- Chapter 63 - Chapter 63 Darkness VS Light
Chapter 63: Darkness VS Light Chapter 63: Darkness VS Light The friendly match between the third-year students of Solara Magic Academy and the third-year students of Braveheart Knight Academy was about to begin.
But before Professor Lowen could give the signal for the match to start, Sander suggested that a powerful barrier be set up around the arena, sensing that the duel would be intense.
“You really think things will get serious this time, huh, Sander?” I said, jokingly.
“That’s right, Naoki!
So give it your all too!” Sander said, looking genuinely excited.
Professor Lowen nodded in agreement, and along with Professor Aldin and the other professors, they cast a high-level barrier to protect the spectators from any potential magic attacks.
It seemed unnecessary to me at first, but I understood that Sander might have been anticipating Nyssa’s unpredictable nature.
I could relate to his cautiousness.
At last, the moment arrived.
Julius, Termina, and I were prepared, ready to engage Sander’s team in battle.
Professor Lowen raised his hand and gave the signal to begin.
Without hesitation, Julius and I dashed toward Sander’s team, with Termina following behind us.
Julius immediately aimed for Nyssa, while I set my sights on Sander.
Termina released a volley of arrows, targeting Windy.
Our attacks collided with force, and after a brief struggle, we managed to separate Sander, Nyssa, and Windy, isolating them.
Now, they had to face us one-on-one.
Yet, to my surprise, they remained remarkably calm.
I attacked Sander first with [Kazekiri], sending a slashing wave of wind energy toward him.
But Sander easily deflected my strike with [Thunder Magic: Thunder Lance].
I realized that my moves were limited; I wasn’t using my katana, only borrowing a one-handed sword from Marius.
Still, I pushed forward with everything I had.
I activated [Kasoseki] to boost my speed and charged at Sander, aiming to strike him up close with [Nisshou Giri], delivering three rapid slash attacks in succession.
But Sander merely smiled and countered with [Thunder Magic: Volt Tempest], surrounding himself with a barrier of crackling lightning that destroyed anything that came near him.
My attacks proved ineffective, easily repelled by his electric shield.
Envi, the system embedded in my mind, advised me to use Dark Magic, but not excessively, to avoid losing control of myself.
Heeding Envi’s advice, I infused my sword with Dark Magic and struck at Sander once more.
Sander’s eyes lit up with excitement.
“That’s it, Naoki!
I’ve been waiting for you to use Dark Magic!” Our strikes continued to clash, creating shockwaves that rattled the arena, with neither of us gaining the upper hand.
I was taken aback by just how strong Sander was, though I already knew he and Windy were among the top-tier students at Solara Academy.

Their humble natures had kept their true strength hidden, making them appear more like ordinary students than formidable mages.
In the midst of our fierce battle, I suddenly heard Termina’s voice calling out to me.
“Naoki, dodge!” She had unleashed [Stormheim Archery: Second Form, Stormcurrent Volley].
It was a skill that fired a barrage of arrows, each surrounded by electricity, creating a current of lightning across the battlefield and trapping enemies within an electric net.
Termina had aimed her attack at Windy, who had been moving toward me and Sander.
Windy, in turn, shouted to Sander to get out of the way.
She cast [Wind Magic: Gust Barrage], summoning a series of powerful gusts of wind that continuously struck anything in their path, pushing enemies back.
Sander and I quickly separated, watching as Termina’s arrows and Windy’s winds collided in midair.
At the same time, I noticed Julius.
He was relentlessly attacking Nyssa, but she countered with a massive black scythe formed from Dark Magic, blocking his strikes.
Julius looked frustrated and switched tactics, using [Starlight Swordsmanship: First Form, Luminous Edge].
His sword became enveloped in brilliant light, and each slash emitted flashes of energy capable of burning or incapacitating the target.
Nyssa responded with [Dark Magic: Blackflame Torrent], summoning a whirlpool of black flames that surged toward Julius.
The two forces clashed violently, and Julius was forced to retreat.
He appeared confused and frustrated-his light-based attacks weren’t effective against her.
It made no sense to him.
“Hahaha, light-element attacks like that won’t do much to me!” Nyssa taunted, her gaze menacing.
Julius’s frustration only grew.
Gathering his aura and magic, he prepared for a stronger attack.
With a determined shout, he unleashed [Starlight Swordsmanship: Radiant Slash], a swift strike that released a crescent-shaped wave of light energy, aimed at Nyssa from a distance.
The attack shattered Nyssa’s dark magic and landed a clean strike, causing her to cry out in pain.
Julius stood tall, a look of pride on his face as Nyssa collapsed, visibly weakened by the blow.
But then, a sudden shout rang out from Sander.
“Naoki, don’t take your eyes off me!” With that, he cast [High Thunder Magic: Shockwave Burst], releasing a wave of lightning-infused energy that sent shockwaves through the arena, cornering me.
Without hesitation, I gathered my magic and used [Dark Magic: Dark Slash 3X] to counter.
