Chapter 184: The Return of the Demon Warlords
Serena’s POV:

Right now, the situation has completely reversed. We, who were once fighting against the Kingdom of Gildoria, have now formed an alliance. This was all because of the demons who suddenly attacked Gildoria, taking advantage of the moment while we were at war.

I dispelled the magic I had used to freeze the mercenaries earlier. Since we’re now allies, we need every war resource available.

I asked Lyra and Saintes to heal the wounded mercenaries and our knights. They simultaneously activated the [Area Heal] magic, allowing them to treat a wide range of injuries.

Then, as I gathered all my troops and was about to head out with Yunho and Mina to fight the demons, Lyra suddenly shouted out a warning.

“Serena-nee, Yunho-sama, Mina-sama, please be careful of mental attacks from that female demon. I once fought her alongside my friends. She is Norx the Dreaming Void, and she possesses incredibly powerful mental attack skills,” Lyra warned us.

“At that time, we were completely helpless against her. Only Naoki-sama was able to defeat her. She should have been dead, but somehow she has come back to life,” Lyra added.

“Thank you, Lyra, for the warning. I believe the one we’re seeing now isn’t the real Norx though, because I can sense that she feels like nothing more than an empty shell,” I shared my thoughts, and Lyra nodded in agreement.

Yunho looked at Lyra and thanked her.

“Naoki, huh… interesting name. By the way, I’m immune to mental attacks, so don’t worry,” Yunho said, looking confident.

However, it turned out that Norx wasn’t the only one—another Demon Warlord appeared. This time, it was Gorx the living terror, the fourth-ranked Demon Warlord.

Lyra explained again that Gorx is a necromancer who can summon thousands of undead.

She told us that his undead magic is weak against divine magic, so in this case, Saintes’ power would be essential.

Upon hearing this, Saintes stepped forward to join us and declared her readiness to fight against the high-level demons.

Finally, we were all prepared. We arranged our strategy as follows:

Team fighting Norx: Yunho, me (Serena), Lyra, Termina, and Garron.

Team fighting Gorx: Mina, Saintes, Theresia, and Tanya.

Once ready, we all charged toward the demon army, which was beginning to reach Fort Drakenfort. The knights of the Kingdom of Braveheart and the mercenaries of the Kingdom of Gildoria united to fight the demons trying to break through the fortress.

Fort Drakenfort had a strong defense system with many weapons positioned on top, making it difficult for the demons to break through.

However, one critical weakness was the absence of a magic barrier protecting the fortress and the entire Gildoria region.

The demons could fly through the air and attack the city directly.

This situation did not favor us. But Saintes was there—she could create a holy barrier large enough to cover the city. She was also the one who had created the barrier in the Kingdom of Braveheart.

Therefore, I prioritized having Theresia, the fastest in our team, take Saintes to the city center to set up the barrier.

We all carried out our respective duties in hopes of escaping this crisis.

…

Our plan went smoothly. Theresia successfully brought Saintes to the center of Gildoria’s capital and set up a barrier using her magic:[High Divine Magic: Ultimate Divine Barrier!].

It was an incredibly powerful divine magic—any demon that touched the barrier died instantly. Saintes created a barrier that covered the entire city of Gildoria and also Fort Drakenfort.

Afterward, Saintes and Theresia returned to the battlefield, only to be surprised by how quickly our forces had cornered the demons.

Lyra wasn’t idle either. She stepped in to take over Saintes’ role of repelling the demons’ dark magic. Using [High Support Magic: Sanctuary], she created a zone around her that weakened dark magic.

This gave us the upper hand in finishing off the remaining demons.

Yunho and Mina then thanked Saintes and Lyra for protecting their kingdom. That support allowed them to unleash their full power against the demons.

Garron drew Norx’s attention with his skills, while I attacked from a distance, since she was flying in the sky. I used [Frostfang Slash], but she dodged it with ease.

Termina followed up with [Lightning Homing Arrow], but Norx deflected the attack with her two large scythes.

Finally, Yunho stepped in. He completely overwhelmed Norx. Her mental attacks had absolutely no effect on him—he was truly immune.

Yunho then gathered all the attacks he had taken and unleashed his skill:

“Feel my power and fall from the sky![Mercenary King Skill: Revenge Slash!]”

He concentrated a high-level Forced Aura into his sword and released a red aura slash from a distance. It was so powerful that it shook the entire battlefield.

BAM!

Norx couldn’t dodge the attack and was slammed down to the ground.

Meanwhile, Mina and Theresia attacked Gorx with their high-speed skills. With the support of Lyra’s and Saintes’ magic, the undead army was completely helpless.

It turned into a swift battle. Tanya launched the undead into the air, while Theresia and Mina finished them off.

Then, Mina, moving at incredible speed, hurled her spear at Gorx, infused with full aura. The impact knocked him down and sent him crashing to the ground near Norx.

