- Reincarnated as a failed hero?! Watch me Defy Fate!
- Chapter 88 - Chapter 88 Training by Day, Celebration by Night
Chapter 88: Training by Day, Celebration by Night Chapter 88: Training by Day, Celebration by Night It’s been seventeen days since I arrived in the Blackmore region.
I came here for a vacation, but somehow, I ended up diving into dungeons and getting myself injured.
By now, I’ve grown used to getting hurt and spending days recovering.
But this time, it’s different.
I find myself sandwiched between Julius and Marius on a single bed.
We’re all holed up in the same room because, unsurprisingly, our injuries were the worst among the team.
I used to have this room to myself, but now I’m stuck with my battle comrades.
Strangely, I didn’t think it was so bad at first.
That is, until Marius started snoring.
Loudly.
He sounded like a duck locked in some sort of life-or-death struggle.
Then Julius started mumbling in his sleep, letting out incoherent battle cries.
Was he dreaming about fighting monsters?
And then it happened.
A third snore echoed in the room, louder and uglier than anything I’d ever heard.
It sounded like…
a massive fart?
I scanned the room, looking for the source of this dreadful noise.
It wasn’t Marius.
It wasn’t Julius.
And then I realized.
The horrible snoring was coming from Envi.
“YOU STUPID SYSTEM!
STOP SNORING IN MY HEAD!” I screamed internally, fuming with frustration.
But Envi, of course, didn’t respond.
He just kept on “sleeping,” as if it was the most natural thing in the world.
So much for getting some peace and quiet while I recover.
Instead, I’m stuck here with these two idiots and an infuriating system.
None of them will let me sleep tonight.
I take it back-this situation isn’t “not too bad.” It’s downright awful.

I want out of this room as soon as possible.
…
The next morning, the three of us were finally discharged and allowed to return to our own rooms.
Sleep-deprived and desperate for rest, I rushed back to my beloved bed and flopped onto it.
“Ahh, finally…
I can sleep in peace,” I murmured, closing my eyes and savoring the silence.
Or so I thought.
“Hey, Nao!
Why are you napping in the morning?
You lazy bum!” Envi’s voice suddenly rang out in my head, jolting me awake.
I glared at the air and snapped, “And whose fault do you think it is that I couldn’t sleep all night?!
Your stupid snoring kept echoing in my head!” “HUH?
I didn’t even notice!
HAHAHA!
Anyway, forget that.
Let’s get back to business.
You leveled up six times, right?
And didn’t you get a rare item too?” Envi said, conveniently brushing off my complaints.
Well, he wasn’t wrong.
“You’re right.
Let’s see…
I’ll invest in STR and AGI for now, and maybe a bit in VIT to help me handle Aura Force better.” I opened my status window and began allocating my points: — Name: Naoki von Blackmore Level: 60 Title: Hero Candidate of the Blackmore Family Trait: Shadow Conquers, Demon Slayer.

Goddess Points: 145 — To my surprise, my Swordsmanship skill had leveled up, and so had Resonance.
I also unlocked two new skills: [Dark Aura Katana] and [Judgement].
With a grin, I spent my status points: +10 STR, +15 AGI, and +5 VIT.
Finally, I equipped the rare drop from the Garmr fight, [The Bonehowl Ring], which gave a 10% boost to both STR and INT.
| | V Name: Naoki von Blackmore Level: 60 Title: Hero Candidate of the Blackmore Family Trait: Shadow Conquers, Demon Slayer.
Condition: Normal HP (Hit Points): 4,500 MP (Mana Points): 8,800 Strength (STR): 110 (+10%) Vitality (VIT): 45 Agility (AGL): 100 Intelligence (INT): 55 (+25 from Grimoire, +10% from Bonehowl Ring) Status Points that can be used: 0 — I updated my stats.
“Wow, this is amazing, Envi!
I haven’t even used Kagegiri yet, and my stats have already gone up a lot.
Maybe I should start hunting for rare items to strengthen myself even more,” I said excitedly to Envi.
“That’s true, Nao, but remember: rare items only make you stronger temporarily.
If they break, you’ll lose that strength.
Focus on building your own power instead.
Rare items are just bonuses you’ll naturally get when defeating strong enemies,” Envi replied with an unusually thoughtful tone.
For once, he gave me advice that made sense.
Usually, he just gave vague instructions or found ways to annoy me.
“Yeah, you’re right…” I muttered, glancing at my inventory.
“I also got this [The Fire Flower Pendant].
It gives a 30% boost to fire magic damage and comes with a passive skill: Fire Blast.
The effect’s great, but… it’s not really something I can use.
And honestly, wearing a pendant like this feels more suited for a girl.” I sighed, thinking about how to make use of the pendant.
“How about giving it to Freya?” Envi suggested, his tone taking on an all-too-familiar mischievous edge.
“She uses fire magic, right?
I bet she’d love it!
You could even ask her out on a date when you give it to her.
And if you don’t want to, I’ll take her on a date instead!
HAHAHA!” “Shut up,” I groaned, rolling my eyes.
But he had a point.
Freya would probably find the pendant incredibly useful.
I decided right then and there: the next time I saw Freya, I’d give it to her.
Maybe it would make her happy…
and maybe, just maybe, it’d give me an excuse to talk to her more.
…
The afternoon had arrived.
Marius, Julius, and I were working hard to regain our fitness after recovering from our battle wounds.
