- Chapter 113 - Chapter 113 Different Path
Chapter 113: Different Path Chapter 113: Different Path I finalized the teams, setting one group to take on Zorx outside the dungeon and another to confront Vorx here.
The stakes were as high as they could get, and time was running out.
As we began strategizing, I directed Marius, Julius, and Termina to buy us precious minutes by holding off the minor demons Vorx had summoned.
Cain, however, wasn’t having it.
His fists were clenched, eyes blazing with frustration.
“What the hell is this?!
I’m the one who should be taking down the Dungeon Boss, not you, Naoki!
Let me fight Vorx and that boss fusion!
You go after Zorx!” His words hit like a thunderclap, and the tension was palpable.
I tightened my grip on my sword hilt, forcing myself to stay calm.
Cain had always been headstrong, someone who thrived on competition and couldn’t bear the thought of losing.
I needed to steer this conversation carefully.
“Cain, are you sure about that?
You didn’t even finish Zorx.
He escaped because you hesitated.” I let the words linger just long enough to sting.
“WHAT DID YOU SAY?!” Cain roared, his sword now pointed directly at me.
It felt like everything was on the verge of shattering.
Then- “STOP IT!” Freya’s voice cut through the storm like a sharp blade.
She stepped between us, her hands raised to separate us.
“We don’t have time for this!
Look!” She pointed to Vorx, who was deep in her incantation, dark energy swirling around her.
“She’s summoning more minions.
We need to act now!” Her words were a lifeline.
I exhaled slowly and spoke again, this time softer but resolute.
“Cain, no one’s doubting your strength.
You’re the best choice for Zorx.
He uses fire magic that no one else here can endure.
You’ve already cut off one of her arms.
That means your fire is stronger than hers.” Cain froze for a second before breaking into a wide, cocky grin.
“Ha!
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
Damn right my fire’s the strongest!
Fine, I’ll take on Zorx.
But Naoki…” His grin faded into a dangerous seriousness.
“Let’s make this interesting.
Whoever beats their target gets Freya.
You want to win that, don’t you?” “This isn’t about that,” I said flatly.
“This is about doing what’s best for the team.
But if you’re still hesitant, here’s the plan: You, Freya, Kael, Leopold, Luna, Erin’s team, Hendrik’s team, and Professor Alden will handle Zorx.
With more firepower, you’ll be able to contain her flames and reduce the damage she can cause.
Together, you’ll overwhelm her.” Our eyes locked in a battle of wills.
“Meanwhile, I’ll take Lyra, Amelia, Marius, Julius, and Termina to face Vorx.
The fewer people we have, the more agile we’ll be.
Vorx is tied to the dungeon itself, and we’ll need speed and precision to defeat her.” Cain’s silence stretched for a moment before he finally nodded.
He seemed more at peace knowing Freya would be safer in his group.
Then, Professor Alden stepped forward.
His shoulders were squared, his eyes alight with fierce determination.
“Naoki, let me join your team.
I’m a teacher.
Protecting my students is my duty-and my honor.” His words were simple, but they carried the weight of his unshakable resolve.
I couldn’t help but admire him.
A true mentor in every sense.
I nodded.
“Welcome aboard.” As we finalized our plan, Hendrik and his team approached.
“We’ll handle the small fries for you,” Hendrik said confidently.
“Focus on Vorx.
We’ll cover your backs.” “Are you sure?
This won’t be a simple skirmish-it’s life or death,” I said, the weight of the situation pressing down on me.
“We know,” Hendrik replied, his grin unwavering.
“We’ve made our choice.
We want to stand beside you, Naoki.” His teammates nodded in silent agreement, their faces resolute.
I felt a pang in my chest, but I couldn’t deny their determination.
“Thank you.
I’ll count on you.” Just as we were about to wrap up, Freya stepped forward and grabbed my hand.
Her fingers trembled slightly.
“Naoki-dono… Please.
Let me stay with you.
I want to fight by your side.” Her voice was tinged with sadness, and her eyes searched mine for understanding.
“Freya…” I paused, taking a deep breath.
“I’m sorry.
Not this time.
Cain needs you with him to defeat Zorx.” “But…” Her voice faltered.
“I’ll only be a burden.
I’m not strong enough.” I turned to her, holding both of her hands firmly.
“Freya, you’re not a burden.
You’re stronger than you realize.
Your training with Cain has made you a force to be reckoned with.
You can beat Zorx.
Trust me.
Just like I trust you.” Her eyes widened, and a flicker of hope returned.
She nodded, clutching the pendant I’d given her close to her heart.
“I’ll wait for you, Naoki-dono,” she said with a smile that lit up the room.
She was breathtaking in that moment, and I felt my cheeks heat up.
I gave her a small nod.
With everything set, Cain’s team activated Professor Alden’s teleportation stone.