I seized the moment and used [Winter’s Embrace] to freeze both of them—Norx, Gorx—and the remaining demon forces.

It was easier than we expected.

Lyra commented that they weren’t as strong as they used to be. For some reason, they couldn’t use the ultimate magic they once had.

If they had used that magic, Lyra believed we would have been in serious trouble.

….

After sealing Norx and Gorx in my ice, my companions and I immediately turned our attention to the Gate of Gehenna, which was still open.

Strangely, all our attacks were absorbed by the gate. Then, the gate began to sprout horns that drained mana from everything around it—including the mercenaries, the citizens, and even us.

We couldn’t allow that to happen. The Gate of Gehenna was absorbing an enormous amount of mana and channeling it toward the Demon King’s seal, attempting to break it and awaken him.

But none of our attacks had any effect on closing the gate.

Saintes had run out of mana after maintaining the city-wide barrier. Her divine magic was one of the most effective powers for destroying demons.

With no other option, I resorted to one of my trump cards. I activated the skill embedded in my pendant:[Ice Time Pendant].

Suddenly, my ice magic surged dramatically, overflowing with power. Everyone turned to look at me.

I told them all to move away from me.

“So you’re finally using that, huh?” Theresia said knowingly—she already knew about this skill of mine.

I nodded, and Theresia backed away.

I summoned a magic circle in front of me. The entire area around me began to freeze—including my own body—but I endured it.

Then I invoked:[Winterfell Summon Magic: Divine Beast Eikþyrnir].

This was the divine beast of the Winterfell family, passed down to me as the hero of our lineage. The last time I used this magic was to form a contract with Ei (that’s what I call him), and it had nearly exhausted all my mana.

That’s why I kept this as my last-resort attack.

Slowly, Eikþyrnir emerged from the magic circle—a majestic stag with massive crystal antlers, a shimmering silver-blue body, and breath that froze the wind. As it ran, the ground beneath it froze in spiraling rune patterns.

“Please, Ei… destroy that gate,” I asked him.

“Serena, huh… very well, I’ll help you,” he replied, then dashed through the air toward the open Gate of Gehenna in the sky.

Ei stood before the gate and unleashed his magic:[Divine Frost Time], releasing an intense cold that blanketed the area in sudden snowfall.

The Gate of Gehenna instantly froze solid. The extreme cold cracked the structure, and finally, the gate shattered.

It was all thanks to Ei’s divine magic.

At last, the demons were completely defeated. With the destruction of the Gate of Gehenna, Norx and Gorx also disintegrated and vanished.

Strangely, the Overlord-level demon who opened the portal and released the Gate of Gehenna did not attack us at all. She just smiled and took the red stone that came out after the Gate of Gehenna was destroyed.

We thought she would fight us with all his might. But in fact she let us and opened the portal to retreat.

She left without saying anything, it was very mysterious. But I was grateful that I didn’t face her because right now my magic had been drained. So were my colleagues.

Seeing that situation I shouted that the war was over and the kingdom of Gildoria was safe.

This was our victory. The mercenaries and knights rejoiced.

I withdrew Ei back into the pendant, completely drained of magic. I nearly collapsed, but Lyra caught me gently.

I thanked her, and she smiled.

“That was some incredible magic. I’m not sure even I could withstand it,” Yunho said to me, impressed.

“Yeah… we’re definitely glad we’re not fighting you anymore, haha,” Mina added with a laugh.

Just as we were about to celebrate, Saintes suddenly screamed.

“Nooo!!”

I rushed over to her and asked what had happened. She told me she had received a telepathic message from the nuns in the Kingdom of Braveheart.

They had sent images of the current state of the kingdom—parts of it lay in ruins. The Rank 1 Demon Warlord had launched an attack.

King Aslan von Braveheart, along with the defensive forces, was struggling to protect the people.

The cathedral in the capital had been destroyed, leaving only the Hall of Ascension, where Naoki had undertaken his hero’s trial. Though he was protected by Sir Godfrey, Arsene, and Amelia, they all appeared overwhelmed.

Hearing all this threw us into a panic. The demons were now ravaging Braveheart.

I immediately ordered all the Braveheart knights, as well as my companions and myself, to return to the kingdom as fast as possible. They might not last much longer.

But before we could leave, Yunho and Mina stopped us.

They said they would help us fight the invading demons. Yunho offered to come with us, while Mina would stay behind to protect Gildoria with the barrier that Saintes had cast, which could last for days.

Yunho and Mina also offered us their transport—a steam-powered machine that could move without horses. It looked like advanced technology.

We agreed, and the main force—me, Saintes, Yunho, Theresia, Termina, Garron, Lyra, and Tanya—boarded Yunho’s vehicle and set off ahead of the others toward the Kingdom of Braveheart.

We were trying to shorten the travel time as much as possible—every second counted now.

I prayed to the heavens to protect the Kingdom of Braveheart and the people I love.May we arrive in time.
