack the one million mana stones into a storage bag.
“Ugh, this is so boring,” Velen muttered, shaking his head. Just as he was about to leave, the system’s voice rang out again.
“System error. Compensation granted to host: 100,000 luxury points, 100 lv9 Angel Wing Barriers, and Dragon Forge.”
Velen’s previously irritated expression turned into a grin. “Not bad, not bad. A system that can admit when it’s wrong is a good system!”
The compensation was indeed generous, and Velen chose to selectively forget the earlier frustrations. Ironback Centipede quickly shrank down to a miniature version of himself, floating Velen as if on a magic carpet.
Meanwhile, Velen was busy examining the system’s rewards.
Angel Wing Barrier: When activated, countless angel wings can be conjured, devastating any living creature within the barrier’s radius.
Dragon Forge: Crafted from the bones of a fire dragon, it can unleash the fire dragon’s flames. A supreme tool for alchemists, capable of refining materials from various star systems!
After reading the descriptions, Velen felt a surge of excitement. “The Angel Wing Barrier is incredibly powerful—100 barriers at once! I’ll need to figure out how to get rid of them. I have no use for them anyway.”

“As for the Dragon Forge, this could be useful. I’ll ask Alan, the alchemist, about it when I get the chance.”
Soon, Velen arrived back at the fortress, carried by Ironback Centipede. As they entered the central plaza, he noticed a lot of activity. Many people had gathered there.
“Skills have varying strengths. A well-practiced low-level skill can often be more useful in battle than a high-level skill just learned. So, don’t be obsessed with high-level skills!” Kevin was lecturing, his gaze stern as he looked at Hael and the others.
Hael and his group, on the other hand, were drenched in sweat, their faces flushed and panting.
Velen was confused by what was going on and asked, “Kevin, Aiden, Robert—what’s going on here?”
Instead of answering immediately, the three counselors summoned energy to create comfortable chairs in front of Velen.
“Velen, you’ve been away. Rest first!” Kevin said with a warm smile.
“This chair is my latest creation. It’s as soft as a cloud. You have to try it out—it’s incredibly comfortable,” Robert added eagerly.
Aiden, however, seemed shocked. He knew that the other two had been trying hard to curry favor with Velen, but he hadn’t expected it to go this far!
But seeing the benefits of flattering Velen, Aiden snorted and kicked the chairs that Robert and Kevin had created, smashing them to pieces.
Robert and Kevin froze, dumbfounded. What was Aiden doing? Wasn’t he supposed to be trying to please Velen too? Why stop them?
Before they could react, Aiden snapped, “You two are hopeless! Do you think Velen needs to rest right now? Look at him—he’s just come back from a trip, and all you can offer is a chair?”
He then pulled out a bottle of fine wine and a platter of roasted meat from his storage bag and placed it before Velen.
“Velen, you must be hungry. Here, try some of this roasted meat. The wine’s been aged for centuries—it’s exquisite!”
Everyone watching was left speechless.
Especially Hael, Alan, and the others, who nearly spat blood from frustration. They were working themselves to the bone while the counselors treated Velen like royalty. The disparity was impossible to ignore.
Just as Hael and the others glared at Aiden in frustration, Aiden glared back at them.
“What are you looking at? Have you finished your training tasks? If you keep dawdling, I’ll make you train ten times harder!”
Hael and the others could only look away, knowing they had no choice but to endure the situation. The counselors were too powerful to defy.
“Remember, this is for your own good. If you suffer now, you’ll bleed less when danger strikes later,” Robert and Kevin added.
Velen, however, was deep in thought and turned to the system.
“System, can the Angel Wing Barrier’s power be adjusted?”
Since it wasn’t useful for him, he was considering using it to help train Alan and the others.
Using a devastating weapon like the Angel Wing Barrier to help them improve their skills—how is this not flaunting wealth?
“This barrier’s power can be adjusted freely, but regardless of its power level, it will dissipate after 12 hours!”
“Non-host users need to leave a soul mark beforehand to control the barrier’s power at will.”
Upon hearing the system’s notification, Velen couldn’t help but feel like a genius!
As a look of immense joy appeared on Velen’s face, Hael and the others present instinctively felt something bad was coming.
Velen then turned to Aiden and the other two counselors, smiling as he spoke:
“Gentlemen, using ordinary methods to improve skill proficiency and combat ability is really slow, and you can’t simulate the chaos of a real battle. I have a much better solution!”
As he spoke, a fist-sized, shimmering white light orb appeared in Velen’s hand.
“This is a level 9 barrier. Once activated, it covers a large area and creates countless angel wings that attack anything within its range. The power is terrifying and can be adjusted to suit the situation. It’s perfect for improving Hael and the others’ skill proficiency and combat ability!”
Upon hearing this, Hael and the others’ eyes widened in shock.
Not only is he flaunting his wealth, but they’d been working so hard on their training, and now this? Instead of understanding their struggle, Velen is giving them a weapon that could obliterate everything!
This wasn’t a tycoon; this was the “Torture King!”
They all glared at Velen.
Previously, they had hoped Velen would relieve them from this grueling training, but now the intensity was about to increase. Was he afraid they hadn’t been pushed hard enough?
“Velen, a level 9 barrier? That’s a weapon capable of destroying stars! Using it for training—this is too wasteful!”
