Chapter 105: Morphotypes tutorial
<Understood, user. Activating morphotypes tutorial script.>
When the system spoke again, instead of the genderless robotic voice, it suddenly became a pleasant female robotic voice.
The way it spoke immediately brought me vague flashbacks…
<Welcome to the morphotype feature tutorial! This tutorial will teach you how to use morphotypes feature to genetically specialize your offspring. First, look at yourself to open your status panel.>
‘Seriously? It’s going to walk me through an entire tutorial like that? I just asked a question! Not that I’m not glad, but… System, where those tutorials were before, huh?’
It didn’t reply, of course.
I opened my status.

Empty Morphotype
〔〕〔〕〔〕
The new ‘Morphotype’ button at the end was glowing bright yellow, impossible to miss.
<This panel in your status will show the list of your morphotypes. The amount of morphotypes you can have is limited. Raise your development level and earn achievements to unlock more morphotype slots,> the pleasant tutorial voice said. <Now, press the ‘Empty Morphotype’ button to create your first morphotype.>
The yellow glow moved to the button. Feeling like a powerless slave to the tutorial, I pressed it.
‘System, if your tutorial will force me to make a fixed morphotype in my *only* available morphotype slot, I will kill you. I don’t know how, but I will! Researchina will help me invent something!’
With the corner of my eye, I saw the Empire Council watching me with great interest. Tabletina and Researchina started whispering something to each other.
A new window opened in front of me.
〔A New Morphotype〕
〔Gene points:〕 28/28
Below this was a list of my genes, except for the genes that enhanced my base attributes and lifespan. Next to each gene were 〔-〕 and 〔+〕 buttons, except for genes without tiers, which only had 〔-〕.
They couldn’t be upgraded, I realized. But the rest…
<This is a morphotype creation window. As you can see, currently all the gene points are spent on your existing genes. Now, press this button to remove a gene and free a gene point.>
A new button glowed in yellow, suggesting that I remove “Throwing Wrists”.
However, I had different ideas.
By now, I realized how this thing worked without further baby-talk explanations. I could remove some genes to add tiers to others. For example, remove 4 tiers of “Fast Learning” to turn “Faster Regeneration II” into “Faster Regeneration VI”.
This was an ultimate min-maxing tool! Too bad that attribute-enhancing genes weren’t on the list, but this was pretty OP already.
I immediately had ideas about what should be my first morphotype.
‘Perhaps Queens that can be even more fertile? No, I might as well just have more daughter Queens. Since most of my existing genes help in combat, I should make an elite warrior bee morphotype.’
In this stage of the Bee Empire’s development, we had a large enough industry to support a good military—and we were also bound to see bigger threats than before. From the hornet nests that were just asking to be burned, to flying and wandering beasts… And who knew what else?
We had a strong military force already, but there was never military that was *too* good! And even better than a good military was a good military that you had *earlier* than everybody around.
Thus, I immediately tried to remove the ‘Technology: Scientific Method’ gene as the one my future warriors definitely didn’t need. However, the button did nothing.
The other button still glowed yellow…
‘System, you are dead. Just know it.’
Scowling, I pressed the yellow button. The amount of free gene points increased by 1.
<Press this button to increase the tier of another gene.>
It was ‘Increased Fertility’, because *of course* it was.
<Now, press here to rename your morphotype.>
Instead of ‘A New Morphotype’ I typed ‘Screw You Tutorial’.
<To save a morphotype, press the 〔save〕 button. Be careful, user—you can only edit morphotypes when you get new genes worth gene points.>
I reached for the button and paused.
It wasn’t glowing.
The buttons weren’t glowing anymore!
For the experiment, I pressed some 〔+〕 and 〔-〕 buttons—they all worked!
<To give your offspring a morphotype, approach offspring and press the button on your status panel to release morphotyping pheromones. The morphotyping pheromones work only on offspring that didn’t yet reach the pupa stage of their development, and only on offspring whose amount of total gene points is the same as yours.>
I was barely listening. The information meant more problems with morphotyping, of course…
<This ends the morphotype tutorial. Good luck, user.>
The female voice switched to the normal one.
<Tutorial script over.>
I let out a long sigh and turned to my Advisers. My eyes met Bloodhero’s.
“Bloodhero, my girl! I suddenly realized that we need an elite fighting force. I don’t think we can have many people in it, but they will be better than even Commandos! Commandos are more about stealth, anyway…”
“Father, if you had some brilliant idea, please explain it from the beginning,” Researchina said.
“Yes, of course we need better fighters, Father! What do I have to do? Train them harder?”
I shook my head.
“No, just help me pick the best fighting genes! Look, these fighters can have super thick skin—surely this will help? Do you need carrying capacity, though? I feel like putting all the points I can into regeneration!”
