Chapter 199: Rise of the New Hero: One Slash
I stepped into the shimmering portal that led back to Aetheria.

The light wrapped around me, pulling my body through the interdimensional rift. I felt the familiar sensation of magic coursing around me like wind brushing against skin—gentle, yet powerful.

But then—suddenly—another portal tore open within the dimensional corridor itself.

A second rift emerged beside me, swirling wildly in a spiral of violet-blue energy. My body tensed instinctively, unsure if this was friend or foe.

From within it… a familiar figure burst forth, radiating data particles like falling stardust.

It was Envi.

He had returned—his true system form briefly visible before he dissolved into motes of light and re-entered my body, reintegrating seamlessly with my soul.

“Welcome back, Envi,” I said with a calm, relieved smile. “You did your job well. You saved my sister, Nana… and for that, I owe you more than words can ever express.”

“HAAAAHAHA! Of course I did! You should know by now—you can always trust the magnificent, unbeatable Envi-sama!” he replied with his usual flamboyant tone, clearly puffed with pride.

I couldn’t help but laugh. His cockiness was absurd—but endearing.

But then, I spoke more seriously.”My debt to you… is real, Envi. I truly owe you.”

There was a pause. Then he replied—still trying to sound casual, but the embarrassment in his voice was obvious.”Eh-heh… don’t mention it. We’re partners, aren’t we? That’s just what we do! HAHAHA!”

A sharp snort cut through his bravado.

“Pffft… acting all shy now?” Runa said, teasingly.

“The only cat around here is YOU!” Envi snapped back, flustered. “You fluffy-tailed menace!”

The two of them started bickering again, their voices echoing through the dimension like a pair of quarrelsome siblings.

I smiled quietly and ignored the squabble. It was strangely comforting.

As we traveled through the dimensional passage, we exchanged updates. Envi’s face turned grim as he began recounting what happened on Earth during my absence.

He had confronted an avatar of the Outer God—a being of unimaginable horror—who had begun manipulating reality on Earth. It was that very entity that orchestrated the attempt to harm Nana and my senior, Kai. Its influence had reached across dimensions, warping minds and twisting intentions.

That knowledge filled me with fury.

“That damn Outer God… I swear I’ll destroy him for what he tried to do to Nana.” My voice trembled with anger.

“You’re not alone in that, Nao,” Envi said, suddenly proud and fired up again. “I managed to land a punch on that bastard—made it SCREAM in pain! Ohoho, that sound was delicious!”

I raised an eyebrow. “You actually hurt it?”

“Hell yeah!” he grinned in my mind. “Same technique as yours—[Power of Incarnation].”

I nodded. “I used it too. It cut through.”

We both reached the same conclusion—perhaps the only power capable of injuring the Outer God… was this: Incarnated Power, the essence of one’s will, sharpened into divine force.

Then suddenly, Envi gasped.”Whoa… Your stats… Naoki, what the HELL happened while I was gone?!”

I grinned.

I hadn’t told him yet.

My level had shattered the limits of ordinary humans.

Envi practically exploded with joy.

“I can FEEL the power from here! It’s like drinking mana through a firehose—WOOHOO!”

He buzzed with excitement—until he opened my status screen and paused.

“…Okay hold on, this is a mess. You never distributed your points, did you?! What kind of RPG protagonist are you?!”

“…I forgot.” I admitted sheepishly.

Envi sighed dramatically. “Hopeless. Absolutely hopeless. Let’s fix it. Together.”

And so we did.

—-

I had received 80 status points, and without hesitation, I allocated the majority to Strength (STR) and Agility (AGI)—my core attributes in combat. The rest I channeled into Intelligence (INT) and Vitality (VIT) for magical resilience and survivability.

Suddenly, I felt a massive surge within me.

A wave of accumulated battle experience—everything I had endured and overcome up to this point—erupted like a dam breaking, flooding into my core.

My Swordsmanship surged to Level 8.My Dark Magic evolved to Level 7, and with it, the Grimoire of the Darkness also ascended to Level 7. These monumental upgrades were thanks to the divine intervention of the God of Darkness—the Blessing of the Darkness and the trait [The Heir of the Darkness] amplifying my potential.

It was beyond extraordinary.

This exponential growth would prove vital in mastering higher-tier Dark Magic spells, ones far more dangerous than anything I had wielded before.

Then, out of nowhere, another system notification flickered in front of me.

“YES! It worked!” Envi cheered in my mind, voice brimming with excitement. “Nao, you’re looking seriously powerful now! This is insane!”

I chuckled, feeling the new strength coursing through me.

“You’re right, Envi. Thank you—for everything. Now we’re ready. It’s time to return to Aetheria… and help our comrades.”

“Damn right we are!” Envi replied, practically bouncing in my head. “And first on that list—we save Amelia! No delays!”

I nodded.

And with that… we arrived.

My astral form from the Hero’s Trial was pulled back to my true body—still lying within the Hall of Ascension, where Amelia, Arsene, and Sir Godfrey were supposed to be guarding me.

My eyes fluttered open.

Blurred vision. Muscles stiff. My entire body felt numb—likely a side effect of the extended period I spent locked in meditation during the trial.

But as my vision sharpened…

A terrible realization gripped my soul.

My worst fear—shared earlier with Envi—had come true.

