- Reincarnated as a failed hero?! Watch me Defy Fate!
- Chapter 70 - Chapter 70 The Call to Protect
Chapter 70: The Call to Protect Chapter 70: The Call to Protect Xerion von Solara entered my recovery room, his long coat sweeping the floor, followed closely by Professor Lowen and Professor Aldin.
Their expressions were grave, their presence commanding.
It was clear they had come for answers.
“Naoki,” Xerion began, his voice calm but firm.
“We need a detailed account of what transpired during your battle against Norx and…
Instructor Morgan.” I nodded, taking a deep breath.
The memories were still vivid, and recounting them was like reopening a wound.
“It started when we faced off against Instructor Morgan.
He had already been corrupted, his form twisted by demonic influence.
But the real danger was Nyssa.
She transformed completely-becoming Norx, the Warlord of the Dreaming Void.” Their eyes widened as I continued.
“Norx manipulated Morgan and Nyssa to abduct students with high mana reserves.
The stolen mana was funneled into the Gehenna Gate, all part of a larger plan to weaken the seal on the Demon King.” The room fell silent.
Xerion’s hand clenched into a fist.
“A Demon Warlord infiltrating our kingdom…
That hasn’t happened in centuries.” Professor Aldin nodded, his face pale.
“The implications are dire.
If the seal on the Demon King is broken-” I cut in, my voice steady despite the weight of the situation.
“That’s not all.
The kidnappings at Solara Magic Academy and Braveheart Knight Academy are part of a coordinated effort.
The demons are using human cultists as pawns, hiding in plain sight within the Braveheart Kingdom and Grand Kingdom Solara.” Xerion’s expression darkened.
“I should have seen it.
But during your battle, I was preoccupied fighting five high demons.
Even so, failing to uncover demons among the academy staff…
That’s on me.” He sighed heavily before continuing.
“I will ensure a thorough purge across the kingdom.
This cannot be allowed to happen again.” His words brought some relief, but he wasn’t done.
“Arsene von Braveheart, head of Braveheart Knight Academy, has warned of similar threats.
Demon activity is spreading further into human territories.
To counter this, Arsene proposed a joint study group to strengthen the kingdoms’ defenses.

I suspect her academy is facing challenges like ours.
The evacuation was a precaution, but I trust Arsene will handle it.” Amelia, who had been silent until now, clenched her fists.
Worry was etched on her face.
“Arsene-onee-sama…” I placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
“Arsene is strong, Amelia.
We have to trust her.” Amelia looked up at me, determination replacing doubt.
“You’re right.
Arsene-onee-sama is twice as strong as I am.
She’ll manage.” Her confidence lifted the room’s atmosphere slightly, but it didn’t last long.
Xerion’s next words were like a dagger to my chest.
“Naoki,” he said carefully, “Nyssa must be arrested.
The Grand Kingdom Solara considers her the main perpetrator of today’s battle.” “No.” The word left my lips before I could think.
“Nyssa isn’t to blame.
The real culprits are the demons-especially Norx.
Morgan and Nyssa were victims, caught in the demons’ schemes.” I looked Xerion directly in the eyes.
“Instructor Morgan entrusted Nyssa to me before he died.
He sacrificed himself to protect her.
Arresting her would mean dishonoring his final wish.” Xerion’s expression softened slightly, but his tone remained firm.
“This isn’t a decision I can make alone.
The matter must be brought before Salvador von Solara, the Magic King.
Coincidentally, you’ve been invited to the royal palace tomorrow to receive a reward.
Perhaps you can plead your case there.” I nodded, my resolve unshaken.
“I’ll do whatever it takes to protect her.” Xerion gave a small nod.
“I admire your determination.” He turned to my companions.
“Your team deserves praise.
Lyra, Amelia, Freya-you all fought valiantly.” The three of them exchanged smiles, visibly proud.
I couldn’t help but add, “I couldn’t have done it without them.
They stood by me until the very end.” Their faces flushed at my words.
“Ahem…” Xerion cleared his throat, breaking the moment.
I quickly shifted my focus.
“Thank you, professors, for protecting the students.
And Sander and Windy-they played a vital role in our victory.” Xerion smiled faintly.
“You’re shaping up to be a fine hero, Naoki.
Braveheart Kingdom is lucky to have you.” With that, Xerion and Professor Lowen excused themselves, citing urgent matters regarding the academy’s purge.
Professor Aldin lingered.
He hesitated before speaking, his voice heavy with emotion.
“Morgan…
I regret what he did.