Before he left, Cain turned to me one last time.
“Naoki, if you lose to Vorx and that dungeon boss, I win.
But if you beat them, I’ll admit defeat and let Freya go.” His eyes burned with fierce determination.
“Fine.
But you better be ready, Cain.
I’m going to win-and I’ll make sure it’s spectacular,” I said with confidence.
In my mind, Envi burst out laughing.
“Wow, you’re full of yourself, huh?” I felt my face flush, embarrassed by my bold words.
Cain just smirked.
Freya, Luna, Leopold, Erin, and the rest of their team offered final words of encouragement before disappearing in a burst of light, leaving us behind.
I regrouped with Lyra, Amelia, Professor Alden, and Hendrik’s team to join Marius, Julius, and Termina.
“Sorry to keep you waiting.
It’s time to finish this.” I unsheathed my katana, its blade gleaming in the dim dungeon light.
“Finally!
Let’s take her down, Naoki!” Julius shouted with fervor.
We faced Vorx, her dark aura intensifying as she completed her summoning ritual.
The ground trembled beneath us.
But we didn’t hesitate.
With a roar of determination, we launched our attack.
The battle to end everything had begun.
…
We are now fighting Vorx fiercely.
I tried to see his status: — Vorx The Time Cursed Dungeon Lord (Level 90) — “This is bad, Nao!
She’s level 90!
How are we supposed to defeat her with such a huge gap in power?” Envi’s voice rang out in my head, full of panic.
“Calm down, you’re the system here.
You’re supposed to be cooler than me, you idiot system,” I grumbled internally.
“Just analyze her attacks.
I’m counting on you for that.” “Fine, but stop calling me an idiot, you jerk!” Envi huffed.
We pressed forward toward Vorx.
The path was swarming with her summoned minions-small fry demons, but relentless in their attempts to stall us.
I turned to Lyra.
“Lyra, buff the entire team!” Without hesitation, Lyra raised her staff, casting [Support Magic: Knight and Fortress].
A golden aura wrapped around us, enhancing our attack power and defense.
Right after, Professor Alden invoked [High Support Magic: Continuous Healing].
It was a powerful spell that would heal our wounds and restore stamina for the next ten minutes-a lifeline in this brutal fight.
Suddenly, Hendrik and his team stopped, creating a barrier behind us to block the swarm of monsters.
“Go on ahead, Naoki!
We’ll hold these pests off!” Hendrik called out with a determined grin.
He and his team charged into the fray, keeping the path clear for us to reach Vorx.
I nodded, leading my team forward.
Julius, Marius, Lyra, Amelia, Professor Alden, and I arrived in front of Vorx at last.
The air grew heavy with suffocating pressure, like a tidal wave of dark energy crashing over us.
It was suffused with Vorx’s magic-dense, menacing, and suffocating.
“Well, well, you pathetic humans,” Vorx sneered, her eyes burning with contempt.
“This time, I’ll kill you all.
Especially you, you cursed pest!” She pointed directly at me, her aura flaring with hatred.
We braced ourselves to launch our first attack, but Vorx was faster.
She activated her dungeon boss abilities: [Dungeon Boss Authority: Curse of Seal] and [Curse of Agony].
Suddenly, dark marks etched themselves onto our bodies.
The pain was excruciating, like burning needles piercing every inch of our skin.
“ARGH!
What the hell is this?!” Marius sceram.
I gritted my teeth as the pain seared through me.
Vorx attack me with her stomp, but i dodge it.
I quickly checked my status screen, and the explanation appeared: Curse of Seal-I couldn’t use any of my katana skills.
Worse, Curse of Agony would deal damage every time I attempted to force a skill.
I shouted the details to my team.
Their faces went pale as they realized what this meant.
We couldn’t rely on our strongest abilities.
The battlefield teetered on the brink of despair.
But just when everything seemed bleak- “I’m not done yet!” Lyra shouted.
Her staff glowed with brilliant blue light.
[High Water Magic: Water Dragon of the Seventh Sea] erupted from her hands.
Seven enormous heads made of water coiled around her before surging toward Vorx with ferocious speed.
Professor Alden didn’t waste a second.
“I’ll follow up!
[High Thunder Magic: Thunder Giant]!” he roared.
A massive figure formed from crackling lightning emerged behind him.
It charged straight at Vorx with a thunderous crash, slamming into her with all its might.
The combination of their spells hit Vorx hard.
Her form was engulfed in water and lightning, leaving her stunned.
“She’s vulnerable!
Magic still works on her!” I yelled, hope reigniting in my chest.
Vorx struggled to regain her composure, her curses unable to stop magic-based attacks.
Lyra and Professor Alden had given us a sliver of hope.
The tide of battle was shifting, and we were ready to fight with everything we had.