Three dark slashes tore through the air, cutting through the electric waves, and our magic collided with a deafening crash, causing the arena to tremble.
However, my attacks managed to overpower his, dispersing the shockwave.
Meanwhile, Termina and Windy continued their intense duel, their magic colliding with each attack.
Windy, her focus unwavering, raised her hand and cast [High Wind Magic: Vortex Impact], summoning a massive whirlpool of wind.
The gale whirled violently, its powerful current twisting through the air, threatening to swallow Termina whole.
The vortex created by Windy was not only destructive but swift, making it nearly impossible for anything to resist.
Termina, however, was no novice.
With a fierce determination in her eyes, she reacted quickly, drawing back her bow and taking aim.
“I won’t be so easily caught!” she muttered under her breath.
She fired a single arrow, but this was no ordinary arrow.
With a pulse of magic, she activated [Stormheim Archery: Third Form, Lightning Spiral], sending the arrow spinning through the air.
The shaft of the arrow was surrounded by an electric aura, crackling with intense energy.
As the arrow sped toward Windy’s vortex, the two forces collided.
The lightning-infused arrow created a swirling electric vortex of its own, and for a brief moment, the two spirals of energy locked in an epic clash.
The winds of the vortex were neutralized by the electric current, their fierce pull disrupted by the surging arcs of lightning that shot through the air.
For a moment, the battlefield seemed to freeze, as both combatants maintained their positions, unwilling to relent.
It was a stalemate.
But Sander and Windy shared a look.
A silent understanding passed between them.
They both recognized that they would need to tap into their full potential to secure victory.
“It seems we’ll need to go all out, Windy,” Sander said, his voice unwavering, filled with a sense of resolve that could only come from someone truly committed to victory.
Windy, her brow furrowed but her spirit resolute, nodded in agreement.
“I agree,” she said simply.
“Let’s do it.” Without another word, the two of them raised their grimoires in unison.
Magic circles formed beneath their feet, and with a flourish, their books flew open.
As the pages of their grimoires flipped rapidly, a massive surge of mana flooded the arena.
The atmosphere grew heavier, the very air around us thickened with the power they were unleashing.
The ground trembled beneath our feet, as though the arena itself was reacting to their growing power.
Sander’s voice rang out, filled with unrelenting intensity.
“[Thunder Drive: Thunderburst]!” He shouted, and with that, a surge of thunderous energy enveloped his body.
The lightning coiled around him like a storm made flesh.
His form became one with the very essence of thunder, crackling with power.
It was as if he had become an embodiment of the storm itself, his strength magnified exponentially.
The sheer force of his mana practically sizzled in the air, making it difficult to even look directly at him without being blinded by the sheer intensity of the light.
At the same moment, Windy’s voice echoed through the arena, equally determined.
“[Wind Drive: Sky Dancer]!” Her body became surrounded by a whirlwind of air, but unlike the ordinary winds she had conjured before, these gusts were wild, ethereal, and infused with her mana.
Her movements became graceful yet deadly, like a dancer who commanded the sky itself.
The air around her shimmered, distorted by the sheer power of the winds she controlled.
Together, Sander and Windy now stood before us, their powers at a level beyond anything we had faced before.
Their abilities had reached new heights, and in that moment, it was clear that Termina and I were outmatched.
The sheer force of their magic made the air itself tremble, and their combined might was enough to crush anything in their path.
The realization struck me with full force-this was no longer a mere skirmish; this was the full-scale clash of titans.
But just as we braced ourselves, preparing for the inevitable clash, something unexpected occurred.
A sudden surge of Dark Magic erupted from the arena, completely enveloping everything in its path.
The once-vibrant surroundings were replaced by an overwhelming wave of shadows, and an eerie silence fell over the battlefield.
The temperature seemed to drop, and for a moment, time itself felt like it had come to a standstill.
The magic was thick and oppressive, and we all instinctively took a step back.
What was happening?
Then, the silence was broken by a voice-cold, furious, and full of malevolent power.
“[Dark Drive: Void Ascension]!” Nyssa’s voice rang out, sending a shiver down my spine.
The ground trembled as if the arena itself had been torn asunder by her dark magic.
In the blink of an eye, Julius, who had been pushing forward to engage Nyssa, was struck by the full force of her spell.
A surge of dark energy slammed into him, flinging him across the battlefield with terrifying speed.
He crashed violently into the wall of the arena, the impact leaving a massive crater where he had landed.
The sound of his body slamming into the stone echoed through the silence, and for a moment, no one moved.
Julius, who had been so confident just moments ago, lay motionless.
The once-vibrant energy of the battlefield had turned to dread, and the oppressive aura of Nyssa’s magic was enough to chill our very bones.
The realization hit me like a punch to the gut.
Nyssa’s Dark Magic was far stronger than we had anticipated.
With a single strike, she had incapacitated Julius, and we were left in stunned silence, unsure of what to do next.
The battle had taken a terrifying turn, and the overwhelming force of Nyssa’s magic left all of us in a state of stunned disbelief.