Mark eventually joined us on the training ground as well.
Meanwhile, Vivin, Mia, and Nyssa watched from the sidelines, cheering us on with enthusiasm.
Elan, on the other hand, observed silently, eventually striking up a conversation with Lilia.
I had no idea what they were talking about, but Lilia’s faint smile caught my attention.
I refocused on my training.
Mark approached me, asking for guidance.
I reminded him not to overuse Dark Magic, as it could cause him to lose his sanity.
“Make sure Nyssa knows that too,” I added.
He nodded in agreement, and we resumed training in swordsmanship.
I demonstrated the Dark Aura Blade technique, but Mark struggled to grasp it.
“Keep practicing every day, and you’ll get it eventually,” I encouraged him.
For some reason, this whole interaction made me feel like an older brother in this world.
It was bittersweet, reminding me of my life as the youngest sibling back on Earth.
I wondered how Mom, Nana, and Naki were doing.
Were they eating dinner together?
“Ahh, I’d love to have a meal with them again…” I murmured to myself, gazing at the beautiful evening sky.
The serene moment almost made me lose myself in thought.
But the peace didn’t last.
BAM!
The door flew open, kicked forcefully.
“What’s with this cold reception?
None of you are even here to welcome Milly, the rich and fabulous lady, back?
All you ever do is train!” It was Milly, barging in dramatically with a massive sack slung over her back.
Behind her, Aisha struggled to help carry the load, visibly straining under its weight.
I suddenly remembered-I’d sent Milly to exchange the Magic Stone we’d obtained from defeating Garmr at the Braveheart Kingdom.
She’d been gone for three days and had just returned.
“Well, well, my sweet little sister is finally back.
And what’s with calling yourself a ‘rich lady,’ you tsundere?” I teased her.
“Don’t call me that!
I told you, I’m Milly the Rich Lady!” she retorted, dropping the enormous sack onto the ground with a thud.
The bag hit the floor, spilling a dazzling pile of gold coins.
“Milly… is this the money from trading the Magic Stone with the Braveheart Kingdom?!” I exclaimed, stunned.
“That’s right!
The kingdom gave us 100,000 gold!
HAHAHA, bow down and thank me!” Milly declared proudly.
The amount was so absurd that Mark, Julius, Marius, and I were rendered speechless.
Meanwhile, Vivin, Mia, and Nyssa rushed over to Milly, showering her with praise and admiration.
I strode up to Milly and flicked her forehead, eliciting a small yelp of pain.
“And why are you acting so full of yourself, huh?
This money came from us risking our lives against that cursed three-headed dog dungeon boss!” I said, ruffling her hair playfully.
“That’s true, Milly,” Aisha chimed in.
“Naoki-senpai, Julius-senpai, and Marius-senpai were injured pretty badly… They’re the ones who should be proud.” “Even you, Aisha, are siding with him?!
This isn’t fair!
I wanted to join the dungeon raid too, but this big bro Naoki-the-idiot didn’t let me!” Milly whined, crossing her arms.
“Alright, alright,” I said, trying to calm her down.
“I didn’t let you come because I wanted to keep you safe.
That dungeon was incredibly dangerous-you could’ve gotten lost or worse.
How about I make you something delicious to eat instead?” “Huh?
big bro Naoki cooking?
Hahaha, that’s the funniest joke of the year!
But fine, I’ll give it a try.
I am getting a little hungry,” Milly said, her tsundere side showing as usual.
“I’m not just cooking for you.
I’m cooking for everyone who played a part in conquering that dungeon.
Besides, I already promised the team we’d celebrate our victory,” I replied, glancing at Marius, Julius, Mark, Nyssa, Vivin, Elan, and Mia.
Hearing this, everyone lit up with excitement.
Marius even jumped up, cheering.
“Alright, let’s get to work!
Vivin, Mia, Elan, help me with the preparations.
Nyssa, Mark, I need you to buy some ingredients.
Julius and Marius… you can wait in the dining hall with Milly and Aisha,” I instructed.
“Yes, Master Naoki!” Vivin, Mia, and Elan responded eagerly.
“E-eh?
Me and Nyssa, shopping?” Mark stammered, looking flustered.
“What’s the matter?
Don’t want to go shopping?
I know we’re nobles, but it’s good for you to spend time among the common folk, Mark,” I said, half-teasing.
“N-no, that’s not it!
I’ll do it gladly!” Mark said, his voice tinged with nervous enthusiasm.
I noticed Nyssa’s face turning red at his response.
I smirked to myself.
It was obvious they liked each other.
Giving them a bit of time alone together wasn’t a bad idea.
“Heh, you’re not bad at playing cupid,” Envi chuckled in my head.
“Looks like that kid Mark is finally starting to act like a man.” Eventually, we all got to work preparing for the feast.
As the preparations were underway, I noticed someone watching us from afar.
Walking over, I found Lilia standing quietly.
“We’re having a celebration feast,” I said.
“You’re welcome to join us, Lilia.” I wasn’t sure why I invited her.
Maybe it was because she looked lonely.
Even though she was my stepmother, I’d never sensed any malice from her.
It felt like it was time to open up, even just a little.
Lilia looked at me, then nodded with a soft smile.
Tonight, the atmosphere in the mansion felt lighter somehow.
For the first time in a while, I felt like things were moving in the right direction.
I was sure the Patriarch would be happy to see this when he returned.
