- Reincarnated as a failed hero?! Watch me Defy Fate!
- Chapter 81 - Chapter 81 A Bond Beyond Blood
Chapter 81: A Bond Beyond Blood Chapter 81: A Bond Beyond Blood After finishing our training, I escorted Julius and Marius to their respective rooms.
They looked utterly exhausted, having overused their aura today.
Patriarch’s training was nothing short of brutal.
I intended to head to my own room, but the thought of learning more about Aura Force lingered in my mind.
If I could master it, I was sure I’d grow even stronger.
Sneaking down to the training ground on the lower floor, I tiptoed through the halls.
But as I reached the third floor and passed through the central open garden, a voice called out to me.
“Where do you think you’re going this late at night, Naoki?
You never change, do you?” It was Lilia, sipping tea in the middle of the garden, wide awake as usual.
“Uh, well, you’re one to talk, Lilia.
Still indulging in your midnight tea sessions, huh?
Looks like we both have our quirks,” I said, hoping to find an excuse to slip away quickly.
“Ugh, honestly.
I thought you’d grown more mature, but you’re just the same.
Let me guess-you’re sneaking off to train again, aren’t you?” Lilia hit the nail on the head.
“H-how did you know?!” I stammered, caught off guard.
“It’s obvious.
Patriarch used to do the same thing.
Honestly, you two are so alike in some ways…” She sighed.
“Don’t lump me in with him!
But yeah, you’re right-I’m just going to train a bit.
It won’t take long,” I tried to reassure her.
“Well, it’s not like I can stop you.
Even if I did, you’d go anyway,” she replied, sounding resigned.
“You are the heir to this family and a future hero, but don’t push yourself too hard…” Lilia’s voice softened with a trace of concern.
“I’ll be fine,” I replied with a faint smile.
Her unexpected worry caught me off guard.
Maybe I’d misjudged her all along-perhaps she was genuinely kindhearted.
With that, I made my way downstairs to the training ground.
I began my routine by relaxing my body, adopting a yoga-like pose to center myself.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
Drawing on my aura, I tried activating the Aura Force technique Patriarch had taught me.
At first, the aura enveloped me, enhancing my strength-but it quickly spiraled out of control, dissipating into chaos.
I repeated the process over and over but could only manage the most basic level.
Frustration mounted as I pushed myself, hoping to match even a fraction of Patriarch’s mastery.
But deep down, I knew it was futile.
I wasn’t a genius when it came to swordsmanship.
My skills relied entirely on the [Power of Incarnation] bestowed upon me.
“I have to hone Aura Force on my own… without depending on Envi,” I thought to myself.
“Hahaha!
Finally realizing you rely too much on the system and the power gifted by the Goddess of Benevolence?
You’d better start treating me with more respect!
HAHAHA!” Envi’s voice echoed smugly in my mind.
“Shut up, you cursed system.
The last thing I want is to inherit your perverted tendencies!” “Hey, Naoki, you jerk!
Just you wait-I’ll make sure you end up building a harem!
Lyra, Amelia, Freya, Serena… oh, and let’s not forget Aisha!” “Over my dead body!
Now quit distracting me!” I barked back internally, refocusing on my training while ignoring Envi’s nonsensical ramblings.
…
Two hours passed, and I had yet to make any real progress.
Frustration weighed heavily on me until a voice from behind broke the silence.
“Looks like you’re struggling.” I turned to see Patriarch standing there, wide awake despite the late hour.
“Ugh… I couldn’t sleep, so I thought I’d try improving my Aura Force,” I admitted, embarrassed at being caught.
“It’s fine.
Keep at it.
I used to train until midnight every day to get to where I am now,” Patriarch said, taking a seat beside me.
“What’s with this sudden fatherly act?
Normally, you’re terrifying, even to your own son,” I blurted out, curious about his change in demeanor.
“Would you prefer the terrifying version of me, huh?!” Patriarch’s aura flared, sending shivers down my spine.
“Haha, just kidding…” “Listen, Naoki.
It’s true you need to become stronger to protect this family and Braveheart Kingdom, but don’t push yourself too hard.” His tone turned serious.
“I’m not overexerting myself.
I’ve resolved to get stronger as quickly as possible.
I have my reasons,” I said, thinking of my ultimate goal-to defeat the Demon King and safeguard both this world and my family back on Earth.
“Is that so?
Very well.
Let me give you some advanced tips about Aura Force.
Pay close attention,” Patriarch offered, surprising me with his willingness to teach.
According to Patriarch, Aura Force had four levels: Basic, Intermediate, Master, and Supreme.
At the Master level, one could unleash aura slashes capable of cutting through anything-even magic itself.
He explained that he had reached the Supreme level, enabling him to counter magic effortlessly.
This mastery was what allowed him to defeat demons and dark magic users alike.
To reach the Intermediate level, I needed to control the flow of my aura throughout my body’s entire aura circuit.