Kevin and the others twitched their mouths as they looked at Velen.
A level 9 barrier could only be deployed by the rarest of the awakeners, and its cost was beyond measure in mana stones! If its full power was unleashed, even the three counselors would be reduced to ash in an instant.
But Velen shook his head repeatedly, his face serious as he responded:
“Senator Kevin, you’re wrong! There’s no better investment than investing in talent!”
“Hael, Alan, and the others are all future geniuses of Fortress and Ducal Manor. Investing in them, helping them grow—anything I give is worth it!”
Kevin’s mouth twitched. Though he knew Velen was just flaunting his wealth and spouting nonsense, he couldn’t argue with that logic.
“Fine, whatever. It’s just a level 9 barrier. If this tycoon isn’t worried about it, then we shouldn’t be either,” Kevin sighed.
At Kevin’s words, Hael and the others exploded.
“Senator Kevin, how can you say that? This is a level 9 barrier, do you want us to die?!”
“If we can’t resist, we might as well prepare for it. Velen may have no conscience, but at least he’s only prepared one barrier. If we endure, it’ll be over!”
Hael glanced at the other four elites and Alan, trying to reassure them. They didn’t have the status that Velen did to ignore the counselors’ orders.
“Ugh, we’ll have to cooperate. Though it’ll be tough, we should be able to endure. The barrier doesn’t last long, anyway.”
Alan and the others reluctantly agreed.
But before they could finish, they watched as Velen pulled out one barrier after another from his pocket.
“I have 99 rare Angel Wing Barriers here for you. They’re enough for 50 days of continuous training. Get to work! I’m doing this for your own good!”
Huh?!
Taking out all these barriers—was he trying to kill us, or is this really for our benefit?
Hael and the others nearly vomited blood in frustration.
Level 9 barriers were being handed out like cheap cabbage to train them—one slip-up and they’d be preparing for a memorial service!
Kevin and the other counselors stood frozen, staring at the level 9 barriers.
Even though they knew Velen loved to flaunt his wealth, watching him waste such precious barriers made them feel even more shocked by his extravagance.
This was truly an example of reckless luxury—a tycoon who was beyond human limits.
As everyone stood shocked and terrified, Hael couldn’t take it anymore. He quickly took out a communication device, panicked, and said:
“Duke, save us! Velen’s gone mad with wealth in Fortress, and we can’t take it anymore!”
They couldn’t even handle one barrier, let alone a hundred! The thought of activating all those barriers was terrifying beyond imagination! Even the three counselors couldn’t resist them.
What was worse, they had no idea what strange things Velen would throw at them next. They couldn’t stay there for another minute!
In Ducal Manor, Anthony raised an eyebrow as he listened to the urgent message from Hael.
“What’s going on at Fortress? Why does Hael want to return so urgently?”
He was confused. When Hael had first gone to Fortress, he was full of excitement, but now… something had clearly gone wrong.
Just as he was about to reflect, Velen appeared before Hael, suddenly snatching the communication device away. He smiled and said:
“Hael, I’ll leave these Angel Wing Barriers to you. As the top genius of Ducal Manor, you should naturally take responsibility for overseeing them.”
Hael’s face darkened. He wasn’t going to take the fall for this! They were all in this together.
Before he could even refuse with conviction, Velen continued:
“Of course, I know this task is difficult, so I’ve prepared more than 20 SSS-level Tomes of Skill Experience as a reward for you.”
Upon seeing the SSS-level Tomes of Skill Experience in Velen’s hand, Hael hesitated for a moment. But soon, a radiant smile appeared on his face as he patted his chest and promised:
“Velen, leave this to me. I’ll train them well and improve their combat skills several times over!”
Alan and the others watched in disbelief as Hael turned on them so quickly, cursing him under their breath as they hastily tried to leave the area.
“Where are you going? Velen is doing this for your own good!”
“Your growth will help make Fortress and Ducal Manor famous!”
Hael caught the escaping elites one by one and threw them back into the center of the plaza.
“Hael, you treacherous traitor!”
“Didn’t we agree to stick together?”
Alan and the others glared at Hael, but Hael simply shrugged it off, unconcerned, and said:
“This is for your own good. You don’t know what’s best for you! Get in the barrier now!”
With that, he activated the barrier and kicked them all into it.
Velen, watching from the sidelines, nodded in satisfaction. With Hael in charge, they’d surely make great progress.
…
Back at Ducal Manor,
Anthony frowned as he stared at the now-silent communication device.
“Should I bring them back, or should I just leave them there?”
After a moment of thought, Anthony’s expression grew serious. Hael had a strong sense of principles. If something wasn’t serious, he wouldn’t have reached out to him.
But since Hael was at Fortress, with old friends and Kevin there, he shouldn’t be facing any life-threatening danger.
“Well, I don’t know exactly what’s happening, but going to Fortress and seeing Velen again will be a good opportunity!”
Soon, Anthony made up his mind. He laughed and decided to inform the Senate, telling them he was heading to Fortress.
When William and the other Senate members heard Anthony’s report, they were immediately excited. They quickly changed clothes and rushed to Anthony’s side.
Upon seeing their eager faces, Anthony froze, and Corner, who had followed him, was speechless. Could it be that the five grand senators had truly lost their minds?