The Hall of Ascension was in ruins. The walls were shattered, blackened with scorch marks and claw gashes. Parts of the ceiling had collapsed. The sacred place had become a battlefield.

A monstrous presence loomed nearby—a High-Ranking Demon, wreaking havoc with devastating power.

I was inside a barrier, cracked and flickering, its magic stretched to its limit. I recognized the signature—it was Arsene’s magic. Despite his bloodied, broken form, he stood defiantly, protecting the barrier with everything he had left.

Outside it, King Aslan fought tooth and nail. His body was drenched in blood, his left arm severed at the shoulder. Yet he didn’t fall—he refused to fall.

Suddenly, I heard a choked voice near me.

Arsene—his face drenched with tears, holding a limp body beside him—Amelia.

“Please… please, Amelia, stay with me… Hold on!” he wept in despair.

“You damned bastard!” King Aslan bellowed. “How DARE you harm my daughter!”

It hit me like lightning.

Amelia… was dying.

There she was—on the ground, barely clinging to life. Her armor was torn apart, drenched in blood. A demonic scythe had pierced her chest. Her eyes were dull, vacant, her breathing shallow.

Arsene kept pouring mana into a High Heal spell while maintaining the barrier, but it wasn’t enough.

“NO!!” Envi screamed inside me. I had never heard him cry before. “NAO! We have to save her—whatever it takes! I’m begging you!”

I was frozen.

Paralyzed by the horror of the sight.Amelia… she wasn’t just a comrade. She was my childhood friend, tied to the past of this body—Naoki. Her love, obsessive and twisted as it might’ve seemed, had always been genuine.

And somewhere along the way… I had come to love her, too.

This… this was unbearable.

Envi tried to take over—his will flaring up in an attempt to forcibly control my body. Runa tried to calm him down, but he wasn’t listening.

And then—I spoke.

“Envi… if you take over now, and fight recklessly… Amelia will die.”

That single sentence stunned him into silence.

“Listen to me,” I continued, voice firm. “Trust me. I will save her. I’m not letting her die. Not like this.”

A pause… then slowly, quietly, Envi replied, “I trust you, Nao. Please… save her.”

I stood up from my meditation position. My joints cracked from the strain, but I moved anyway. I approached Arsene, who looked up in disbelief.

“N-Naoki… I… I’m so sorry… Amelia, she…” he choked back tears.

I placed a firm hand on his trembling shoulder.”I’ll save her,” I said gently. “She’s precious to me… and she’s also my fiancée. Let me take over her healing.”

His eyes widened. “But… but how?! Her wounds are too deep! This is beyond our capabilities—!”

I reached into my Inventory.

From it, I pulled out a single glowing item—[Divine Healing Bean], gifted to me by Gaia, the God of Nature, during our farewell.

Envi gasped. “Is that—?!”

“Yes,” I nodded. “A sacred healing artifact.”

“Trust me,” I told Arsene.

He nodded.

I gently placed the bean into Amelia’s mouth.

Immediately, luminous vines erupted from the ground, wrapping gently around her. Divine mana surged, golden and pure. Her wounds began to close. The scythe lodged in her chest was removed slowly—and her body began to heal.

[Effect: Auto-healing for 1 hour at 80% effectiveness. Boosted to 90% when combined with High Heal.]

“Arsene,” I said calmly. “She’s out of critical condition. But keep casting [High Heal] to sustain and accelerate the effect.”

His eyes widened with hope as he resumed the spell, hands trembling with renewed determination.

“Naoki… thank you. Thank you so much…”

“Don’t thank me yet,” I said coldly, turning toward the battlefield. “The demon’s still alive.”

I stood tall, the air thick with fury.

“I’ll defeat him. Protect Amelia for me.”

Arsene nodded. “Go. Win.”

“I will.” I narrowed my eyes. “I’ll destroy the bastard who did this.”

As I stepped out of the barrier, my Dark Magic flared like a storm. Shadows coiled around me like living serpents.

King Aslan turned, saw me, and fell to one knee.

“I leave him to you… my future son-in-law,” he said with a strained, bloodied grin.

“I’ll finish this,” I said solemnly.

From my Grimoire of the Darkness, I summoned my weapon—Kagegiri, my black katana of judgment.

My mana burst outward like an explosion—an aura of war.

The demon turned his eyes to me.

“Well, well… so you’re the one they call ‘Child of Fate.’ Naoki von Blackmore, was it?” His voice was like gravel and poison. “I am Xir—The Singular Calamity. And I shall erase you from existence.”

He grinned, unleashing his corrupted magic to clash with mine.

I didn’t flinch.

“How do you know that title…? Only the gods should be aware…” I thought. Then it struck me—Outer God. It had to be his influence.

“Then so be it,” I said aloud. “I am Naoki von Blackmore—The new Hero of Braveheart, and your executioner.”

I activated [Kasoseki x2], doubling my speed. Then, [Blessing of the Thunder]—a 30% boost to AGI.

I vanished in a flash of lightning.

Instantly, I was behind Xir.

“[Dark Magic: Phantom Slash]”

SLASH!!

A scream tore through the air.

My blade cleaved clean through Xir’s demonic form, amplified by my Dark Magic and the aura of the Armor of the Dark Hero.

His eyes widened in disbelief.

“N-no… Impossible…” he gasped, body splitting apart.

He hit the ground—shattered.

And I stood tall, surrounded by shadows and silence.