It was something I struggled with, as I usually just released my aura in a haphazard manner.
For the Master level, I would need to maintain this aura flow consistently for an entire day.
This constant effort would strengthen my body over time.
At that stage, I’d be able to multiply my physical attack power several times over, strong enough to shatter massive boulders with a single strike.
Finally, at the Supreme level, our battle aura would transform into a lethal weapon capable of destroying, slicing, and piercing through anything-even the dreaded Doomspire Demons.
However, only a handful of individuals had ever reached this level.
As of now, those known to have achieved it were Patriarch, the King of Braveheart, and a few powerful individuals from the Mercenary Kingdom of Gildoria.
Patriarch shared all of this with me and explained his efforts to train Julius and Marius as well, hoping to increase the number of high-level Aura Force users in Braveheart Kingdom.
“Naoki, show me your back.
I’ll help you control the aura within your body.
This will speed up your progress to the Intermediate level.” Patriarch’s tone was serious as he prepared to place his hand on my back.
“O-okay,” I replied, turning around as instructed.
Patriarch began channeling his aura into me, and the sensation was excruciating-it felt like being electrocuted.
I couldn’t hold back my screams.
His aura was cold and piercing, but slowly, I managed to adapt, converting it into my own.
Bit by bit, I gained better control over the flow of aura within my circuits.
Soon, I could summon my battle aura more easily.
“Good.
Keep training like this, and you’ll reach the Intermediate level soon,” Patriarch said with a satisfied nod.
“Th-thank you.
I’ll definitely reach the Supreme level of Aura Force!” I declared with firm resolve.
“I’ll be waiting for that day.
Once you officially become the kingdom’s hero, I’ll retire.
But considering the current situation, I might still be needed in battle.” Patriarch’s expression darkened slightly.
“Just how bad is the war right now?” I asked, curious and worried.
“In addition to fighting demons on the eastern border, we’re also at war with the Kingdom of Gildoria to the north.” “We’re fighting Gildoria too?!
This is the first I’ve heard of it!” I exclaimed in shock.
I hadn’t realized two wars were happening simultaneously.
“It just started a few days ago.
The Mercenary Kingdom of Gildoria decided to invade Braveheart, seeing us preoccupied with the demons.
For now, the King has kept the news from the public since the situation is still manageable.
But if things worsen, it could turn into an all-out war.” “This is… bad,” I muttered, stunned.
Even Envi in my mind was unusually silent, seemingly taken aback by the looming threat of war with Gildoria.
“What about Serena?
Do you know how she’s doing?” I blurted out, suddenly worried about her.
“Huh?
Why ask about her all of a sudden?
She’s fine.
She’s stationed on the eastern front, fighting demons.
Meanwhile, the other two heroes are up north defending against Gildoria.” Patriarch’s explanation was straightforward.
“Serena’s swordsmanship and magic are impressive.
She’s untouchable,” he added with a rare note of admiration.
“Yeah, she’ll be fine.
She’s incredible,” I said, smiling faintly.
“What’s this?
Do you have feelings for her?
I wouldn’t object, you know,” Patriarch teased, clearly indifferent.
“N-no!
That’s not it… Ah, forget it!” I stammered, flustered.
Gathering my courage, I proclaimed, “I promise I’ll graduate from the academy and pass the hero trials.
When that time comes, I’ll join the battlefield and fight alongside you, Patriarch.
So please, hold on until then.” I looked him in the eye, my determination unwavering.
Suddenly, Patriarch smacked me on the head, leaving a noticeable bump.
Thud!
“Ouch!
What was that for?!” I cried out.
“Hahaha!
You really know how to make this old man laugh.
Do you think I’d lose to demons or some barbaric mercenaries?!” Patriarch grinned, his pride as the strongest in the family shining through.
“Of course not!
I’m sure you could defeat even the Demon Warlords and Overlords if they surrounded you, haha.
You’re unbelievably strong!” I exclaimed with enthusiasm.
“Good answer.
Yes, I’ll win.
Age is just a number, after all.
Now, I’ll prepare to return to the battlefield in the morning.
You should get some rest, Naoki.
By the time you wake up, I’ll be gone.
Train your friends and grow strong together-they’ll be your greatest strength in the future,” Patriarch said as he stood up.
“Yes, Father-I mean, Patriarch.
Thank you so much!” I called out as he began walking away.
I thought I saw a small smile on his face as he turned his back.
Was he pleased?
This was the first time I’d spoken so much with him.
Maybe, just maybe, we were finally building a real father-son bond.
I tried asking Envi about Patriarch’s behavior, but even he stayed silent, as if equally puzzled.
Watching Patriarch’s figure fade into the distance, I couldn’t help but notice how his back seemed smaller than before.
Was I getting taller?
Shaking off the thought, I hurried back to my room to rest.
A foreboding sense of the ongoing wars lingered in my mind, but there was nothing I could do yet.
I had to focus on graduating from the academy and becoming a hero!