But I understand why.
He was a father trying to protect his daughter.” I nodded.
“He passed away with a smile, knowing Nyssa was safe.
He found peace in the end.” Aldin’s shoulders relaxed.
“Thank you, Naoki.
I’ll do my part to help.
Bring Nyssa to Braveheart Kingdom.
I’ll ensure she’s cared for.” I met his gaze and promised, “I won’t let her down.
When I meet the Magic King, I’ll do everything I can to keep her safe.” Aldin’s expression brightened, his faith in me evident.
As the room quieted, I found myself reflecting again.
This battle was far from over, but I wasn’t alone.
With allies like Lyra, Amelia, Freya, and the professors, I felt ready to face whatever came next.
And when the time came to stand before the Magic King, I would fight-not with swords or spells, but with conviction and truth.
…
I spent the evening in the infirmary, my body still recovering from the intense battle.
I wanted to leave immediately, eager to check on others, but Lyra, Freya, and Amelia insisted I stay until tomorrow.
“You’re not going anywhere, Naoki-sama,” Lyra said firmly, her tone leaving no room for argument.
“Your wounds are still wrapped in bandages,” Amelia added, crossing her arms.
“Especially the one on your stomach.
You stabbed yourself to stop your rampage-you need rest.” Freya nodded with a worried look.
“Don’t push yourself too hard, okay?
You’ve already done enough.” Despite my protests, I gave in.
Their concern felt genuine, and I didn’t want to cause them unnecessary stress.
“Fine.
I’ll stay,” I said with a small smile.
When visiting hours ended, they reluctantly left, each casting one last glance over their shoulders to ensure I wouldn’t sneak out.
Now alone in the room, I couldn’t help but reflect on the day’s events.
The room was quiet, a stark contrast to the chaos of the battle earlier.
I stared at the ceiling, my mind drifting.
I felt a sense of relief and joy.
I had managed to protect Milly, my little sister, and the other students of the academy.
My friends were safe, and Lyra, Freya, and Amelia-three of the most important people in my life-were by my side.
“Is it okay for me to enjoy this life here?” I wondered aloud.
“Could I truly find peace in this world?” But I quickly shook the thought away.
My family on Earth still needed me.
I didn’t know when disaster might strike them.
Thankfully, the Goddess of Benevolence had granted me a chance to protect them through the main quest.
I opened my interface and reviewed the quest once more: Save Takahiro Nana, my older sister, who was destined to die from severe depression.
To complete this, I needed to graduate from Braveheart Knight Academy and pass the hero’s exam.
“It’s a long road,” I muttered, clenching my fist.
“But I’ll make it.” I raised my right hand toward the ceiling, silently reaffirming my resolve.
I wouldn’t rest until my family was safe.
As the thought of my family filled my mind, a wave of longing washed over me.
I missed them-Mom, Nana, and Naki.
Tears began to well up in my eyes.
Suddenly, a sharp ding echoed in my ears, and a notification window appeared in front of me.
— [EMERGENCY ALERT!!!] Takahiro Nana is in critical danger!
Error!
The “Give Protect” feature cannot be used in this situation.
Go and protect Nana immediately!
If you ignore this, her death will be accelerated!
— “What?!” My voice trembled as I stared at the screen.
Panic surged through me, and I instinctively called out to Envi, my system companion.
“What’s going on, Envi?!” I shouted.
Envi’s voice came through, uncharacteristically tense.
“This is bad, Nao.
I don’t know for sure, but Nana’s fate changed.
Now Nana’s in serious trouble-we need to act now!” “I won’t let anything happen to her!” I declared.
Without hesitation, I accessed the [Trade Goddess Points] feature and selected the option to visit Earth.
[You have used 50 Goddess Points!] You will be transported to Earth temporarily.
A glowing magic circle appeared beneath me, and light began to envelop my body.
I felt myself breaking apart into tiny particles of light, each piece drawn into the circle as the spell activated.
“Wait for me, Nana Onee-chan,” I whispered as the room blurred around me.
“I’ll protect you!” The next thing I knew, I was flying through the magical corridor, a bright and otherworldly pathway leading me back to Earth.
My mind was racing with a single thought-saving Nana.
I clenched my fists and gritted my teeth.
No matter what awaited me on the other side, I was ready to face it.
“Hang on, Nana onee-chan.
I’m coming.” As the spell neared its conclusion, my resolve burned brighter than ever.
The mission to save my sister wasn’t just a quest-it was a promise.
A promise to protect the family I loved, no matter the cost.
